Best All Around Monitor for $200

dre92

I am looking for a 21.5" / 22" LED monitor, but I still haven't decided whether I'll get TN or IPS panel. I am gonna be using it mainly for gaming, I play mostly FPS games like BF3, COD, and sometimes I play Dota 2. Other than gaming, I also use Photoshop a lot and watch movies, so I think it's gonna be like 60% gaming, 40% Photoshop/Movies. My max budget is $200.

I found some candidates, but I am still open for suggestions from you guys.

For the TN panel :Samsung S22B350B -OR- Asus VS228N.

For the IPS panel: Asus VS229H-P -OR- LG IPS22EA63V-P

Please feel free to give a suggestion about which monitor I should get, whether it's one of those candidates or perhaps you have your own recommendation.

Correction: LED monitor.. you mean LED back light LCD monitor.

Yes, for your budget, you will be stuck with white LED back light. You are definitely cannot afford better back light technologies such as high grade CFLs, or GB-LED.

You have to choose. For your budget the IPS panels aren't particularly fast.. they are great for gaming.. but for a lot of FPS playing... I am not sure. Might be fine, but it all depends on you. Then again for Photoshop also.. the IPS panels that you can afford is only entry level IPS panels (eIPS). So they are not as good as more expensive IPS panels.

If you are in Canada, check out the Dell U2312HM. It's on special at 200$.

It's 23inch 1080p, eIPS panel (so entry level), but you do get a good stand, and fully adjustable. Response time and input lag are very good for an IPS panel, and nothing is glossy on the monitor so that you can focus better on your gaming and work. I think its a good balance monitor, and at that price, it's hard to say no. Check reviews.

Yeah I mean LED back light LCD monitor, thanks for correcting. That's a good one, but unfortunately I am in Australia, so I think the shipping fee will be quite expensive, I'm not even sure if they want to ship it over here. Also, I am gonna put it on my desk and don't think it will fit because I have measured it before and the max width of monitor that can fit is 520 mm. That's why I am looking for a 22" monitor. But thanks for your recommendation, I really appreciate it. =)

Ah, I see. Dell has the same monitor in 22inch.. but a bit over your budget.

Dell Australia exists: http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/defa...n&s=gen&~ck=cr

The 22inch version of the suggested monitor is 50$ more than your 200$ budget limit (still 1080p, fully adjustable stand, etc.)

Also, if I am not mistaken, shipping of monitors is free for you guys, but check to be sure.

If that is not an option check out the LG IPS224V. 22inch 1080p, still eIPS panel, inexpensive. Downside is that the monitor stand is basic, and simple, not great quality but does the job. The price of the monitor justify the cheaper stand.

I don't have the extra $50, so I guess I'll think about the LG. I gotta ask though, compared to the Asus VS229H-P, what makes the LG IPS224V a better choice? I mean, both of them have eIPS panel, and also 5 ms response time, and I love the look of the Asus better, but I don't wanna sacrifice feature just for appearance.
