Hi,

I just had a quick question before I go ahead and purchase new parts for an upgrade to my build. I’m wondering if I should get a 128Gb M.2 NVMe SSD for a boot drive and a 500Gb 2.5 Inch SSD for a game drive or if I should just get a bigger M.2, and make partitions. Thanks!

I think it’s up to individual preference. My setup is similar, with a 240GB SATA SSD as my boot drive, and a 1TB Hard Drive to store most of my games and files. If you have the money, you can’t really go wrong with faster storage. In addition, I believe that I heard somewhere that the larger the SSD, the faster they are.

I just had heard that having the OS and running games from the same drive could cause bottlenecks. If I went with the first, I would have the M.2 SSD for boot, and the SATA SSD for games and a 2Tb HDD for mass storage. Or If I went partitioning, then I would allocate whatever the OS needs in one partition and have a second for a game drive. Then again have the HDD for mass storage.

Hm. Ive never heard of that being a bottleneck. I suppose its possible. Having more drives would theoretically be better in terms of keeping your data safe if one of the drives fails. You will still have the data from the other 2 drives.
