So I just picked up a pretty old Radeon HD4740 (2GB) which my friend tossed into recycling because he just upgraded his rig.

The Thing is it's 3x better in performance than my 12yo laptop rocking Nvidia 9300m GS (256MB).

I'm using this laptop as a desktop, I mean like a desktop, connected to pretty old 1080p 60hz monitor because my laptop monitor couldn't hold up it's age and gave up showing.

Now, what I thought I could do is since this laptop have 2 mini PCIes (one occupied by craptastic 2.4ghz Wi-Fi module) I thought I could use following product.

Mini PCI-E PCIe to 2 PCI Slot Riser Card Adapter with USB 3.0 cable

The thing is, will it work? HD7470 does not have a dedicated power, it is powered over PCIe.

As you could tell from my story I can't afford new rig or just buy and try a potential paper weight.

Here's some homework;

And here's a very knowledgeable resource;

I actually looked into this type of setup momentarily before I built my pc. In short, sometimes it's plug and play and sometimes there's a 0% chance of success.

Yeah.  You need to buy a PSU (however cheap is up to you) and the adapter.
