Thunderbolt 3 to high resolution/refresh rate monitor

kurama3114

Hello, I currently have the XPS 9560 and I am planning on connecting it to LG's new monitor (34GK950F-B) It is 3440x1440 @144hz. If I use a USB-C to display port adaptor, will I be able to achieve the full resolution and refresh rate? The USB-C port has Thunderbolt 3, but apparently it has some unique limitations, so I am not sure if it will work. Thanks!

It is likely you will be limited to 120 Hz. 144 Hz at that resolution requires DP 1.4 support with HBR3 speed. Most Thunderbolt 3 devices only support DP 1.2 (HBR2) unless they have a Titan Ridge TB3 controller, and all adapters that I've seen only support HBR2 speed as well.
