I have a kingston NV1 SSD 256GB, usage after a year later.
FoxyZey posted a topic in Storage Devices
My SSD after exactly almost a year of usage now has it's health on 80%, i know NV1 is not that good of a model from kingston but i am trying to save it as long as i can since buying ssd's is way too expensive here. Is 80% after a year of usage (Installed windows multiple times, downloading stuff directly to it, sometimes playing movies and stuff off of it.) No games or important data on it tho, is it okay to drop to that level ? -
EDIT up here to direct everyone to the comment with the root problem, but still no solution. I have a local sata SSD hosting my OneDrive (with stuff like Documents, Desktop... etc also synced here) and as storage for downloads, including torrents through qBittorrent. It is a Fanxiang S101 2TB. Not a T1 manufacturer by any means, but by most reports they are reliable enough. I've had it for a year so far without other issues, and have done full block scanning to verify true capacity and read/write speeds are as advertised. Since 2 weeks ago it has started acting up. My system started stuttering frequently, including in games where I'm otherwise maintaining smooth 200 FPS before. I think I've tracked it down to this SSD. This SSD is not storing my games, nor any other software/apps, but it might be interfering with Windows itself since Desktop etc are on it. It frequently jumps to 100% disk usage, every few milliseconds. Sometimes it ramps back down straight away, other times it stays up for minutes. Even at 100% usage, the read/write speed in task manager are in the 2-digit KB/s range. It also seems to be throttling my qBittorrent downloads - popular linux ISOs with hundreds of seeders are now stuck in 5-50 KiB/s, where I used to easily do 50 MiB/s. I've done a full chkdsk f x r, took 4 hours, absolutely no bad sectors were discovered. It is at about 1 TB usage (out of 2 TB capacity). Would anyone have any ideas on how to further troubleshoot? Could the problem be originating elsewhere that's cascading into this SSD activity? Does this behaviour seem like malware?

Hi all! I've got a bunch of Linux ISOs on my file server, and I recently upgraded my routers and cables to have full Gigabit networking in my house (Yes, I was using 10/100 Mbps before). In the process of testing and verifying the network speeds, I noticed that some files would transfer from the HDD in my file server to the SSD in my personal computer at Gigabit speeds no problem, however one in particular will start off at Gigabit speed, then drop down to 250Mbps or so for the rest of the transfer. Transferring the same file back onto the File Server's HDD from my computer (and all the other large files I've tried) will transfer at Gigabit speed no problem. Any idea what's up with that? Some extra info, I'm running Linux Mint 20.3 on my file server with a simple network shared folder that is on its own dedicated HDD, and my computer is Windows 11. I'm just transferring using regular File Explorer copy/paste between my network drive and my local drive. Thanks in advance

Hello dear PC experts, I'm upgrading my computer today and I'm installing my current SSD which currently has Windows installed as main storage on my new build. But now the question is what happens to the old Windows files? Can someone explain the whole process to me? I installed Win 11 on a USB to then install it on the new build but what happens then and what happens to the old Windows files on the SSD from my previous PC? Thank you for info!

Can anyone help out? One beautiful day, I decided to try setting up a dual-boot for Windows and Linux. I installed Linux on one of my SSDs and resized the partition for it. While I was in Linux, being inexperienced, I mistakenly mounted some drives incorrectly, causing some issues. I can't quite remember the details, but it led to problems, so I thought, 'Well, I'll just delete all the partitions from that SSD, it'll be easier.' After that, of course, GRUB broke, and I got some error code 1234f. I struggled with it for a while, and today, I managed to reinstall Windows and get it to boot. In the BIOS, it shows that it's supposed to boot from the HDD, but actually, it boots into Windows from my first SSD. When I set my Kingston SSD, which I usually use, as the #1 boot option, I get the same 1234f boot problem. But then, for some reason, when I choose my HDD as the boot option, it boots into Windows from that Kingston SSD . Everything seemed normal otherwise, but then came the fun part. Apparently, that SSD got corrupted or something during the Linux setup. It seems like you can still save stuff on it, but games don't work properly on this SSD and they crash. (note that formatting does not seem to fix anything) Any help would be appreciated, and if nothing else works, I guess I'll have to get a new SSD or something. It might have been a bit confusing, but I'm happy to provide more details. EDIT: Perhaps the biggest issue is that games don't seem to work properly on this other SSD. Cause atleast i can now boot to windows. The SSD is a W.D Green SN350 1tb nvme ssd, please do also note that my other ssd works normally, where windows is installed.

Hello everyone, I am having this issue where I have been trying to install Windows 10 Pro on an NVME P5 Crucial SSD 500GB and it is not being recognized. I initially tried on a RAZER Stealth Blade 2019 and it didn't show up. I tried it on my test bench computer and it still did not show up. For both devices, the drive does appear on the BIOS settings but just not Disk Management/Windows install. I've tried updating the drivers and still got the same results. Could the drive simply be faulty? Here are some images to assist with my explanation: Caption: 120GB SSD is boot drive (P5 not showing up there^) Caption: Drive appearing on Device Manager and Hardware Info

Hello, so im doing some stupid thing cause my laptop is freeze while doing unzip in Drive c, because it took too long i decided to turn my laptop off by pressing that emergency button(i know i shouldn't do that but i also don't know why i do that) but after that i got message that my Drive is bad, backup and replace press F1 to resume, i press F1 and the bsod says Will restart the laptop, but it always loop like that, is that problem can be fix through win 11 media creation tool or my SSD was already bad that cant read again. Because, i took it off from my laptop and use external thing to connect it to another laptop, that another laptop freeze. But when i unplug that SSD its fine, i try another SSD on that external it works perfectly fine, so back to that question and should i buy another one?

I built a new PC at the beginning of this year. A couple months into playing on the pc I ran into a boot drive issue. I was using a 1TB Samsung M.2 as my boot drive and I had a 4TB Samsung SSD as additional storage. One day my boot drive "died". I switched my boot drive to a different M.2 port and my computer continued to run, although, it gave me blue screens and game launching/running issues. I tried some storage repair methods with no success. After a bit I decided to buy a new 2TB SSD and remove both of my old drives. I put the new 2TB in as my only drive and redownloaded windows on that. Everything has been great so far however I was wondering if I can put my 4TB SSD back in to use even though it has various games and software downloaded on it currently. There is nothing on the 4TB that needs to be saved, I would be fine with wiping the drive as long as I can continue to use it for more storage space. If I am able to continue to use the drive, what would the procedure be to safely wipe and continue using the drive be? Note: I will not be using the M.2 drive again as that was the drive that was causing all of the corruption issues. The Setup: I8700, 32GB DDR4 @ 3200Mhz, 4X8TB HDD+256GB SSD. 1Gb LAN connection. TrueNAS SCALE Dragnofish 24.04 The Usage: File server & Plex server. The Issue: I'de like to use the SSD, I know how to add VDAV to the pool but there are several options which fits, Log, Cache and Metadata. I'm not sure which one to use for the best performance. The files I care about are about 1-2GB in size. Your advices will be very welcome.

So I never cleaned my PC for like 3 years after I bought it, this is the first time I clean the whole PC, change thermal paste and other things after I noticed lately my PC keeps shutting down on itself multiple times. After I do cleaned the whole PC it's still keeps shutting down on itself. I tried to recheck the thermal paste, recleaned it and it's still shutting down again until I decide to open the SSD's heatsink. Just like in the photo its looks wet even though my whole PC was dry after I tried to play some games on it. Does anybody know what's going on with my SSD, is it broken? Because if I tried to turn my PC on it still going to turn on, just not for a very long time.

Hello, I would like to ask you a question. Soon, I will be moving from my Intel system to the AM5 system. I have bought the new Gen 4 SSD, which will be my boot drive. The old boot drive SSD will be erased and used as a second storage drive. My question is: Do I have to erase the other SSD drive where I have my Steam library, video footage from my projects, music library, etc.? Or is it okay to keep it in the new AMD system? I reckon it shouldn't cause any issues, but I have never moved from an Intel to an AMD CPU before, so I just wanted to be sure. Thanks for the reply in advance.

Hi, to explain as concise as possible. I am running out of C: drive/boot drive (256GB) space. I want to buy an ssd that is much larger and clone the C: drive to it, it contains my OS and loads of other things I don't want to tamper with, as well as personal documents etc. Is this possible? Is there anywhere, where I can follow a step-by-step guide? Would I need to manually set this new SSD to be THE Boot drive after cloning? I don't want to reinstall the OS or any other programs if possible. I play a lot of games on my PC and I've had this rig since 2016 and it has gone through multiple upgrades in the same tower to the point that only the C: drive is the only Original part. I'm not a PC wizz although I've probably had more time working with my computer and building it than the average person. I have this feeling that all my data is interlinked across all the drives. I never install games on the C: drive, but programs like Steam, EA, Riot Games, etc. have made their own paths on the C:. I also have like peripheral software on it as well like LGhub, Corsair ICUE, Bitdefender, etc. Please explain like I'm 5, I appreciate all the help and advice, thanks for your time. OS version: Windows 10 Home x64 10.0.19045 Build 19045 BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 2403 Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X RAM : 32GB 3600MHz GPU: Nvidia RTX 3070 PSU: EVGA 750W bronze Please let me know if you need more information

Kind of a simple question but not really. I have a 2U server in my basement with datacenter 2k22 on it, has a bunch of roles and its in a forest with a few old laptops. nothing "too" special about those machines, just backups for the domain, ADDS (active directory) and crucial/barebones "helpers" for the server. anyway so i got a bunch of stuff that can go into cold storage but obviously i dont wanna pay or use external services. simple reasons for this, potential cyber-incidents with X company, but most of all human error. say for example i setup autopay and i lose my card then forget, well my failsafe data storage is in limbo. given my email is packed with junk most of the time it would be something easily overlooked. maybe the data side on the server would be helpful -16x pcie 4.0 nvme uh, thing. has 4 nvmes in it all kingston fury's at 1tb on raid 1, bitrification or whatever -8x SAS drives, raid 10 all HDDs, seagate constellations, id like to say 4-8tb each? of course the capacities of all and models are the same. disk manager says 14g and some odd megs, so im thinking 4tb each -boot drive is irrelevent, but its a intel something enterprise ssd, guessing prob 128g or less, its on SATA -id like to say at least 4 samsung pro/qvo SSDs at 1tb each, raid 0, just used as temp storage then i shovel copies to other "drives" -a simple 4tb usb3 drive, seagate HDD -another simple 14tb HDD via usb3, that ones a 3.5 inch drive and only one, western digital all this junk are linked to the other pc's, network mapping whatever. nothing special. i deff dont wanna (or do i?) use msft storage spaces role, i forget what its called. basicallly it takes the free space of my other laptops/DC's and combines the drives. all that would mean is if one goes down on the network then poof. prob better off network mapping the laptops multiple drives independently per machine, one has 3, another 4, raid isnt setup yet but thats not a concern at the moment. all samsung 1tb evo/qvo drives. the slowest machine is still rocking a HDD, only a 2 core cpu so not much bother throwing money or anything at it. SO with all this stuff, any ideas for cold storage? apparently bit rot is a real thing so yeah. apparently making dvd-r backups have issues too - even if kept safe without scratches, bit rot yet again. debating on investing in one of those tape deck things, slow but often used for cold storage. but then the magnetic reel is always prone to "something" only reason for the inquiry is because duh we live in a digital world. isnt like going in the basement and busting out a shoebox full of photos is practical these days. my phone alone has ~72,000 photos on it. say i die in a car crash or something at least my daughter would figure out how to access pictures of her birth and my entire life prior and current. of course a crapload of movies, music and games too. man what was that film? oh lets check dads backup cache cause thats where it would be. cant find it online anymore. same goes with games, even after a while i check my stuff and say DAMN i forgot about this one! boom, now im playing Kingpin or Soldier of Fortune. im only 36 but who knows right? should something happen, my lifetimes worth of data could be passed on to my child. its a worthwhile thought, right? any ideas out there? id "burn" vinyl records with .rar files if i could, aside from warping at least it isnt magnetic storage...?

Hello everyone After more than 6 years of buying my PC i decided to upgrade the storage. Currently i have 1TB hdd which has two partitions, C which contains the windows files and some applications, and G which has the rest of the data. I ordered 1TB of m.2 ssd and i was thinking of installing fresh windows on the ssd. So, i wanted to remove the hdd and insert the ssd to install the fresh windows on the ssd. Then, add the hdd back. Now the question is what happens to the data that was on the hdd, does it remain there and shows when i connect the hdd back, or is it removed? If it remains there, what happens to the partitions (C) which has the old windows files if the new ssd has the new C partition with the new windows?

The white one is my ssd bought at the exact same time as the black one which is my twin's they're the exactly same model. Should I change mine it says "good" but how much do I trust that it has gone down from 24 to 23 in about 2 weeks this drive is 6 years old. Or is this just a bug on my drive displaying lower wear than what it really is considering my brother has more TBW and less wear. If I were to change there are currently 2 well priced options (same price) in my region which are the 2TB Lexar NM790 or 2TB Mushkin Vortex Redline does anyone have long term experience with any of these because I've heard that the IG5236 in the Vortex Redline has had some problems dying are those problems resolved? Is DRAM-cache really necessary if I game 99% of the time?

Like stated I left my computer on while cooking lunch when the power went out. I thought nothing of it since it happened before but when the power came back on my pc was stuck on the ASUS boot screen and Del or F2 didn't do anything. I thought my bios was corrupted so I downloaded a new bios version but it still persisted. After trying everything I started removing drives when it started working then added drives back one by one until it did the same. Now I'm trying to get the SSD working again. I moved it to a different computer, used a usb-c to sata adapter on my phone, and tried every sata port on my pc but it still wont show up. It only had games on it so I don't really care about the data but I can't even get the drive to appear in bios or disk management. It's a Fanxiang 512 gig if it helps, I knew it was garbage so I only put games on it but would still like to try and revive it. I took it apart and the LED light still comes on so there's hope, no obvious signs of damage or shorts. I tried looking it up but people were unhelpful with the (just format it) and change sata compatibility mode to IDE in bios. I have little hope of fixing it but figured I'd try posting on here and see if somebody knows some obscure way to get a SSD to show up in the bios. [How does a power outage kill a single SSD but leave everything else just fine]

Hi all, I have a laptop which work let me keep when we moved over to new laptops. Admittedly i think it was just a nice IT guy as opposed to company policy. However, the laptop is bios locked, initially I managed to boot it from usb windows media, and reinstalled windows, removing all partitions (bitlocker was mentioned during this part). Now when I turn on the laptop it takes me to a corporate login page, seems like initial set up of a corporate laptop. I am wondering if I replace the SSD if this will solve the issues and I can reinstall windows on it then? I’ve also read that if I use the new ssd in this machine it will be locked to that machine? I believe the Bios lock is going to be impossible to remove. Happy to answer any questions.

I currently have a 1tb Gen3 M.2 installed in the only Gen4 M.2 slot on my motherboard and I'm looking to swap it with a 2tb Gen4 M.2 SSD and move my current 1tb Gen3 SSD to the other M.2 slot on my motherboard. -Since my OS is already installed on that 1tb drive will I run into issues by adding a new SSD and moving the current SSD in use into another slot? -Do I need to or should I migrate the OS to the new Gen4 SSD I'll be adding? -Is there anything I need to change in the BIOS as far as boot settings? Just built my first PC this month and hoping to not brick it by doing this so any inputs are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Silly question. Recently just installed a new ssd (boot drive) and it has no ufei or recovery partition. It wasn't installed in legacy but I did use Rufus so maybe it was...? It's GPT not MBR so I'd assume it's not in legacy. Anything weird about this? Partition CMD
