I recently got my hands on a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700, and i wanted to install that on my Gateway GM5483E with a 3.00 GHz Intel Pentium D 926, i did some research before buying the Core 2 Extreme, they were both the same socket (LGA 755), when i found out it was compatible i went ahead and purchased it, so far so good, after i swapped out the Pentium for the  Core 2 Extreme i booted up my computer and nothing happened, all i got was a blank screen, the fans and hard drive spun up but after a few seconds the shut down, and if i put the Pentium back, my computer booted up normally, i swapped them again and...nothing...the computer boots up with the Pentium but but not with the Core 2 Extreme,is there something i am doing wrong?

any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Same socket doesn't mean compatible. There will be a compatibility list on gateway's site, and it doesn't likely include a CPU of that caliber

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Updating is rather simple, there should be loads of online tutorials for you to refer to that would be loads more helpful than someone typing it
