2012 Non-retina Macbook pro & 1440p monitor.

Simple question, can a 2012 non-retina macbook pro connect to a 1440p display at its full resolution??? 

I can use a minidisplay to DP cable to connect them, but the question is that can the macbook pro support a 1440p monitor??  Or 1080p is the highest resolution it supports?

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.
