Hello, my dearest Lithuanian tech tips, I have got an offer for uni and accepted it, into comp science(hurray), I have a laptop but need a tablet for note taking and stuff. My budget is below 250 USD/euro as I am in Europe and no baller. The specs I need are: A decent CPU, 6GB+ of RAM, 64GB+ of storage, over 9 inches , active stylus support? The options i found are: Realme Pad Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 Lenovo Tab m10 plus but only 4gb of ram Lenovo tab p11/plus Honor pad 8 Xiaomi redmi pad A blackview tablet(my dad had a blackview phone and it worked ages so its a decent brand) I need active stylus support because I want to take notes obviously, but found out there are apps with palm rejection, which is essentially what I need, but the question remains, Do I need an active stylus if there's palm rejection involved in the apps themselves, like Nebo or can i choose the bottom 2 choices also as a potential buy and just buy a passive stylus? Could thee help out in this question.

Hey, i am currently looking for a tablet (android) that is suitable for note taking and annotating large pdf files. I have kind of fallen in love with the Lenovo P11 Pro 2nd Gen, but the fact that the pen that goes with it is out of stock since it was announced more than six months ago i have little hope of ever being able to buy that and i am kind of worried that long reading and staring at the same page for a while might degrade the OLED panel fairly quickly. The non Pro Version would be an alternative, but no one seems to know what pen works with it, since people have claimed that only certain version of Lenovos Precicion Pen 2 will work... (For some reason there are 3 different once, all with the same name...) The Yoga Tab 13 also has Stylus support and being bigger would be great for note taking. My main problem is Stylus support is kind of broad thing. Some are really really bad, others are great. My general premise so far has been that active Pens using AES 2.0 should be all the same, since thats a wacom standart apparently. They should also all work with the same pens. Lenovos Precision Pen 2 is apparently AES 2.0, and according to lenovo it works with the Yoga Tab 13, however lenovos sales team was unable to confirm any of that. They basically just told me that they are all perfect and i should get whatever i want... Do you have any other recommendation that i should consider or some insights you want to share with me? I appreciate every bit of information on this since none of the manufacturers seem to give out these information on there own... The last time i used something with a stylus was a Lenovo Thinkpad yoga running windows, and it was terrible.

Hey everyone, I'll start off with a little background: I am a junior in college, a computer science major. With classes back in person I am taking a lot more notes but I am quickly filling notebooks with these higher level classes. I see a lot of people using ipads and other tablets to take notes. I wanted to move towards something like this. In high school I was provided a 2 in 1 from HP. Keep in mind this was a budget one from 2015 and the notetaking experience was awful. That has left a bad taste in my mouth but I want to give them another look. So basically does anyone have any recommendations for a good note taking tablet with stylus? All it needs to do is take notes and it would be nice if it could program as well. Coding isn't really a heavy task honestly. I don't need power out of it I have a razer blade I use for everything else. I need it to be a great bang for the buck sort, budget isn't a huge issue but I am a college student. Just one that is pretty good at taking notes and is good value for the money. I have been looking into review for the surface go 2 and it seems decent. I saw a Samsung tablet as well I was going to look at it. The iPad I know is amazing at it but that price tag is very high and I am totally non apple. Any advice would help a ton. Usually I would do my own research but midterms approach. Thank you.

Hey guys, so it seems I should retire my surface pro 2 for a new 2-in-1 I was looking at the HP spectre x360 with an i5 and 8gb ram, looks great for my needs (would've preferred 16gb but they never go with i5s ) It seems perfect, but it seems like it doesn't work with an active pen. Now I am not a massive stylus user, but I do need it sometimes to jot down a diagram or formula while taking notes in onenote I went to a local computer store where they had this laptop and asked one of the workers if it would work with a pen and he replied that of course it would, since it's a touchscreen I don't put to much trust in that guy... But I don't see why it shouldn't be the case. I heard there is no Active pen support but honestly I don't need that, like I said, simple diagrams and formulas occasionally How can I try out if the model in the store can support a pen? Do you think it will? I have a surface pro 2 pen, should i try to see if that works? Thanks for the help to the clueless dude

I have been thinking about getting a new laptop for a while, but since my dreams and hopes for what it can do for me have changed, it has become increasingly difficult to find a solution that can fit my requirements. Background: I'm currently an informatics student finishing up my bachelor degree and keep finding myself in situations where I wish to sketch out a model or some concept, either to keep an overview of the current project, or explain to someone else how I imagine a solution could work. For this I would really like the solution to have stylus support, to help sketching down the ideas without having to open up some modelling software or taking pictures of pen-and-paper sketches, to send to other people working with me on the projects. I should probably also note that we use some heavier programs in some of the projects and I have found the Intel Core i5 4210H in my current Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G to be rather lacking. So I was thinking about perhaps getting a quad-core for my next laptop. Probably not surprisingly I also play some games, mostly on my desktop at home, but it's also nice coming over to a friend's house to play some there. We mostly play Overwatch, Elder Scrolls Online or Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, so that might give some indication of what GPU would be recommended. On my current laptop the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M has also been rather lacking, giving framerates in probably the low 20's, as well as random stutter/lag in Overwatch, even at minimum settings, making playing anything other than Torbjörn a challenge, even in quick play. I have been wondering if this might be caused by the CPU, but that's just a hypothesis at this point. TL:DR Requirements (hopes/dreams): Touch screen with stylus support Quad-core CPU (Or at the very least a decent upgrade from the Intel Core i5 4210H) GPU that can run Overwatch, Elder Scrolls Online and Playerunknown's Battlegrounds at decent framerates As for a budget, I currently don't have a very hard line. I am okay with paying more for a more elegant solution, but I'd like to keep it within reasonable boundaries. Now, I have been looking around, and the closest I have come to an all-in-one solution might be the Microsoft Surface Book, but 3k $ seems quite pricy, even though the solution is elegant. And it still only got a 965m GPU, and as far I can tell a dual-core i7 (?). So I wanted to pick the wonderful brains here at the LTT forum to see if we can Frankenstein some solution to this project, whether it is a laptop and tablet combo, an AIO solution or maybe a laptop with an external GPU case (I have a spare NVIDIA GTX 780 that could go in such a case)? Thanks for all replies, I'm very curious to see your suggestions!

The Lenovo Yoga 720 is compatible with the new Wacom G13 pens that should be coming out soon, along with the Lenovo Active Pen 2. I have been looking all over for a release date everywhere, but I'm not turning anything up. Does anyone know anything about the G13 or a similar pen that is compatible with the 720 and offers similar pressure levels? I would like a programmable button or 2

I am looking for an affordable touch laptop/tablet (Hybrid). My main requirement is that it must have a Physical keyboard and a stylus. I would be mainly running MS office (For presentations and stuff) and One Note(to take notes in class). My Budget is around $500. I really prefer "Detachables" as in where I can leave the keyboard at home and use just the tablet. I did consider the new Lenovo Yoga Book but the lack of a physical keyboard makes it a big no. Suggestions would be great.

I quite like the idea of being able to use a stylus/pen with my laptop, partly for drawing/writing and also to keep fingerprints on the screen to a minimum. I'm struggling to find any info on whether or not my screen supports the use of a stylus, as well as if there are any decent "universal" stylus' out there. Laptop is a HP Pavilion x360 u101-na. Anyone know much about using a stylus/pen with touchscreens? Thanks for any help and info in advance

I am in need of a new laptop for uni work. I'm terrible with organizing paper notes, so i need to take notes on a computer, however most of my notes is mathematical formulas which cannot be typed out. So I'm looking for a laptop that the keyboard can be flipped around and used tablet style with a pen so i can write notes. The closest thing I can find is the new surface book, however it is $3,000 + here in Australia which is ridiculous as it is more than my desktop. Also i7 6th gen preferred, i know gen 7 is out but it is too expensive currently. Any suggestions?

I bought a Dell Inspiron 13 7378 this summer (sadly right before a similar model with an 8th gen i5 came out, sigh) along with a Wacom Bamboo Ink stylus, which only worked in MPP mode (Microsoft Pen Protocol, formerly N-Trig) and coming from an Intuos Pro which I just couldn't get used to, I was disappointed by the lack of adjustments, such as only having one button configurable, and not having sensitivity adjustments, also the build quality was shoddy, the eraser button fell off multiple times, and after a while the button stopped working completely. I'd like to replace it with a new surface pen but information online is hard to come by. I know it uses MPP so that shouldn't be an issue, but does anyone know if the new tilt functionality will be available on non-surface devices such as mine? I saw on the Eve V forums that they thought it would be easy for them to add compatibility with existing devices, but I'm worried dell won't care. Lastly, will the surface app allow me to adjust more settings, such as sensitivity and remapping of the side buttons, with the surface pen? I tried using it with the Bamboo Ink, but it said I had to have a surface device. Sorry for the long post, I just have a lot of questions lol, also if this is in the wrong place, sorry for that

Hi all, I was wondering if it was possible to get around the limitation so many laptops seem to have now where they have a touch screen but no digitizer for active pen support. I was wondering if some third party manufacturers made styli that could overcome this by sending all the pressure information via bluetooth (this howtogeek explains they should exist: https://www.howtogeek.com/177376/not-all-tablet-styluses-are-equal-capacitive-wacom-and-bluetooth-explained/ ) So I see there is a model by Wacom for the iPad, but has anyone seen anything like that for windows laptops? I hope someone has the answer.

So i bought my xps 9350 a while ago thinking that I didnt need any 2 in 1 functionality but as of recently i realized having a stylus with my laptop would be amazing (yes I have a touch screen) I hate the rubber tipped gigantic stylus' and i was wondering if there was good stylus (similar to the surface pen) that would go well with a touch screen laptop??

My HP spectre laptop ( HP Spectre x360 13-ae0xx ) from 2018 seems to always skip and stutter when I'm writing things with my pen (a wacom bamboo stylus). It does this 50/50 of the time I'd say and is especially frustrating when I'm writing things in class etc. Sometimes it works beautifully and other times I can barely write a word without it cutting out and looking like the words are broken up. I attached a pic of me writing in onenote 2016. Are there solutions to this? Or do I need to use some other software? How can I make my pen stop skipping and stuttering?

So I'm interested in buying the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (2nd hand), however the pen is way too costy for me and I'm looking for the cheapest possible active pen alternative. Pressure sensitivity is required though. I want sth that will have the same functionality (pressure sensitivity, tilt and high-precision). I own an Acer Switch 3 which has an "Acer Active Pen" but I'm not sure whether or not it will work with the MS Surface pro 4. If that works I'll just keep it and use it, but if it doesn't what else could I obtain with minimal price? Here's the pen I own: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/model/NP.STY1A.009 Thanks in advance!

help asus zenbook ux303LN active pen support?
George. posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hey, so I'm looking at a second hand asus zenbook ux303LN but it comes with no stylus and I need one for precision purposes. The question is does it support any active pens since that would require it to have a digitizer (from what I've gathered so far). Normal capacitive pens won't cut it, I'm interested in active ones. https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-ZenBook-UX303LN/ -
Hi I recently purchased a lenovo yoga c740 and I was wondering if anyone knows whether it supports pens that have tilt functionality. I know it does support Lenovos pressure sensitive active pen and active pen 2 styluses as well as some wacom pens but I can't seem to find any indication online as to whether it also supports styluses, like the lenovo pen pro, which have tilt functionality.

Hello everyone. I am having an issue that is almost driving me crazy. I have an HP Laptop (Spectre X360 to be exact, from late 2015) with Windows 10 64-bit installed and a resistive stylus that is specifically made for that series of laptops. Normally, if the tip of the stylus is brought closer to the screen, it acts as a cursor. In order to create input with it, one needs to touch it to the screen and apply some amount of pressure. The problem is, from time to time. I get this weird problem with the stylus where it creates input without touching the screen whatsoever. I just hold it static and it creates random lines. In the video, you can see exactly what I am talking about - https://streamable.com/qgio08 This stylus came with no drivers or any kind of installation media. So far, I have tried to "uninstall" the device from the device manager and restart the computer hoping it would fix it. Which didn't work. Interestingly enough, if I lock the computer with Win+L combination, it behaves normally there. So, at this point I am fairly positive that it is a software related issue. But I have no software that could remotely be interfering with the stylus operation whatsoever. My touchscreen is also disabled and even if it didn't it should not be interfering with the stylus anyway. The only "fix" to this issue is either going back to the restore point I created earlier but this sometimes doesn't work either. Another way (which has always worked the few times I tried it) is "Resetting" the PC which removes all the software. Am I right in assuming that there must be a certain folder somewhere that has files controlling stylus behaviour? If yes, where is this folder located? My interaction with HP Tech Support was egregious as they stated firmly that there is no such folder, some agents even went so far as to claim that some device my neighbours using may be "interfering" with the stylus which is a silly thing to claim since it goes away on a freshly reset account. At this point, I am totally clueless regarding how to fix this abomination. I would more than appreciate if anyone gives me specific instructions as to how I should diagnose this issue as I do not want to reset the PC every few months. The frustrating part is that I could not get any specific hints on how I could move further. Let's say I create a new user account where this issue doesn't happen. How should I compare this with the existing account to determine what is the difference between those 2 that causes this? If I need to provide more information regarding my computer or anything else, please let me know. Thanks to everyone in advance. UPDATE: I created a new local user account and tried the stylus behaviour there. Interestingly inside OneNote it behaves normally, but outside of it it goes berserk again. It seems the pen "chooses" to misbehave on certain settings... Another program that I have never seen the pen "misbehave" is the small sticky note app that comes natively with Windows 10. I hope these clues can help me find the right way.

Hello everyone, I was trying to fix the HP active stylus palm rejection lag that plagues many owners, the one where after using the stylus, any touch inputs via a finger would be ignored for 2 seconds. I stumbled upon this post on the HP support forums and decided to update the driver give it a try. I didn't realise that this update was specific to only that model of HP Spectre. Now my touch screen is completely unusable via touch input or stylus input. I would like to roll back to the previous version of the driver, but I am unable to find it. the support page for my model of HP Spectre x360 does not have any pen firmware so I am a bit lost. How can I fix my touchscreen?? My specific model is the HP Spectre x360 - 13-ac040ca. I am desperate, please help!

Hey there, for a while now, I'm searching for a laptop/tablet/hybrid without luck. I know this is due to my "very special" wishes. For reference: at the moment I use an MacBook Pro (13-inch, retina, late 2012, 128GB SSD, 8GB RAM). (It was cheap, so no Apple fanboy ) At university many of my fellow students use Surfaces, iPads and similar devices. Features I would like it to have: Stylus (without battery/rechargeable is ok (like Apple Pencil)) Enough graphic performance to not "melt" while playing some games (play Overwatch at min. settings?) Full Linux support Enough storage to run Window and Linux (shouldn't be a problem?) For Laptop: (RGB) backlight? Full HD/2K display long battery life 13-inch Display? I think the XPS series looks good but the lack of stylus support makes me think about other solutions. For price I would like something not too expensive but I will think about it. (please feel free to suggest something expensive) For shipping: I live in Germany. Thanks for your answers/suggestions!

Hi guys a student here, gonna start college in a few weeks and need a windows laptop for using mostly one note, anki and other study stuff. I have a special preference for touch displays. The touch screen is going to help in markong, doodling and other stuff and please leave those windows 10s laptops because they are not available in my country yet in the asia pecific region. And the budget is around 450 - 500 usd. Thank you in advance for help.
