Hi. I some industrial machines that have there one PC with all the software that the machines needs to work. Some PC's have win xp others have win 98. So i cant upgrade to a newer version of windows because the software are not compatible with newer versions of windows and even if wase compatible the configuration processes are complicated. I allready have done one machine and its working fine but on the 2nd machine i have encouter a issue. Im using a Solftware called Disk2VHD and on the 1st machine i made the VHD file on the physical and worked fine now doing the same on the 2nd machine it dosent start "cloning" and gives me a error of "ERROR: INCORRECT FUNCION". So i took the HDD from the physical machine and using a HDD Dock i connected to my win 11 machine., and the "cloning" start but at the end it get stock and dosent give me any error just stops. I allready try to use StarWind V2V Converter but no success. on 26% it gives me a error "error read file" Any one have a solucion ou a alternative?

Don't even ask why I'm using Windows XP, it's a hobby project. Anyway what the title suggests is true, running the very latest Catalyst drivers available for XP. When on the desktop its extremely laggy and black rectangles frequently appear. Any GPU intensive application runs worse than it did on the older board-integrated graphics. CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 4000+.

Budget (including currency): $350 for each system including monitors (US Dollars) Country: Indonesia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Windows XP and 7 "retro-ish" gaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): see below Yesterday me and some of my friend talking about the glory day when we used to visit internet cafe for running now-defunct online game and some LAN-Party game like modded CS 1.6, etc, and I pitched them to built the "ultimate" Windows XP-7 system that have atleast compatible driver with the OS, our current plan for the hardware is: Core i5-4670K or 4590K (gonna push it to the highest clock sweet spot) XP driver-compatible Z87/Z97 motherboard, preferably mATX (including onboard sound and NIC) 8-16GB of RAM (I know 32 bit XP is only support 4GB max, but we also gonna dual boot it to windows 7) 2x 256GB SATA SSD, for each windows XP and 7 (let me know if XP require specific SATA SSD if there's some compatibility caveat with it) Combo CD/DVD Burner (let me know if I need to have separate CD and DVD drive or specific models for the best compatibility) Either GTX 770 or GTX 970 (there's some modded driver that allow Maxwell-based card run on XP, like this one, but let me know if I just use Kepler card instead) Deepcool PF-600 PSU Snowman 6 heatpipe CPU cooler (Best AliExpress cooler in the market) Cheapo ATX case to get that "Internet cafe" feeling with some mod for airflow (already sorted out and wide enough to fit the CPU cooler) 16:10 or 4:3 LCD monitor with DVI input (LED driver is preferable, or can be modded from CCFL to LED) Let me know if this specs is valid, especially for XP, and about the internet connectivity, is isolating the XP and 7 into separate VLAN in the router is good enough? or I should just hook it up to smartphone 4G hotspot to avoid any network vulnerability? Also, there's any of you know USB 3.0 add in card that somehow have XP compatibility and running it at full speed? or I just make some of my SBC to be running SMB server for high speed file transfer instead? Thank you in advance!

Hello LTT Community, I am rebuilding a Mackie DXB 200, it's essentially a console that hosts it's OS on Windows 32Bit Systems. Currently, I plan to have the system run Windows POS Ready 32bit in the endgame, and I am compiling components based off of an upgrade list Provided from a group chat. Due to TOS i can't really share the guide I'm following but I can share the purchase list from Ebay! My main concerns are that the parts are scarce and i want to be clear, i want to follow the guide word for word to avoid FF-ing shiz up. Apparently the Mackie Software is just that unstable and finicky. The RAM is the culprit in question. I will be Able to buy either: 1. 1x Stick of 4gb 2. 1x Stick of 8gb 3. 2x Sticks of 8gb for 16gb 4. 4 Sticks of 8gb for 32gb I know a 32bit system is only going to be capable of 4gbs, but I want to make use of dual channel on the MB. Is it safe to drop the 16gb set in my MB? Or should I just stick with one stick of 4gb ram? Another question would be if I am good with the components Here? It looked like nothing was incompatible, but a second pair of eyes would be nice. Thanks guys!

So for the past year, I've been trying to get Windows XP to run natively on my 2014 Lenovo B50-70 laptop. I only succeeded yesterday, as at last the conditions were perfect, where I installed it with E2B successfully, the HDD was in MBR and such. However I quickly discovered a problem; There does not exist a single video driver for the integrated or AMD GPU it has; I looked everywhere. I tried some chipset drivers, nothing works. It's stuck without a video driver and it sucks bad, video playback barely works at a somewhat close to 25-30 FPS when you make the window small. The GPU's are the Radeon R5 M230 and the Intel HD Graphics 4400. Does anyone know of anything I could do? Maybe somehow apply Windows 7 drivers to XP? Do not question why I installed it, I just find it fun and I like XP and using XP. I installed Windows XP 32-bit SP3 by the way.

(I'm not sure this is the correct thread, mods please move if that's the case, thx) I built a Luna-theme XP Shutdown and Logoff menu which is very close to the original, it works on Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10 (32 and 64-bit). I used AHK to code it together from nothing, because I miss the XP shutdown menu and so do a bunch of other people. I used all original image files when possible to recreate it as closely as possible . Here is the download: https://github.com/blackwidowfarms/XPshutdown (contact me for questions or comments) Here is a Youtube of it in action: and some screenshots (240dpi, 4k monitor @ 250% zoom, your quality will vary)

I've decided I want to build a PC that will run Windows XP 32bit and I want to use the most powerful officially supported components that still have high compatibility. I plan to pick up a quality CRT monitor for this build and a future Windows 98 build I'd like to do, so the GPU should support analog output in some capacity but I believe all cards prior to Pascal support analog output. Not sure about AMD side though. So far I'm thinking Intel i7 3770k on a Z77 platform with an Nvidia GTX 780ti. I'm not super familiar with any memory limitation intricacies Windows XP 32bit has and I see mixed information from random forums that can date back to 2001. I have questions like: "Can I have 4gb RAM and also have a 3GB video card?" "Can I have more than 4GB physical RAM and have Windows only use 4GB on boot so it's seamless with no compatibility issues? If so, how would I get dual channel to work if the kit is say, 2x4GB or 2x8GB?" "What are the maximum storage device size limitations?" I've already considered the GTX 690 and decided against it because I'm not sure about SLI stability in general (cool card tho). I'm aware that technically the GTX 980ti and Titan X are supported on XP with a minor driver edit, but I don't want to pay current gpu prices for those cards and it's not technically "out of the box supported" so they don't follow my "officially supported" theme i have going on. let me know if I'm missing any other potential GPU contenders. I'll come right out and say it, I'm not really sure if the i7 3770k is the absolute endgame CPU for this build. I'm really just looking for best single core performance here. And I guess this is where my research ended and I hopped on this forum. I've been researching for 3 days now very inefficiently. I'd really like to see a list of motherboards and chipsets that support XP but somehow haven't found any online. Also interested in any pc case suggestions, thinking of getting like an early to mid 2000s period accurate case or something but I don't know any off hand. I'm 24 years old and always played with PCs growing up but I never really got into PCs until 2016 so there's a lot of hardware history I missed completely.

Ok so, my father need to use a win xp machine from time to time because of work, but i screwed up because i wanted to give him a more powerful PC (he had a core duo, now have a pentium g3258). Since there is no way that i go down the rabbit hole of trying to make win xp work on a SSD and realitvely modern CPU, for my own mental sanity, i think a VM is my best bet. problem is: i'm a massive linux noob, never used a VM and don't know wich distro is better. i know that probably every distro can run a VM but if gamer os exist then probably, somewere, there is a distro optimized to run VMs... can someone help me out please?

I purchased a Transcend PSD330 SSD to upgrade my Toshiba Satelite Pro A10 which has a very sick sounding HDD. There is nothing in particular I need to save from the existing HDD so ideally I just want a fresh install of XP or Linux for the new drive. I have tried creating a bootable USB using Rufus, easy2boot and YUMI but with no luck. You can prioritise the FDD as a boot device in the BIOS but whatever USB and method I use does not work. It is almost as if it does not actually support booting from USB. I have no rewritable CDs to create a bootable disk but I do have an IDE to USB adapter. Any ideas on a suitable method to use or will I need to purchase a disk to burn an ISO onto? System Specs: Toshiba Satelite Pro A10 PSA15E-01PFQ-EN, Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor - M 2.20 GHz, 512K Cache, 400 MHz FSB, 512MB RAM, Existing HDD: Toshiba MK3021GAS, New SSD: Transcend PSD330

So I'm working on a project right now... I've got a "spare" computer that I am working on installing older versions of Windows on. Currently, I have (working) copies for Windows 11, Windows 7, and Windows XP Professional installed. All are x64 copies. After installing XP, the computer will either boot to A: A older Windows boot loader (not the newer blue-screened one from Windows 10) that gives the option to boot from Windows 7 or 11 B: Boots to Windows XP only Since drives can only be created with a maximum of 4 partitions, Windows 7 and Windows 11 are housed on an SSD (1 EFI partition, 1 System Partition, 1 Windows 11 OS partition, 1 Windows 7 OS partition) and the XP install is housed on a separate partition on a HDD. I know that is likely the issue (Bootloader for 7 and 11 wont read off 2 different drives), since it wants to boot off one drive or the other. The order of which they were installed was: Windows 11, then 7, then XP. I realize now that it might have made sense to do that in the reverse order, but oh well... My question is, what should I do to make the bootloader show all three Windows versions and ensure it boots to the loader? Surely there is some way it can show the operating systems on multiple drives in the bootloader... or maybe the default windows bootloader can't read XP? I have looked at installing a boot loader such as rEFInd, but I can't seem to find a (safe) file download for that... I've heard that older versions of Windows have compatibility issues with other loaders like GRUB (maybe I am wrong), so I am looking for something that is compatible. Would love any help y'all can offer! To get this out of the way, since I know some are going to ask: yes, I know that VMs are likely a more reliable solution. However, this is a project primarily for fun (and running older software) so I am not interested in VMs since this is not my main PC and I prefer running it fully off the physical hardware.

Hi, there! First of all, I'm not seeking help for piracy or bypass. As you can see in the photo, I have a genuine key, but I have no idea where my original XP cd is. I own an old laptop which needed to replace the HDD. This laptop is around 15 years old, so it won't run (properly) newer Windows versions. I would like to know where can I find an original (untouched) ISO of Windows XP. Microsoft does not seems to have it available (like it has for Windows 7, with a valid key), and all that I find are cooked up versions in sketchy sites. Does anyone know where can I download a genuine ISO of Windows XP?? Thanks in advance!

So… I am running Windows XP SP3 in a virtual machine. It is a clean copy of Windows XP and it has a valid license key. I had another virtual machine running Windows XP, but I ended up replacing it in the process of troubleshooting issues with the installation process of WinNC (it's installed now). Given that Microsoft has disabled SHA-1 for their Windows Update service in June of this year, I can't automatically update Windows XP anymore. I went to the Update Catalog and downloaded some of the updates, but I was struck with this when I tried to run one: I have tried to look online for a solution, but the only real advice that I could find is that I shouldn't run these installers from a network share (my account is the only account on there, so it's the administrator account, which means that everything is already running with administrator privileges). Does anybody present have any idea as to what could be going on? Also, thank you in advance!

My netbook has the Atheros AR5B125 network card installed inside it, and in Windows 7 it works. However, in Windows XP, any driver i install ends up giving a IRLQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD upon connecting to a network, despite still being able to search for connections. I've seen another user have success with this issue on the forums by installing a driver package meant for Win7, however the same driver that works under 7 for me causes a BSOD in XP, and such is the case with XP Drivers. Is there a way to get this card working properly under XP?

How risky is it to use a Windows XP computer for basic internet use? I know the OS is long abandoned as far as security patches, but what are the real risks of using the internet on it? This obviously wouldn't be my main web browsing device. It would just be from time to time if I want to download an app or something without having to put the installer on a USB drive from my other PC and manually transfer the file. Also, is it a bad thing to leave the device always connected to internet, even when not using it for web browsing? I have a WiFi adapter connected to the device, but I currently leave it disabled. I've only used it once to update direct X on the device since the installer requires an internet connection. I should also note that even if I did use the internet on my XP computer, I wouldn't connect it to any of my accounts. I know it's not recommended to use a Windows XP computer connected to the internet anymore. I'm just curious what exactly could happen if I did, and exactly how dangerous it is.

Summary Windows XP's code that was leaked on 4chan was compiled by YouTube user NTDEV. code was incomplete (things like drivers were missing), but NTDEV managed to compile it. NTDEVs video later got taken down and he privatised his Twitter (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IyW-bwGQTQ). There is still a lot of videos with theme of compiling XP left untouched. Quotes My thoughts Microsoft was a bit greedy here. There is still a reason for that, ofc, with main one being the fact that code was copyrighted by Microsoft. Hello, I am using windows xp and have been having difficulty setting static IP addresses for the network interface adapters. Whenever I set the IP address through the TCP/IP setting and attempt to ping said IP address via the command prompt, the result is always "destination host unreachable". Now, this computer is completely isolated and not meant to connect to any other network (internet, LAN, WAN, etc), so, I am puzzled as to why I can't even get it to ping itself. I've tried a loopback test ping (127.0.0.1) and have used the "identify adapter" utility to verify that the Network adapters are at least able to be recognized, however, beyond that, I've got no other signs of life. What am I doing incorrectly?

Here is some context: My company uses an OLD DOS software for product purchasing, distribution, and sales. As it is a 16-bit software and DOS, it must be run on an XP or older OS. Due to aging hardware and older OS compatibility issues, I have decided to try using Virtual Windows XP machines on more modern hardware (ie. Windows 10 x64 machines.) I have set up the virtual machine as Windows XP Professional x86, enabled networking via NAT to the existing network adapter (Intel Lan Adapter.) I have an internet connection on the virtual machine (can get on Google.com with no problem, but I cannot see the server on the network, or any of the other connected workstations for that matter.) Any words of wisdom?

Hi everyone, I've asked this question before but I thought I'd try my luck again. My dad's home office is a varied Window OS environment. 1 x Windows 98 machine, 2 x Windows XP machines, and 1 x Windows 10 machine. Has anyone had luck networking old and new OS's to a dedicated file server? He currently just transfers data with USB or emails stuff to himself. The old computers can't see the modern computers in Network places. I wanted to set up a dedicated file server for him. I know upgrading is a thought, but he's trained on an ancient piece of software for his work that runs on Windows 98, and he refuses to learn the modern version (CAD blueprinting software). He's extremely stubborn about that. Any thoughts? Thank you.

This is just an example of what can be done with a little tinkering. While the days of running Android on your IPhone are long gone, there are still ways to get around apples heavily locked down system. Even though this is just an emulated system, thus resulting in utterly terrible performance, it does show quite clearly what is possible and may lead to some even cooler developments.
