Upgrade old pc - tips please

Hi!

newb here.

i keep watching LTT on youtube and now I am thinking of upgrading my 4-year old pc. I'm not sure if i need to upgrade all parts or just the GPU.

It's for gaming.

my old rig:

Fractal Design Define R4 - Chassi

EVGA powerSupply SuperNOVA 750W

Gig Geforce 970 windforce

I7-4790K 4,0GHz - CPU

16GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM Corsair Vengeance Low Profile

ASUS Z97-A - ATX / Z97 - motherboard

can i just squeez in a GTX 1070 or 80?

Is the motherboard to old for anything new like that?

or is the next best thing to buy a new rig?

I'm hoping that i just can switch some stuff with new ones.

I'm from sweden, but i would say my budget is 500-1000$

Thanks

ps. I dont really aim for 4k gaming. i dont have a monitor for that.

pps. Also right now i dont have any extra cooling, just the stock CPU cooling that came with the i7.

I used a 1070 with my 4790k, it's a great idea. A 1080 would be great too.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Unless the 970 is holding you back, you don't really need to upgrade anything at all. The 4790K remains a beefcake.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

you've got a decent system, no need to buy a new one altogether at all

easily

it's not, it'll support both cards just fine, even better ones

not at all, you've got a decent rig mate, it'll last a couple years more if you take good care of it

if you really want to squeeze out extra performance though, consider overclocking that 4790k - make sure to get a decent aftermarket cooler like a hyper 212 evo, that stock cooler will not do

You don't need to upgrade for a couple years. If you want to, you could upgrade to the 1080, but at the same time, you could save that money and upgrade in a year or two to whatever is the best specs out at the time. You've got a really solid rig.

Thanks for the help!

I ran 3D mark time spy benchmark and got a 3761.

got low framerates both on en GPU and the CPU test.

with a new GPU will i get ovet 60fps atleast?

also just realize that this test may have been a little to hard for my computer.
