Headset Microphone Not picking up any sound

Hello,

For Christmas i received a Kotion Each G1000 Gaming headset and it worked fine until a connection was broken in the Headphone plug, resulting in me cutting off the jack and soldering a new plug on. The headphones themselves worked fine after that. I then realised that despite my PC detecting the microphone, it was receiving no sound from it. Could it be a hardware or software problem? How can I fix it?

Based on your description it is most likely a hardware issue. Can you provide more details on how you "fixed" the connectors?

I snipped off the existing connector then soldered the three wires inside to respective places inside the aftermarket, replacement jacks. The headphones worked fine after. It was something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/sourcingmap-Spring-Adapter-Converter-Connector/dp/B0147XEDLM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1493400492&sr=8-5&keywords=3.5mm+plug+replacement

First off, stay away from cheap connectors, get Rean at the very least. I learnt it the hard way after one of those snapped inside my phone. Second, I mean the actual pinout, not the connectors. Did you get the polarity on the mic correctly?

I  believe you misunderstood - the headphone jack was replaced due to a connection being broken and worked fine afterwards. The microphone jack was never replaced and as far as I know, worked fine previously.

Oh well then I do believe I did not quite understand the phrasing of your post. My first point still stands, get decent connectors before the cheap ones break inside a device. As for your actual problem, well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  no real clue as to what is wrong. The electret capsule (the actual microphone) could be faulty. Can you test if the computer recognizes other mics?
