So I was going to create a new system image backup, but then i ran into a problem. My OS is allegedly 382 GB. Well it says it might take up 382, so i doubt it will. Though the space this will require is not a problem, as I do have 2 TB left on my backupdrive, I's just that I don't want it to bacup annything ele than my system image, as 382 GB is anly half my HDD+SSD I'll end up with a hella lot of cleenup to do (Well abviusly it's not going to be 382 GB, as it says it MAY be, but it still is going to be a lot if it's telling the trouth). And I am sure no one here want's to filter out almost half a TB? So do annyone know if this is just windows trolling me, saying that the OS MAY be 382 GB, or do it actually backup more than just my OS?

What i used to find out what exactly was clogging up my system was TreeSize. You can see every folder and their size in MB. So in my case. My SSD was slowly growing in size while not istalling anything on it.

In about 2 minutes found out it was a google chrome cache of about 40 gigs hidden away in temp folders.

Might help you out as well with this.

I never understood backing up the entire system. Just make a copy of everything you don't want to loose, and in case of shitstorm reinstall windows.

I wouldn't waste what's nearly 400GB just to backing up something I can mostly replicate within an hour (give or take, depends on what programs you need, and restoring their settings).

Clean installation of windows 7 (assuming that's yours) is roughly 20-25 GB and that's the 64 bit. No way it could grow THAT much. Installing everything on C:\ aren't we?

Manage your time and effort. It's not worth it.

Well, since I do have a 3 TB backup unit, space is not the problem. And it is on a constant backup, so I won't loose annything what so ever. But I have W8 :( and I have literally spendt days trying to config it to a state almost identical to W7, if not better. But to be honnest, I don't remember how to re-do it, nor do I want to spend all that time again to replicate W8. But with a full system backup, I won't have to. Bessides, I have my os on an SSD, but I only have 140GB on it atm. And taking in considderation that it want to backup almost 400, meens that it's taking files from my mass storage drive. Which seems really weird to me. As well as one more thing, it says that it want to backup from both my internal drives, my rom drive, as well as my external drives. "go home pc, you're drunk". My SSD probably isn't going to fail in the future, but I can't be to safe with this one.

In that case I can recommend PartImage. Runs under linux, but you can make yourself bootable CD/USB.

If you really want to backup just the SSD, it should the like 5 minutes so set the process up.

If you want to restore your backup, better use SystemRescueCD

Good Luck!
