WD Blue SSD throttling

VikasRana

Hi,

I'm a programmer and need storage for regular performance, currently I'm using

  • Dell 5577, i7 7700HQ, 16GB RAM
  • WD Blue 500GB m.2 SSD
  • Samsung 850 500GB 2.5 inch SSD

I need to replace the WD Blue due to thermal throttling issues, I wanted the Samsung m.2 but its not available at the reasonable price where I live.

My Questions

  1. Can anyone recommend a m.2 SSD which do not throttle in laptops?
  2. Can Dell 5577 support 1tb or 2tb m.2 SSD if I want to upgrade?

Thanks!

What kind of throttle happened in your case?

thermal throttling on processing database files more than 10 or 20GB, the SSD performance goes down below 50Mbps from 500Mbps

What makes you sure it's your SSD?
It's pretty rare to see SATA SSD throttle that bad.

I've experienced similar issue but the one that oerheat is my IO controller, not the SSD.
Try checking all aspect related to your IO. I'll glad to be able to help on this issue.

I'm sure its the SSD, the SSD temperature hitting 70 degree Celsius...  same thing happen when I copy data from/to the WD SSD...
