new tv with old hifi questions.

Ashleyyyy

so i've been using a second hand CRT tv for a while, but that's starting to break.

the whole display goes purple if it's been on for 30 minutes. but it's 20 years old, so yeah..

anyway, i've got a lot of stuff plugged into the tv that i want to use with a new one:

  • VCR/VHS player (i've got a big collection, i want to watch those on a new tv as well)
  • surround amp from the 90's with dolby pro-logic 5.1 surround (RCA plugs only)
  • Nintendo 64
  • tv channels itself, goes into the tv via composite/scart

the tv i'm looking to buy is a 32 inch 1080p with a few HDMI inputs, no composite/scart.

i want to know how i can play nintendo and watch vhs tapes and tv without it looking like crap on the new tv.

i thought about one of those boxes from a few years ago with a harddrive in it that allowed you to record tv channels.

a lot of models had hdmi upscaling, and scart and composite inputs, and i planned to buy one and route all of the stuff through it.

it would be a lot cheaper than buying a dedicated upscaler...

i don't know how i can plug my surround amp into it yet...

is that the best option? or can i use something else?
