He's using a stock AMD cooler from when he bought it.

What's your vcore at? If voltage isn't an issue, make sure the CPU cooler is seated properly, infact just re-seat it with new thermal paste.

something can't be right with air flow or maybe he scraped the paste off the heat sink before installing. get him to do a cmos reset. maybe the voltages are off.

Oh god, that's a temperature.

I'd say picking up a cheap 212 EVO, Arctic 64 Plus, or GAMMAXX400 would definitely make a difference

idk

We've used coretemp, that's saying it's 50-79 with occasional weird things such as 12c.

Decided the CPU is probably buggered, atleast the sensor is. Anyone know what the best FM2 socket processor is? ( Not FM2+ ) Read some reviews saying it's the AMD a6-6600k.

Also are they all APU's? No just base CPU's?

I have a 5600k ( quad ) if you can find one.

and a 5400k dual core.... Like $35.

should get your buddy to check on a BIOS  update for his board for the ( + ) models before the apu burns up.

This is just a sensor error

I have an 860k on one of my computers and depending on what program reads the temp it will be off 30-40 degrees C.  Its been like that since I bought it and when I looked online it seemed like a normal issue for x4's.

I use Asus AI Suite and it is the only one that gives me the right temp ... right now in AI suite I have 63C and in HW monitor its 98C.

LabRat - You cannot update bios from FM2 to FM2+, they are different sockets.

i5-6600k @ 4.5ghz || XFX RX-480 GTR || 16gb DDR4 || Lots of SSD's.

You would have to stick with FM2 which is a dead socket type.  It would be better to wait for Ryzen unless its just a HTPC or something then throw a A6 in it and it will be fine.  But I doubt there is actually an issue with this CPU.  Mine does the exact same thing and a lot of people online say their temp sensors on these chips are wrong in some/most applications.
