So, uh.. I have no clue what I'm doing with overclocking and I'm not even sure if I should.

I have a prebuilt HP Pavilion gaming desktop (only upgrade is doubling the RAM from 8GB to 16) with an Intel i5-8400 6-core processor. It says it's 2.8 GHz with a max turbo boost to 4GHz.

Should I look at overclocking it? If so, how would I go about that safely? I don't want to run the risk of possibly screwing something up because I'm stupid and don't know what I'm doing.

Thanks for any help and/or advice! It's always appreciated.

Unfortunately, you can't overclock due to your CPU and motherboard.

Your CPU is a non-K processor, which means that if you wanted to overclock, you would need a CPU that ends in K, e.g. i5 8600k, i7 8700k.

Plus, your motherboard most likely does not support overclocking.

Ah yeah I forgot about the K thing.. Alright well glad I didn't try it, thanks.

I've got no clue, my system is a prebuilt HP computer since I had to get it fast and didn't have time or money to try to learn how to build a computer.
