Hey all, I have some game servers I want to host, among other things, and have no idea whan VPS to go for! I've looked at Digital Ocean, and they don't have the power I need for my budget, and Hetzner have far too high prices for me! My budget is around £35-£45 monthly, and I have mostly ram-intensive operations, mostly being my 3 Minecraft servers I run for friends. I've been looking for a while now, but i'm completely stumped! Any suggestions?

I have a 55GB file that i want to upload to a server where i can give people the link and then them be able to download it. My budget is around £15/$20 a month. I would prefer a 1Gbps port but 100Mbps is fine. I'd imagine i will be using about 10TB of transfer a month maybe less so either a unmetered or high bandwidth connection is best. What would be the best way for me to do this? Would it be just storing it on a service such as Google drive and paying for a bigger drive space? I plan to upload other large files in the future so 200GB+ of space will be required sooner rather than later. Or would the other best way to be to buy a cheap dedicated server or vps? Any recommendations and thanks for your help. Luke.

So this is the scenario: I've got a dedicated server in my room right next to my computer, I've been using it like a normal server for about half a year now but recently I upgraded it's RAM to 16GB's. I've had to reinstall my entire ubuntu OS several times because I had fucked something up so now I want to split my dedicated server into multiple virtual machines, so they're basically VPS's (they'd each have 1 core and about 3GB's). It's possible to SSH into it from my PC and my local network in general, but I want to be able to SSH into my VM's at school too. Been searching on google for a week now and I can't seem to find the right answer, I've tried NAT, and bridged network. The VM is currently using Bridged, it uses port 26 for SSH (Which also works correctly). But when I try to host an apache site on it, I can only access it from my local network, even if I forward it's port on port 27 and change apache's default ports to 27, even with a domain for the site, or when I try accessing it like: http://server-ip:27/ it doesn't work. Does anyone know how to set this up? I want to host a VPS for one of my friends as a mutual cloud server so we can exchange large files of above 50GB's. Thanks in advance!

So I've got a dedicated server at home, and I run several VM's on that for my friends. But, a couple of them want email servers... I have my own email server on a VM (@nikkiedev.com in this case). Each one of my friends have a website. For example, how would I create an email server for every one of their websites. So for example, have an email server for Hidden's vm (@hiddenslair.nl for website hiddenslair.nl) and for tijgersword's vm (@tijgersword.nl for website tijgersword.nl), yet still have my own domain as well on my own VPS? I use CloudFlare DNS, and can easily edit my records. I also have direct access to my Modem/router control panel. I don't use virtual domains, nor virtual users. I just want an email server per website (so per vm) How would I do this?

If you've ever used a VPS, you know that it can be used as a webserver, but now I question; How does the dedicated server, that the VPS is hosted on, host a website on port 80 for all those VPS webservers? Because I have 1 public IP, and I can only set 1 port 80... Can anyone explain this a bit more to me? (Explain like I'm 5 if you can, I'm not that good at networking)

Hi there, I have some work that requires me to use a VPS from the UK. I need to cut the cost from every angle possible hence the cheaper it is the better and I have found a VPS provider (Fasthosts) that gives me 1 vCPU, 512MB RAM and 10GB SSD Storage won't be of any use for me as my work will solely be limited to only 1 or 2 tabs of a browser. I have beginner to intermediate lvl knowledge for Linux based OS's mainly Ubuntu (I am a pretty scrappy person who can get things done and if needed I WILL learn new OS's) My question being: Are there any low ram usage browser that I can use on 512MB of RAM with 1 or 2 tabs opened which also needs to run only 1 chromium extension "Bitwarden" with it? My OS option that Fasthosts provides are: Debian 10 (Pre-Installed) Ubuntu 20.04 CentOS 8 I only have experience with Ubuntu but can work with others, but have NO CLUE which OS will run better on just 512MB of Ram and run a browser with an extension running on it? and also what browser to use that can meet my requirement? I can if there's no other option get the 1GB ram option but can't spend any more money than that. Thank you so much in advance if you can help!!

Hi folks, I do have a question concerning a hobby project which is stuck in my mind for a couple of days and I can't seem to figure out a decent answer for myself. Therefore, I decided to ask for help from the community of my favorite Youtube hardware channel; Linus Tech Tips. Thanks a lot for the help in advance and my apologies if my questions are rather stupid, but I am definitely not a hardware expert myself Project description: So in the last couple of weeks I have been working on a decent collection of Python scripts which automatically scrape a few websites once every 7 days to show the offerings of these websites. I do this to automatically list new product offerings. However, currently these scripts are running on my own computer, where the terminal automatically starts the scripts Saturday. at 00:00. The downside is off course that once I shutdown my computer the scripts won't be able to run. So I thought; its time for an upgrade and I decided to look for a VM/VPS on which I can run the scripts, database, middleware, front-end etc. However, since it is just a hobby project my hardware requirement are very low and the costs of a dedicated VM/VPS are rather expensive for this purpose. Possible solutions A couple of days ago I searched around for a company which provide a VM/VPS and discovered multiple services. However, I just have the idea the prices are rather high for the RAM being offered. Below I listed some numbers of a Dutch company which offers a VPN solution. Couple of days ago I had a discussion with a colleagues about Raspberri Pi's and checked them out; and now I am stuck with the question whether I should just buy a raspberry Pi instead of a VM/VPS since it seems to be way more cost efficient. However, due to my lack of knowledge in hardware I may be missing some crucial points. Therefore, any help is highly appreciated VPN; €10,- a month; 1 CPU core; 1024MB RAM; 50GB SSD; €20,- a month; 2 CPU cores; 4096MB RAM; 150GB SSD; Raspberry Pi; €115,- once; 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, including a case with a cooling fan. TLDR; I want to host a couple of python scripts, a SQL database and a front-end. However, i think VM/VPS prices are rather high for the amount of RAM being offered (see numbers above). Therefore, i have the idea that buying a raspberry Pi may be a good solution. I have no experience in these projects; therefore I am looking for some general opinions on this subject. Thanks in advance

Purchased OVH Australian Server when I started my business. CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1245v5 - 4c/8t - 3.5GHz /3.9GHz RAM: 32GB DDR4 ECC 2133 MHz Disks: SoftRAID 2x2TB It's great to have an affordable on-shore server now but it kind of sucks knowing for the same price I could get the same server but with unlimited bandwidth and with 64 gigs of RAM. I really do hate Australia's internet. D:

Hey guys My neighbour asked me to set up a security camera system for him on a budget. the thing is he would like to be able to view the cameras when outside the home on cellular network but his ISP runs is running a CGNAT so I cant even open up a port and do it that way (which isn't a good idea anyhow terrible privacy). So let me get to the point I am looking for a software that can run on linux with limited resources that supports Live view and any other features like AI detection, phone notifications would be great to have but not a must. I am less worried about the cloud storage part as I can just chuck a HDD on the NVR for cheap. Thanks for the help :)

I am looking at getting a VPS, and I have the choice between a few different operating systems, but I would like to have Debian or Ubuntu. Which one do you recommend? Extra Info: I have very some experience wiht both, I have a Raspberry Pi at home with Pi OS, and a friend of mine has a Ubuntu VPS, on which he currently hosts my very small static website. I sometimes upload new files and then run the command to restart nginx, but that's all. I want to run some interactive websites, with a MongoDB database. Both of the options don't require extra money for the VPS, so that won't help making a choice. Can you help me out?

hello everyone, i hope you are doing great I'm looking forward to start a gaming community of my own, fps games mostly. i want to host servers in old cod games, cs and maybe something else. To do all that i need to rent a sever, but i want a trial to see how things are going before i put my money on it. I did manage to get one server on GCP but only lasting for 5 hours or so. I cant start the trial on my own cos I'm not 18 yet (17) and cant open my own bank account, the credit cards of my parents wont get accepted by google or any other site, they are prepaid cards. I do understand what i'm asking for is quite a big favor and mostly not possible but i have nothing else left to try. have a good day everyone and :)

Hello, I'm currently running a Raspberry Pi 4 4GB with Nextcloud. To access my files from on the go I'm simultanusly running ZeroTier on the Pi and on all my mobile devices. Since I got access to a little Linux VPS (nothing special, 1core/512mb ram/10gb ssd) with its own IPv4 adress I was wondering if it would be possible to somehow set up this VPS-Server that I could access my Cloud without ZeroTier (or any other software) by simply open the IP of the VPS or even better, click on a button on a little website running on the vps (maybe to access mulitple devices such as another raspberry pi). Preferably without routing all the traffic over the VPS since it only has around 100mbit/s connection. I'm using ZeroTier because I can't change any settings on my router (port-forwarding etc.) and stuck with ds-lite. Thank you in advance! Jahtzey

I've recently wanted to start a website and I've been looking at web hosting. I'm new to this side of tech. So I pretty much have no clue what I should or should get. Theres a ton of options out there about web hosting. I have a few questions that I hope some of you may be able to answer or to help steer me in the right direction. 1. Pro's and con's of either getting a normal server that hosts my website or getting a virtual private server for it. Can you use a vps to host a website? Any major differences? 2. Recommendations on where I could look for hosting? Trying to get the best bang for my buck and honestly dont know how much traffic will end up on the website. 3. When server hosting company's write Unlimited traffic, whats the "catch" that they impose? Or do some not have any tricks up their sleeves? 4. How much do the specs of the server matter? I know that how clean and efficient your code can greatly impact the performance. But any way to actually know how well it could run? Would there a way for me to vm test it or something? 5. Are there any other options that I might be missing for web hosting?

Hey guys. I have a little trouble. I am a company president that provides educational services online. My page consists of people flowing in and clicking at least 5pages until they get to the product. Our product consists of people filling out reports online and then printing them for their personal use or saving them on the server which is cloud based as of right now. I'm having trouble because current server has php 5.1 which is not recommended and when upgrading it many bugs surface or objects are not recognized by the updated version of php. Now, I am having this trouble because of money and time since my computer scientist can do the work but has not had the sufficient time. Anyway, this is not the main problem since it has been working fine until right now. But, now we are going to have 10x of usual traffic (e.g. more users, more clicks, more saving, but not uploading). I have been told that I should move the hosting site since it is shared. I need top notch security, upgrading php and the page to react fast. I need to know which server to use VPS or Dedicated for the insurance of functionality and downtime. Should I get the dedicated for a little bit more? Willing to spend up to $150.00 monthly. Where should I look for that kind of server? Who has had the experience with something like this? A tip would be nice. Thank you guys JV

Hi everyone, I'm looking to build my own gaming server / nas. I would to use it to stock my files and be able to have it any where like Dropbox and host my website . Good day, I want to host some virtual (VPS) machines at home. They will run on pretty solid system, and I want to give each of my friends that will use it an IP adress. But there's a problem. I can only have one IP address for each connection, that my ISP will connect me to (and I don't want 564775 Ubiquitis on my walls), and I want one static public IPv4 address for each VPS. I've got an unfinished idea, but I need your opinions, how to make it work. So, I'll buy a cheaper VPS with more IP addresses, and I'll run VPN server there. So I will have more VPN accounts I can use, with forwarding and so on. But the question is, how to connect servers on them? I don't want to install OS on the VPS, and then as usually connect to them, but to solve this somehow by router. I've heard there are some OSs for Routers that are custom and free so everyone can use them, but could you please help me to select one, that will solve this? I can add an virtual MAC IP to every VPS, so every VPS will be visible on the top of the network as a separate device. The only thing is, how to force router to always be connected to these VPNs, and if the virtual device is online, force router to redirect its traffic over a specific VPN? Thank you for anything you post there. Thanks, Peter

So, I've been looking for a vps with lots of RAM but one that's also not to expensive. The best thing I've found so far is Contabo. But I was wondering if you guys know a better vps host by which I mean one that has more or the same amout of RAM at a lower price. The only requirement is that it needs to support docker. I would appriciate it if you'd share such a host it with me if you know about one. -Zwamdurkel

Hey guys, I have rented a VPS (Linux) right now but I'm kinda confused on how to upload files there and run programs on it. I have a plesk license for free but I don't know how to use it. So I downloaded WinSCP and managed to upload files to the server but couldn't run them. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

I just got a Chinese WIFI security camera and I'm not really sure about its security. To my understanding I can setup a separate server for it and then it would be more secure. But I have no idea how to do that , any recommended resources?

https://pebblehost.com/vps I got to know them on the latest video on Linus tech tips video (sponsor). Their VPS plans looks really great and affordable. Also, they don't have any bandwidth cap like in the digital ocean and Linode. My usage is serving images using PHP app for my android wallpaper app. Does anyone has tried their service? please guide me to buy one.
