Asus ROG X470-F Green QLED

Go to solution Solved by Tea-Sir,

It is normal for it to go through each of the LED's. It is just letting you know that it tests the hardware, and when the LED turns off, it means the test was successful. If it stays on, it usually means there is a problem. Some motherboards will leave the LED on, even when the boot test is complete. But since your PC refuses to boot at times, there must a problem somewhere.

I am guessing the SSD is brand new, so maybe it is a faulty unit. If you have any other SSD ord HDD you could try to install Windows on, and see if the problem persists? (With your current SSD unplugged from the PC)

If the problem persists it could be a bad SATA cable (If you are using a SATA SSD).

Hi all,

First post here and feel bad that it has to be troubleshooting.

I have a new build and am using an ASUS ROG X470-F MoBo. The issue is, I read through the user manual and it says that a “yellow green” qled means there is a boot issue. I’ve noticed that I do actually have that qled on. I get stuck on the ROG screen where it says “Del or F2 to load into UEFI settings”.

Restarting my computer lets me proceed as normal with the exception that the green light stays on.

I’ve reseated the CPU, unplugged all HDD/SSD, reseated RAM, used 1 stick of RAM, made sure everything is plugged in but still, that qled stays on.

The entire process is:

turn on computer > everything turns on fine (fans, lighting etc) > green qled > hit or miss whether I get stuck on the ROG Del/F2 bios screen

Please help :’(

The green LED indicates a boot problem. So I think we can rule out the CPU, RAM and Graphics card for now.

Have you reached the point where you install Windows?

If you have Windows installed, there is a few things we can try.

The SSD itself could be faulty.

If the build is brand new, doing a BIOS update would be a pretty good idea.

I’ve tried a BIOS Update and it still stays green.

Sometimes I get lucky and I can boot into windows and all seems well BUT the Green qled stays on.

I’ve also noticed that when I turn the PC first on, the QLED goes: Red > White > Orange > Green then stays on green. Not sure if that helps/is normal.

Ahh thanks for explaining that!

Yup, the M.2 Samsung 970 Evo Plus is brand new. I’ll give it a test with a different drive when I’m home and post the results.

@The89Lunder It's working! I switched my M.2 and it now boots normal. Thanks dude!

By the looks of it, the green qled turns off after passing the "Press Del/F2 key..." screen so I'm assuming that's when the boot is tested. Again, thank you so much!

Glad you found the problem. Hope you can get a RMA on the SSD.

Now go enjoy your new PC ?
