K30 or K70?

Go to solution Solved by renz62,

I don't like the Blackwidow...

There is really no keyboard that fits my needs. :(

Only if Corsair made a K75 with added macros...

I'll just get the K30, and if it breaks, i will go mechanical.

ok dude :)

The backlight would definately go well with the lights of your M40 mouse :D

K30 is €48 and the K70 is €126 so the K30 is more of a value option.

I like to use macros and backlight :D

So, or cheap and mushy, or clicky and expensive...

EDIT: K70 /w MX Blues version for the K70.

EDIT: I'm asking this for my birthday and some other stuff and i don't want to make it too expensive.

Try to find a store with keyboards on display with many different key types and see if it's worth it to you.

I personally wasn't that amazed by the in store ones, but it made my decision and i don't regret it. There's a big difference in trying them out and actually using it at home. It's amazing. :D

who cares...

k70. I have the mx blue version. Nothing but good things to say. If you can wait for the rgb version it will be awesome.

I tried the Razer Blackwidow 2013 and it felt good, but like the K70, it's so expensive and i'm asking a KB [And other stuff] for my birthday, and i don't want to make it too expensive.

You should rather ask your parents then.  :D The K70 alone is a pretty good present imo.

What switch type do you favour? I guess the Blackwidow had blue switches? tbh idk what switch types the K70 comes with but that's not the question. :D

I couldn't try browns before but i bought my KB /w brown switches but it's awesome. I tried the blackwidow just like you did, and saw, that i didn't like blues, so i got browns xD

Another thing to note, when i look back at my purchase, is the actuation point of cherry MX switches. I am not used to it, being in the middle. Plus i like to bottom out the keys, so i get more typos because i sometimes mash another key halfway through, and that actually actuates it already. It takes a little bit to get used to, because most normal keyboards actuacte at the bottom.

who cares...

I guess that i get the K30 then, i am used to bottoming out the keys and it's cheaper. Alot cheaper.

but then again, a mechanical keyboard will last longer than your membrane keyboard and will feel really great.. heck, I might even think that it could last longer than my life (except the LED's though) :P

How long do you think the K30 will last? And i don't want my LEDs to die though.

EDIT: And i really want those macros, but not the K95, that are too much macros.

It's hard to say. It really depends on other factors aswell. My previous keyboard, i got for christmas 2005 i believe, which was backlight (absolute monster feature at that time) had membrane. The writing on the keys wore out. The spacebar pressed unevenly. the whole thing just felt very cheap after 5 years of use. :D

I would not be too worried about it being mushy, but to just wear out faster than a mech KB.

My issue with bottoming out and having typos also comes from the fact that i had previously typed on a laptop with very flat keys, and a mech KB ist pretty much the opposite. :D

who cares...

Yes, mech keyboards are nice, clicky and more reliable, but it's triple the price.

My membrane keyboard (Razer Lycosa Mirror, which I don't recommend buying) wore out in just 3 years.. Some keys are now light to press and some are now too hard. I cleaned it already but it's really the rubber dome's fault, not the dirt stuck beneath. If you want a keyboard with just the right amount of macro keys, there are a lot of options out there that are the same or better than Corsair's.

I'm not going to recommend any because I rarely need macros so I got my eyes set for a K70 MX brown switch for my upgrade. You can make a new topic about it and try to describe what you want in a keyboard, preferably a mechanical one because mechanical keyboard owners always say that "Once you go mechanical, you'll never wanna go back to membrane keyboards" and I guess it just says that mechanical keyboards are a VERY great investment to your PC in terms of performance, quality and longevity :)

Is the Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 a good keyboard?

If not, i'll be getting the K70 then.

Or of course the K30, i don't really care about the switches, but i want something reliable and that is a downside of membrane.

My friend has it and honestly, it performs a whole ton better than any membrane keyboard. It's great and comes with the MX Blue switch.

The only downside is that for its price, it's kinda too much. The amount you pay for doesn't sum up to all the feature that you will get. But if you really love it, and suits your amount of macro keys needed, then go for it.

Razer may have longevity issues with their other products but I think with this product, it will last a lifetime :)

  • 11 months later...

I know this thread is a year old, but I am also considering a K30 or a K70. As you said the price of the K70 is three times the price of the K30, but it is mechanical vs membrane... Anyway, just wanted to ask what you ended up getting and if you're happy with your decision?

i was looking into buying the K70 RGB until i heard Corsair discontinued RGB K70s with blue RGB switches. i found the CM Storm Mech. its an "aluminium body" keyboard with full ISO layout. it includes 5 macros so if you want macros thats a plus. i comes with a variety of cherry MX falvors (all but green clear and black). the aluminium cover can be screwed off with an alan key for easy cleaning. thats all i have to say really...

EDIT: oh also it has a white backlighting, 2 USB 3.0 ports and headphone and microphone passthrough :D
