Help with HDMI and 1080p 144hz

Hi guys, I am considering getting a new monitor to go with my Acer VX 15. The laptop only has a HDMI 2.0 port but the monitor I am considering getting has HDMI 1.4b can it support 1080p 144hz? If not what resolution would I have to use to get 144hz? (I play 4:3 stretched in csgo and my res is currently play at 1440 1080 if that changes anything)

HDMI 1.4b maxes out at 1080p120hz if I'm not wrong. If your laptop has a DVI dual link connector, I would recommend using that instead

It only has Hdmi. But I'm not running it at full HD when I need it to reach 144hz. I would be running it at 1440:1080 stretched. Can that hit 144hz?

HDMI on the VG248QE is limited to 60 Hz. Get the ViewSonic XG2401 if you want to run 1080p 144 Hz over HDMI.

So even though it can run at a higher refresh rate the monitor caps it?

Yes. Most other 1080p 144 Hz monitors do the same, it is just an unfortunate limitation of those products. HDMI 1.4 itself allows up to 1080p 144 Hz but monitor manufacturers may choose not to allow the full capability to be used.

Looks like HDMI can only get 60hz on that monitor. So you wouldn't be able to hit 144hz on that monitor over HDMI. Also may I ask why you are playing at 1440p and then scaling to 1080p?

I play stretched because it changes the player models in csgo making it easier to hit because the models appear wider.

Is there any way to get it to reach 144hz off HDMI? Any adapters or anything? I am getting a really good deal for the monitor.($140)

So even if I ran at 1024:768 in Windows I still can't get 144hz? Thats bull if you ask me....

The monitor doesn't allow over 60 Hz with HDMI at any resolution as far as I know.
