You're not going to get the full performance using a SAS drive on a SATA drive. You can probably just sell the drive and buy a regular SATA drive with the same capacity and still pocket some money as SAS drives sell quite a bit even used. If you don't want to go that route, try this: https://www.amazon.ca/StarTech-18-Inch-Cable-Power-SAS729PW18/dp/B000V72AQ4?tag=georiot-ca-default-20&ascsubtag=tomshardware-4797678580302317288-20

However, your motherboard's drive controller probably doesn't support the SAS protocol. A RAID card would probably be your only option if you were to use the SAS drive.

Currently I don't need SAS speeds. SATA normally does 6Gb/s.  I am confused whether it will work at normal SATA speeds. I will be planning to upgrade to SAS supported motherboards in future,

SAS 12 Gb/s is downward compatible to 6Gb/s, but your main issue here is that you need a SAS supporting motherboard or RAID / HBA card.
