Custom res not using 144hz.

I have a 144 hz monitor and I like playing CSGO in 4:3. I heard from a guy on a server about the best resolution for 4:3 on a 1080p monitor, 1440x1080. I set it in my nvidia control panel as a custom resolution, but it seemed less smooth than it normally was, so I turned on vsync and found that it was running at only 60 hz. What should I do to get the custom res to use 144 hz?

Never mind, I just changed my res to 768p and back and now its running at 144 hz
