it isn't. if you really want to go higher and have some more to spend, you could get a treadripper tho...

Hi, my name's Alex, I am a studying game design and development, and I would like to buy a PC to be used both as a workstation as well as for gaming.

1. Budget & Location

My budget is 1500-2000 pounds (I am living in UK). - I am willing to go up with a few hundreds but I prefer not to, since it will delay the buying time.

2. Aim

Since I am studying game design and development I will use this PC for softwares ranging from Maya, Zbrush, Substance Painter to Visual Studio, Unity and Unreal Engine. I would also like to be able to play some of the latest games at mid-high specs (not necessarily the highest - keep in mind I am a student so it's a very very high investment for me).

3. Monitors

I already have a monitor (tv) which I'll use as a secondary screen (31inch, fullHD), but I want to buy a primary monitor for this build and I would like it to be a 2k monitor (since a 4k I think would be a bit over my budget). So in the beginning just 2 monitors but probably I'll upgrade to a 3rd one in the far future.

4. Peripherals

I need to buy the primary monitor, keyboard and mouse (not necessarily, since I already have one I am currently using for the laptop I own).

5. Why are you upgrading?

Momentarily I am working from home on a pretty low specs laptop and since I love to work from home instead of going to uni for every idea I want to implement I would love to have a good workstation. Also I can't play a lot of new things on my current laptop...

My biggest concerns are: I am afraid of bottle-necking and I am afraid of buying an overkill PC for what I am required to do.

I will place below a build I was looking to buy (in February-March - since I still need to get some more money for what I chose...). I think is a bit overkill but I'll let that for people who know what they are doing to decide.

Case: Thermaltake Core P3 Black Acrylic Window Mid Tower - Wall Mountable - External Optical Drives Only - this one was the stock one on the site I built this example. - I will not mount it on a wall.
Power Supply: 850W GameMax RGB Modular 80+ Gold Power Supply
Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Intel Z390-F GAMING 9th Gen ATX Motherboard
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-9700K 8 Core Processor (3.60GHz) 12MB Cache
CPU Cooler: EKWB EK-KIT P240 Custom 240mm Complete Water Cooling Kit
Memory: 32GB 3000MHz DDR4 (4x8GB) - Corsair Vengeance LPX
GPU: 8GB GeForce® RTX 2080 Graphics Card
Storage: 500GB M.2 3D SATA SSD
Storage: 2TB SATA III 6GB/s 7200rpm 64MB Cache 8ms
Integrated 7.1 High Definition 8-Channel Audio
10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN Port (Wi-Fi Not Included)
Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64 Bit

Thank you in advance.

you could swap to the 8700k for more treads..

case is overkill, look at cheaper ones instead

psu sounds sketch, thermaltake has better rgb psus, but a regular would probebly be better

you could just get a big air cooler like the dark rock pro 4

thought of a p4000?

does those workloads even benefit from nvme? is that ssd even nvme?

mobo?

treadripper maybe?

Agree with the 8700k.  Disagree with the case, no need to buy a second one just because...

Your PC will not bottle neck.  Current gen CPU with current gen GPU, you're fine.  I'd ditch the RGB power supply and get Seasonic Prime PSU.

It's literally in your quote...  It worries me people are offering advice and not reading the OP's post

I wrote it wrong, my mistake. I do not have the case. The entire build (case included) is just an example of what I was looking to buy. (I made that build on a site that allowed me to make a custom-PC and that was their "stock" case)

Isn't 8700k gonna create some bottle-necking with that GPU? I will ask a lot of stupid questions because I am a complete beginner when it comes to hardware... so sorry for that.

Also I am open to any kind of changes to my example, so if you think something will work better feel free to tell me what to buy. Thank you.
