I see no downsides in using the most recent OS you can. Expect backwards compatibility, but if something doesn't run, there's a new app that probably does the job even better now.

That is  just what I was thinking I have gotten feedback that Windows 7 has less bloat than 10 But my usual response is that if you have a powerful enough computer it will be fine.

Games built on DX12 won't launch on Win 7 machine.

I personally would go with Win 10, if anything, I've seen performance boost in games.

Newer Intel / AMD hardware does not have support in Windows 7, so you'd want/need Windows 10 for those anyways.

Some games are faster in Windows 7 and some are faster in Windows 10. Overall, if you exclude DirectX 12 performance (though some games are faster in DX12 more while others are slower in DX12 mode), then neither OS has a particular advantage in terms of gaming performance.

 

Outside of gaming performance, here's a list of pros and cons that I've experienced with each.
