Hi Guys

I've been a little concerned about my CPU performance lately. Its an i5-8500 of roughly 8 months of age. I replaced the stock cooler months back with a cheap small tower air cooler which does a great job, during CPU-Z stress tests it runs at 45-46C at 69% fan speed according to Gigabyte's System Information Viewer.

Anyway to the point, due to a nagging concern I ran a CPU-Z benchmark on the CPU and it came back with a terrible result overall on Single Thread performance. I re-ran the benchmark multiple times thereafter and achieved consistent results. *Deep Breath*  The single core performance score is less than an i3-6100, roughly 20% under their i5-8500 score. The multi thread performance is about 2.3% under an i5-8500, and right on an i5-8400.

Any thoughts folks?

*Edit* I've had task manager open, checking for anything chewing system resources but its all clear on that aspect as well. Next to no CPU usage.
The Bios is up to date with the latest F11 revision of Aorus B360 Gaming 3 wifi bios.

I've linked the CPU-Z report

I don't know how well respected the CPU-Z benchmarking tool is.  I think there's a Cinebench megathread on this forum for a reason.  You might try running Cinebench instead with HWInfo monitoring the CPU frequency throughout the test.  You could compare your results with some of the others found in that thread, it's sticked at the top.
