Computer using 8 of 16 gig of ram

i have 16 gb of ram. and today when i started it up it only uses 8gb of the ram. any ideas to why?

You mean when you first booted it? It's not supposed to even use 8GB of RAM, unless you have a lot of programs running in the background.

i mean that is not even displaying that 16 gb of ram exists..

A dead stick maybe?

The DIMM slot for the other stick may not be working.

What operating system? One of them does not support more than 8 *IIRC*.

What motherboard? Some do not support more than 8 GB of RAM.

If it was seeing it all before, and now it does not, the stick/slot might have died.

i figured it out.. 2 of the ram sticks were not able to cope with the overclocking i had done. i went down to 1600 and everything works fine now.

the overclock i had diled in had worked just fine for 6 months. but apperantly it was to mutch in the long run

maybe something along the lines of OS limitations.
I heard older and 32 bit versions of windows limit the cap.
What does the BIOS say?
