Advice Needed: Upgrading to dual Graphics cards - need to Mobo too?

Monty007

Hi,

I currently have the Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H.  I'm running a Hackintosh.  OSX is my primary system - Windows 7 for gaming exclusively.  I game a lot so I need the graphics power.  I game on 3 x 24" - 5760 x 1200.  I know I need VRAM to get higher FPS but I want to wait and see if the rumour of the 6GB 780ti is coming true.  The board I have only has 1 x16 PCI lane.  I'm currently using a GTX 670 Watercooled.  I'm looking to upgrade to either dual 780ti's or wait for the new 790 when it comes out.  I know if I go with the 790 the existing board would work.  What would happen if I put 2 780ti's in?  Operate with limited bandwidth due to the x8 lane restricting the x16 lane?  Because of the Hackintosh factor I need to be careful of mobo choice.  I'm looking into a proper Asus ROG board or one of the Higher-end Gigabyte ones but compatibility for the OSX side is critical.  I use OSX for video editing.

Second question:  Do I need to upgrade my PSU?  I'm currently running a Corsair HX750.  I'm thinking of getting the AX1200 if I go Dual vid cards.

Thanks in advance!

My build:  Leviathan  Case: 900D  CPU: i7 3770K (watercooled)  Mobo: Z77X-UD5H GPU: EVGA GTX 780 Hydro Copper GPU: MSI GTX 780 watercooled PSU: EVGA 1300W G2  RAM: 32 GB Corsair Vengance  HDDs: 1 x 120 GB Intel 330 SSD (OS X); 1 x 256 GB Samsung 840 pro (Windows 8); 2 x 2TB Seagate Barracuda (RAID 0 Data OS X); 1 x 3TB Seagate Barracuda (OS X backups)  Monitors: 1 x 24" Apple LED Cinema (center); 2 x 23" Apple LED Cinema (surround)  Watercooling: 3 rads, CPU, GPU, GPU, MCP655 pump, Lots of fittings, EK reservoir, EK UV Blue coolant.  Updated build: Leviathan 2.0
