Hello, friends.

Last year I was planning to build a PC for $1500 but I got sucked into school and I sort of scrapped the project. This is me starting it up again. Anywho, I did not keep myself up to date on the changes in PC hardware and software in the meantime. All of a sudden there are new graphics cards (i.e. GTX 2070 and 2080) and now I'm reading that Ryzen 2000s are the main CPUs to go for if you're wanting a team red system - the 1000s (i.e. Ryzen 5 1600, Ryzen 7 1700) are outdated.

Soooo, in short, I'm sort of confused as to what is considered "flagship" nowadays. I don't know what the best options are anymore because there seems to have been some changes in what is considered good or bad. I've kicked my budget up to $2,000 as of late and - after some light research - I've found that Ryzen is still a great option (I think). I've chosen the Ryzen 7 2700x as my processor of choice and I'm sort of building my PC around that and my graphics card: the GTX 2070. I'm just trying to play all of the AAA games (e.g. Destiny 2, Witcher III, etc) at 1080p (Maybe 1440?) 144hz above 100 fps. I'm trying to figure out what RAM is best for this processor but I'm getting opinions from both sides of the spectrum (in terms of MHz). But I digress, greatly. Back to the point.

Here is my question: What is the best system I can build for a strict budget for $2,000. Seriously, no games: not a penny over $2,000. I've never built a pc before but I've done a /breathtaking/ amount of research on it - up until this past year, obviously. I can talk through the process but I've never actually done the process- partly because of my fear-driven anxiety of completely frying the components. I digress, again.:D If we could draw up a parts list I would appreciate it!

Slap me with your feelings. ;)

Edit:

I'm also interested in streaming these AAA games via streaming platforms like Twitch.

I also currently have two monitors (identical to one another) that are at 60hz and at 1080p. I would like a configuration that works on these monitors but is also compatible with monitors that function at 144hz and 1080p - if that is possible. Like I said, I've no experience in this realm, help me out :D

Ryzen 3000 is weeks away at most, Ryzen 2000 prices are due to drop and the new stuff will be pretty killer. Might be super worth it to wait for that, then make a new thread and slap a pcpartpicker list into it to ask our opinions.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Because of what you are wanting to do i'd wait if you haven't gotten any parts yet. Wait and see what the ryzen 3000 series is going to be like, its only a few more days away. If you are confident like me and think the x470s are going to be compatible with the 3000s with a bios update i would say build away.
