If its a cheap router, and it has a more than a SPI firewall, the routers CPU is not fast enough for your connection.  This is assuming you are not running into WiFi link speed problems.

Expensive (~$1000) routers/firewalls from 5-7 years ago had problems keeping up with gig connections because the AV/advanced firewalls on them were hammering the routers CPU too hard.

Didnt make much of diff sadly.. Can it realy be my router that it is not powerfull enough? that thing was not cheap

Routers are sold as consumer goods.  It seems that the more goofy "ease of use" things that get tacked on the higher the price.

I use a WRT1200 AC which was ~$150 new.  It would be the bare minimum level of router I would recommend for gig network speeds.  And only after you install DD-WRT or Linux on it at that.

I hesitate to suggest the WRT 1200 AC or 1900 AC to a networking newbie.  There have been tons of problems with the stock firmware.  Even on many of the Linux/DD-WRT builds do not work properly on them.

The Netgear Nighthawk IS reliable though.  I installed one of the OG models in a commercial setting a number of years back, and it still works perfectly to this day.
