Can I use a Cobra MD210 Flash on 700D?

Is it safe to use my Cobra MD210 Flash on a Canon EOS 700D?

I'm away from my computer, will check what sort of flash the Cobra is.  Or you can try looking in their product description to see if Canon is listed as a compatible camera system.

 

Normally it should be safe as the contacts between the camera hotshoe and the flash just send a signal for the flash to fire and if TTL is support it tells the flash the intensity and duration it has to be.  If TTL is not compatible then the flash becomes a manual unit where you set the duration and intensity on the flash and the camera just sends a trigger signal.

 

For this to work, at least the main pin on the flash shoe has to align with the main connection point on the camera hotshoe.

On some cameras, like my Nikons, they still include an old style port for connecting a cable to trigger non TTL or older incompatible flash units.  As long as I can connect the camera and the flash using that cable, I can trigger the flash but the settings for the flash will be manual.

I did not google that flash but how old is the flash?

If it is old it could be a high voltage flash which fries your camera.

OK I'm at my computer and this is what I could find about the Cobra MD210.

And it seems someone was able to use it on their Nikon D50 without problems other then of course it has to be treated as a pure manual flash, no TTL metering.

Cobra Auto 250 will fry your camera http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html and that flash looks very similar to the MD210

 

So I would definitely measure the voltage before using it.
