I hesitate to suggest the WRT 1200 AC or 1900 Ac to a networking newbie.  There have been tons of problems with the stock firmware.  Even on many of the Linux/DD-WRT builds do not work properly on them.

The Netgear Nighthawk IS reliable though.  I installed one of the OG models in a commercial setting a number of years back, and it still works perfectly to this day.

Yeh i might look into the Nighthawk, also looking at the asus

Just make sure to check reviews out for whichever one you are going to get.

Browsing around support forums for the device is also a good idea, see what problems people have with it.
