Active noise cancelling software

CyberFern0

Hey so I was looking to buy an active noise cancelling headset, but by the time we could buy it, it was out of stock, so we had to go with my second choice. However, it isn’t noise cancelling. Recently, I read that the way it works is that a software generates sound waves which are negative to ambience sound. Is it possible that I could get a software that cancels background noise even if the headset isn’t noise cancelling? Thanks in advance.

Short answer is no. There has to be a sense microphone to work out what noise to cancel, and possibly another one inside the earphones to detect what's left and adapt the reduction. Without such information available, it is difficult or impossible to generate the right nose to cancel it out. Also it is time dependent, and doing it externally in software isn't likely to be fast enough to get good results even if the other parts could be overcome.
