As the title states, taking a trip to Vancouver early December, what are some must do activities for my time there? I'll be staying very near downtown Vancouver, already looking at some activities at Stanley park and a couple of museums.

Hello, On Wednesday I'm going to put my name down for a 6800 XT non-reference card at one of the local stores (Canada Computers or Memory Express) here in Vancouver. I've been following the news and know that I'll likely be waiting for weeks, if not months, before I get my hands on one. At this point I don't really mind which of the 6800 XT AIB partners I end up with, I just want whichever one is available the earliest. The issue is retailers do not allow backordering this way, I cannot just say "I'll take the first 6800 XT that is available, regardless of the brand". I have to put my name down for a specific one. I'm therefore trying to do a bit of research in terms of which AIB partners will be manufacturing 6800 XT's for distribution in Canada. I'm not sure if it is worth researching which AIB partners have historically had highest launch or near-launch numbers, and put my name down for one near the top. These are unprecedented times so maybe looking back is a waste of time, but right now I kinda feel like I'm blind and trying to pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey-GPU. Even retailers do not know which AIB partners will be supplying Canada, and they go on sale in under 2 days. In fact, one of the bigger Vancouver retailers just told me that due to such low expected supply and limited information, even those who line up super early, or camp out overnight, might not even be able to put their name down on the back order list. So doing so might be a complete waste of time (anyone thinking of doing this should call the store tomorrow). Any comments or thoughts to help my research would be greatly appreciated. My daughter is working for a charity for the summer in Vancouver (East Vancouver) and her Dell laptop (long out of warranty) is giving her a warning that he TPM device is not detected and the dreaded BSoD. Six months ago Windows corrupted on her badly and I got it going by full wipe and reinstall. I have no idea what she was specifically doing at the time of the failure. She doesn't have deep pockets, we are looking for some reputable repair shop around there that won't rip her off?

I want to do some casual gaming in my free time and pretty confused between ps4 or budget gaming PC. Now I already have a laptop that is capable of doing college things, so the purpose of the PC is only for gaming. Is this build is good enough? Or should i get ps 4 instead?

Just over a year ago my wife and I (both early 30's) decide we had had enough of our day jobs and we would like to see the world. She was a lawyer doing general practice and I was the engineering and design lead at a MSP/hosting/ISP in New Zealand. Since then we have been traveling though Central and South America, Europe and have started on North America. Due to the work exchange program we have managed to both get work visas for Canada. We decided that we would like to try Vancouver, BC. At this point we have no idea what areas we would like to stay in, we have no jobs lined up and have never been to Canada before, which is all part of the fun. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations in the way of resources for finding accommodations, jobs and the other things we would need?

Its now Friday afternoon at the end of my first full week in Vancouver and I am ready for a drink. So far I have spent several billion years standing in queues to get government numbers. Had to give up my New Zealand drivers license so that I could wait for a new BC one to arrive. Talked to heaps of recruiters who don't seem to understand that, no I don't just want the first job you can put me into even if its more money because it will be really boring. (Is everyone here money crazy?). Been to LTX and then spent 2.5hours on buses to get back. And opened a bank account (with no money or ID because they aren't allowed to take a copy of my ID??????). There have been some good bits though. I have had several of the best coffees I have had in years! Found an apartment in the city. Talked to some interesting people. Been to LTX (Cheers to the guys that gave me a lift!). And rediscovered my drinking problem. So with all that in mind, Where do we all meet up for some beers in the weekends and talk IT crap? EDIT: (Also if anyone is hiring network/server guys and isn't crazy, hit me up.)

Hello everyone, So my building has Novus, and because of that I got a good deal from Shaw: $50 for 300Mbps. One problem, it's not 100% reliable, sometimes it drops connections and router keeps resetting (asked for the new one again, in case it would solve it). Seems like Shaw does the restarting/reseting part from their side... Anyway, it's summer sale and Novus has the $35 for 100Mbps 1y promo. Want to know how reliable they are, and what's your experience?

As a foreigner, where to start to look for a job in Vancouver/Canada? If you're not familiar with the criteria selection of some companies, this question may sound strange. I mean, just go online and google "job sites canada", or something! In fact, I've been through this process already. I went online and applied to some jobs. But the thing is, many companies explicitly say that they will give preference to Canadian citizens (which is only fair if you ask me, it's their country after all). Which makes the process a little bit tricky if you want to immigrate to Canada, like me, and don't have an specific education highly required by the government. So, does anyone have an idea of places that are friendly with foreign applicants? I'm looking for something in the creative industry, international relations or tourism area. Or in other words, my goal here is to find people telling me things like "hey, where I work we hire international people, this is the name of the place, take a look!". Thanks guys!

From what I can tell, there are no direct flights from where I live to Vancouver for the weekend of LTX. It looks like my best option is to fly into Seattle, then find transportation to Vancouver from there. Same thing but in reverse for the return. What are some good transportation options for three adults to get from Seattle International Airport to downtown Vancouver in the same day as our arrival?

So ill be moving to vancouver for the next few years and i was wondering if i could get a suggestion on laptops because my current is now officially as good as a paper weight also from what I have researched there is massive price gaps between tech in Canada and USA (Is is cheaper to try and buy from amazon.com and try and get it shipped across or would it make no difference) my budget is about 1500-1800 USD and i am looking for a 8th gen laptop that can handle college gaming and a bit of content creation. I have checked out memory express and newegg didn't really find anything that caught my eye any help would be nice. Also thanks alot for any advice and guidance given

In sad news for fans of the Dead Rising Series, it appears that the Dead Rising franchise may be dead for a while as Capcom has decided to close the Capcom Vancouver office (formerly Blue Castle Games). Capcom has officially stated that they are cancelling development of projects in Vancouver and concentrating on major titles in Japan. Not really much to say or in the article, but kind of sad that they are closing shop... If you are going to LTX 2018 there is plenty of other ways of getting to the convention other than driving or flying. How about by train! For LTX 2017 I took the train using Amtrak from Fargo, ND to Vancouver, BC with a layover connection in Seattle. The train ride was around 36 hours or so for me. One-way. But I had the vacation time, and the experience was more pleasant than flying. Mainly because I'm a bigger guy. Reasons to Travel by Train An average coach class Amtrak seat is bigger than an average first-class airline seat, and it reclines. You get to see some of the greatest views by train other than by flying. Refueling and restocking stops (smoke stops) so you can stretch your legs. ALWAYS stay next to the train or you WILL be left behind and you will NOT be given a refund. I've witnessed people being left behind myself. They cry like babies. Don't be a stupid crybaby. In some cases (including mine) traveling by train was much cheaper than flying. For me, it was 1/2 the cost of an airline seat ticket. Most Amtrak trains travel at or more than 79MPH. (You will see slower speeds going through rough terrain like mountains.) Cons Longer travel time. My travel time included an 8-hour layover in Seattle. Which was during the day. So I went and saw some of Seattle while waiting for my connection. Got to see the Space Needle and Boeing's Museum of Flight. MUCH longer travel time if using VIA rail. (Tracks are not as up to par as America's and therefore have a maximum of 55MPH on long distance Canadian routes ) To be clear this is for people who have the time to travel long distances by train. The journey time is much longer than flying. But if traveling more than 600 miles it is much faster than driving as the train doesn't stop at a hotel due to driver fatigue. It switches drivers at certain stops and continues the journey. This sounds complicated and a waste of time but again it is a great way to travel. Once you get to Pacific Central Station in Vancouver, which is served by both Canada's VIA Rail and America's Amtrak, it's less than a half a block away from Translink's Skytrain, Expo Line, Main-Street Science World Station. Pacific Central Station to Science World Station.pdf From there you travel north to Waterfront Station. Skytrain System.pdf Transfer to Skytrain's Canada Line and make your way south to Lansdowne Station which puts within 5 blocks of the Richmond Olympic Oval. Now you can either walk or take the C94 connecting bus to directly in front of the Richmond Olympic Oval. Science World to Richmond Olympic Oval.pdf Your only concern now is a hotel. Don't worry there's a map for that. It is literally right next to a Skytrain station and is reasonably priced. http://www.themethotel.com/ This hotel is still viable even after changing LTX venues this year. Just a tad bit longer travel by Skytrain. For American citizens only. YOU MUST HAVE A PASSPORT OR YOU WILL BE DENIED ENTRY INTO CANADA. Using any mode of transportation to travel internationally requires your passport. Canadians need no worry if you travel by VIA. How is this possible. Amtrak is an American rail service. But provides international train service to select cities in Canada including Vancouver. All you need is your passport and a reason. ALWAYS BE HONEST WITH BORDER SECURITY AND DECLARE ANYTHING THAT THEY MAY BE INTERESTED IN IF YOU FEEL IT VIOLATES THE DECLARATION FORM GIVEN TO YOU. I told them that I was going to a tech convention and that I had a bag of beef jerky. Meat is banned from being entered into Canada. But since it was dead cooked meat I was ok. Nothing organically fresh is allowed to cross the border. (Unless it was something you caught while hunting or fishing.) Either from America to Canada, or Canada to America. Unfortunately due to credit card debt that I used on my last trip to LTX. Spent damn near a $1000 bucks. NOT including the cost of traveling by train because I got them points yo. I won't be able to go to LTX 2018. But I feel that taking the train is a much under-appreciated mode of travel in North America and deserves to be taken into consideration when traveling. Hy Guys! I would just like to ask for advice on Fraser Valley, specifically Abbotsford, because of my job I am moving to BC from Ontario (Toronto) in the last week of April. I will be mainly traveling outside of the province to do my job but I will have 3 or 4 projects a month (hopefully) in Vancouver. Would it be doable to live in Abbotsford and not spend lots of hours in traffic?
