Hey there fellow PC enthusiasts. I'm looking for a direct upgrade to my current system specs but the more i look things up, the less i get an idea of what to do. I am not looking to build an entirely new system but simply trying to figure out if it would be best to upgrade my CPU (and mobo + RAM) first or upgrade my GPU. I've been researching for months and can't seem to find any conclusion, which is why i am asking here. (Reddit wasn't very helpful either...) Current specs: intel core i7-8700K @ 4.7Ghz all core be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 2x 8GB DDR4-2400 MSI GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X Trio (11GB VRAM) be quiet! Straight Power 11 850W 80+Gold Any help is very much appreciated. Edit: I am located in Belgium and looking for the most cost-effective direct upgrade. I don't really have a set budget, but if it proves to be better to build a new system and sell my current one (or components), i will probably need some recommendations around the €1500 mark. Edit 2: Dual monitors - 24" 1080p144 + 27" 1440p180 Edit 3: €1000 pricepoint also in consideration.

I'm looking at scratch-building a PC to use at home to study cybersecurity and in the future when I go to college for computer science. I want it to have blazing-fast storage and plenty of RAM so it runs flawlessly for day-to-day use and also so it can handle running Virtual Machines, dual booting with several OS's, and anything else I may want to experiment with. I want to build it now so I can use it the next few months, but it'll be about 2 years before I go to college and start using it heavily, and I might want to upgrade it then if it makes sense. I've got two builds I'm pretty happy with, one AMD and one Intel, both 6 cores/12 threads, and I'm trying to decide between them. The AMD has the potential to add a second PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, and the ability to potentially be upgraded to a Ryzen 9 5950X with 16 cores/32 threads in several years. The Intel is limited to a single PCIe 4.0 SSD, with any additional drives being PCIe 3.0. Additionally, I believe the biggest upgrade it could get would be to an i9-11900K which is only 8 cores/16 threads. It does however have integrated graphics, and I didn't want to buy a graphics card soon because this computer won't primarily be for gaming. Now frankly 1TB of PCIe 4.0 speed storage is proably overkill, and if I did want to upgrade it I could just get a 2 TB stick, so I don't know how important that is. The more important question is how much does the upgrade path matter? Because besides core count I'd rather go with Intel, but AMD having upgrade potential to 16 gives me pause. I've heard more cores matters more for things like productivity, so how useful will 8/12/16 cores really be for running Virtual Machines, DAWs, moving large files or other intensive tasks I might want to do? Advice appreciated. No need to budget for peripherals or monitor or anything. Just looking for the tower here. Suggestions on a decent cooler for overclocking appreciated. ~$100 Also I know nothing about graphics cards, what would be good for this rig? (willing to spend $400-600 when prices are normal again) 1440p & VR would be cool if that's possible. Pretty happy with my builds at this price, but am willing to save more if I'm missing something important. Budget (including currency): unimportant Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Multi-purpose, gaming but also college. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Relevant Computer parts: ___________Current CPU: i7-10700k ___________Current GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER GAMING X TRIO ___________Current RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2x16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 ___________Current Motherboard: MSI MPG Z490 GAMING CARBON WIFI ___________Current CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 ___________Upgrade Path: i7-11700k ___________Upgrade Path: Any 3080 GPU ___________Upgrade Path: KEEP CURRENT RAM ___________Upgrade Path: KEEP CURRENT MOTHERBOARD ___________Upgrade Path: KEEP CURRENT CPU COOLER Hello, I have already checked via the motherboard compatibility tab for the MPG Z490 GAMING CARBON WIFI. I see that I can swap out my current CPU (i7-10700k) for an Intel i7-11700k. CONTEXT: I am hoping to buy an NVIDIA 3080 of some type, but to get the full performance of that particular GPU, I need PCIe Gen4, of which I've heard is only possible with Intel CPU's of 11th generation or higher. I currently am using an Intel 10th generation CPU. I read that I can use the i7-11700K on this motherboard, and that it will unlock the ability to use the motherboard's supported PCIe Gen4 lanes, which are currently locked at speeds of PCIe Gen3, given that i'm using an Intel 10th generation CPU and not an 11th generation CPU. However, I'm unsure about a few things if I were to put the i7-11700k onto this board. Please try to answer each question below. Take your time, I know it's a lot of questions, and I'm in less of a rush to get them answered, because I seek as detailed and complete responses as possible. Question 0): If I upgrade my CPU from the i7-10700K to the i7-11700K, can I use PCIe Gen4? ............Question 1.1): Is the PCIe Gen4 unlocked automatically when I insert the i7-11700K into the motherboard, or do I need to download a specific Motherboard driver downloaded to unlock it? ........................Question 1.1.1): If I need a specific driver to enable PCIe Gen4, which one is it? ............Question 1.2): If the i7-11700k is installed does this motherboard support overclocking for the CPU, or can I only run the CPU at it's default speeds? ........................Question 1.2.1): If the i7-11700k is installed does this motherboard support overclocking of RAM (XMP)? ........................Question1.2.2): If the i7-11700k is installed does this motherboard support overclocking the GPU (NVIDIA)? ............Question 1.3): If I can use PCIe Gen4, can I use all of the potential PCIe Gen4 performance or do I lose some performance or capability? ........................Question 1.3.1): I am currently overclocking my 32GB of RAM to their advertised XMP specs. Will I be able to overclock them at those speeds using the XMP auto overclock (with INTEL i7-11700K) Installed?/ ............ Question 1.4): If I have an Intel i7-11700k installed, my current RAM installed, and an 3080 Graphics card installed, am I still able to use PCIE Gen4 for each component, or if a partial yes/no, would you happen to know which components are more likely to run at PCIe Gen4 speeds with each other and which will not? ........................Question 1.4.1): If I have an Intel i7-11700k installed, my current RAM installed, and an 3080 Graphics card installed, am I still able to overlock them all, or if a partial yes/no, would you happen to know which components are more likely to work overlocked with each other?

is it worth it to upgrade from a R5 2600 to R5 5600 plus another set of 8gbx2 ram (total 32gb) or R7 5700x? will I see a huge performance boost? or going intel might be a better choice? I live in Japan and my budget is around $220 (30,000YEN) Current System: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QypCVw -second monitor is a portable 1080p 60hz monitor in portrait mode. Games I usually play: Escape from Tarkov COD MW2 Apex Legend Hunt Showdown I am also a game dev using Unity + VS Code.

To clarify, this is the first loop i would have ever done so im trying to work out exactly what i need without the knowledge or experience of how to do it myself or what to get. I was looking at corsairs “design your loop” and i was a bit confused with some of the components and power usages, i know im going to need to upgrade the psu especially adding a 3080 ti into the mix (i wouldve gone 3090 but i love my case and it will not fit in there apparently?). What size power supply would you recommend? And have you got any suggestions on what to charge out? Cpu? Motherboard?

First off, I do have a psu capable of driving a 7800x (AX860) and a full custom loop for cooling it. Heat is not really an issue here. Both chips will live in either ROG, prime, taichi or TUF boards of similar quality ie. the 300-400 CAD 250-350 usd range, though a decent z370 board for sub 250 CAD would be doable, driving down the cost a lot. With all that out of the way the 7820x is actually cheaper, more upgradeable, more interesting and all around fun to play with. I also buy into an HEDT platform. But it seems an 8700k may actually perform better... so what do you think? X299 or Z370? I'm strongly leaning towards X299. Please tag anyone with either experience with both chips, a possible angle im missjng or general mobo knowledge. @MageTank @done12many2 @dave_k @Princess Cadence @CUDA_Cores

I just got this PC just like 5 months ago but I wasn't satisfied with the performance. I know I should've saved up some money before purchasing a much more better CPU. Right now I'm planning on having this old parts, i'll give it to my girlfriend for her workstation. So my specs are: i3-8100 8GB ram 2666mhz Rx 570 4gb Thermaltake 500W PSU Asus H370-f ASUS VX278H Gaming Monitor - 27" FHD I would really appreciate any feedback from you guys. And if you could in which order do i need to purchase the parts.

Hello everyone, in the next year I want to upgrade my gaming pc. Till this day it never struggled to do anything, but I want to upgrade it because I feel it's getting old and in the future will struggle with what I want from it. I'd like to play with ray tracing on and better performance on my Valve Index. 1. Budget & Location I think I can spend 1200-1800 € for it. I live in Italy. 2. Aim Like I said before, I want to play with ray tracing on (maybe 4K when I upgrade my monitor) 60 to 120 FPS, and better performance on VR (Valve Index). 3. Monitors Now I run two monitor, one Asus VG248QE 24'' FHD @120 Hz and one old Dell 1440x900 monitor. I plan on upgrading to a new pair of monitor, but I don't know any model that fit my requirements. For my primary I'd like something 2k or 4k, 120hz but only 24", cause 27" I think will be too much big. For the secondary something that has good color, full hd. My current specs: PC Specs Case: NZXT NOCTIS 450 Black&Red MOBO: ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K @4.00GHz Cooler: NZXT Kraken x52 GPU: ASUS Strix NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8Gb PSU: Cooler Master G750M HDD: WD Black 2 TB + WD Black 3 TB SSD: Samsung SSD 970 EVO 500 GB + Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250 GB OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Primary Monitor: Asus VG248QE 24'' FHD 144 Hz Secondary Monitor: Dell 1440x900 Gaming Gear Headset: Sennheiser HD598 Special Edition Microphone: Razer Seiren Pro Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Chroma V2 Mouse: Razer Ouroboros Mouse pad: Razer Goliathus Control VR Valve Index So, what should I upgrade? I thought first to upgrade CPU and MOBO, I prefer to stay with Intel. Should I wait the 10th gen or go with the 9th? I take any suggestion. Then I thought one the GPU, same thing, wait for the RTX 3xxx? Then, PSU? Monitor? I'm open to any suggestion!

Okay, so here we are. I have a 24 inch 1080p ASUS Monitor with 144hz and 1ms response time aaannnnddd a 24 inch Vizio 1080p 60hz TV .. The TV sucks. The monitor is Eh, 144hz is nice. I never thought I would want anything else after I built my 1st PC a year ago and then the bug bit me .. I want UPGRRRAAADESS. So upgraded my system completely from i5 4690k - air cooled, z97 asrock pro4 mobo, 16gb DDR3 and a 1060 to this --> https://pcpartpicker.com/list/DHGXCy I love my new system and have torn away from MOBAs and light games to more AAA titles, currently playing Destiny 2 and Assassins Creed Origins. My system runs them great. I thought I might like FPS games but honestly I like them more on console, even though after playing so much PC i get motion sickness from the terrible refresh rates. Okay now you know what I'm working with and where I came from: I want to buy a new display but I don't want to get something my PC wont be able to perform well with, I guess its future proofing. So here is my brain on these different decisions: Should I go Ultrawide and get rid of the dual set up. Ultrawide = more clean set up to me which I'm partial to. 4k monitor - can my computer even run games well on this? Is there an ultrawide that is affordable and can my computer run one? 1440p - Can my computer push enough pixels to go to an ultra or should I buy a bigger 27inch or even 35inch? 1080p - Should I match my current 144hz one and just go for that? I want to experience better colors and resolution. As you can tell, I am torn. Ultrawide or dual 4k or 1440p Cost vs Bang for buck These are the things plaguing my mind, lend a helping hand, give me your advice.

Welcome to the 53rd LTT Build-Off! The rules and previous contests can be found here. Thank you to @MEC-777 and @f22luke for suggesting the challenge. Budget: $500 for upgrades Speakers/Headphones: No Mouse: No Keyboard: No Monitor: No Submissions: August 29th through September 4th Voting: September 5th through 11th This is Part 2 of "Upgrade Path," and you will therefore need to upgrade the winning entry from the last contest, which was made by @TopplesS: Essentially, this means that you have $500 and need to use this PC as a base. Transform it into a killer gaming rig (but do you have enough watts in the PSU? Or do you need larger storage for more games? Upgrade at your discretion). Anything not upgraded with that $500 should come directly from this previous part list. Please tell us why you picked certain upgrades in your post. Thanks and good luck!
