Hello everyone, I got some birthday money so I'm thinking about upgrading a component of my PC. Currently I have an M.2 SSD running as a boot drive but I use a mechanical hard drive where I've installed my games. Would upgrading that drive to an SSD be beneficial at all? Thank You

Hello, which type of front panel do you think works best for airflow? Doesn't need RGB, just good airflow. I've seen mesh panels, tempered glass and some flat fronts. I assume mesh panel works best since it doesn't obstruct airflow much but I'd like to know your opinions. I'd appreciate if you could explain your choice a bit, too. Thanks in advance.

Hey Guys, Title in itself might seem a little stupid but seems as linustech is my treasure trove for knowledge, i haven't really been able to find anything that's been clearly definitive with regards to maintenance of a solid state hybrid drive. I'm planing on casing a 1TB seagate firecuda (128mb cache/8GB ssd) as an external drive. Need a pretty obvious and simple question answered: Does this or any other sshd fall under the guidelines for defragmentation or are sshds optimised by way of trim? I'm kind of trying to power through replacing all of my gear considering I got out of a relationship a few months ago and all the old gear is just giving me bad memories. I use my laptop rebuild as a healing platform. I'm rebuilding my laptop and putting together a new external drive to work through my way of healing. I'm mildly autistic with a meticulous specialty for picking specific parts when i build a computer. So if the above drive fits the box and doesn't need trim, it's gunna sit in my enclosure. Help a nerd out. Many thanks, Ryan.

Alright, haven't posted on here for a long time... So last year i build a budget pc for myself (Amd Athlon x4 860k, gtx750, 8GB ram -> i don't play high end games so no need for higher specs) BUT to save some cash i used an old external hdd and switched to an internal (I removed the usb switch), boot time is ultra slow (5 to 10 mins until usable). Being tight on money to spend on tech right now I'm limiting myself to one of these things for now (i will prob get both after a while) : NOTE : Yes they are unrelated items, and I don't absolutely NEED either. 1) Buy 128gig ssd (50€) Or 240gig ssd (80€) haven't decided yet 2) Buy a Chromebook (+- 130/140€) -> For school, only to read PDFs and write essays + the occasional youtube vids (I have managed fine without a laptop my first year and a half at uni, it's not mandatory but would be nice inbetween classes) I know the choice is ultimately mine but i need some arguments.

Hello, new here. I build PC's as a hobby due in part of Youtube PC channels including this. I built my main PC last year to replacing my aging q6600 DDR2 system with an AM3+ DDR3. I decided to follow the advise of using an SSD as the Windows boot drive. I started with a SanDisk SDSSDP-128G 128gb and that died 6 months later. I used an old 160gb mechanical drive to supplement until I can get another SSD. A couple of weeks later I got a Toshiba Q300 HDTS712 120 GB drive (and had a bitch of a time cloning my Windows drive to it). Just now that died! I found my 160gb spare drive to not have to reinstall Windows. I know it was probably a fluke to have 2 different model SSDs die on me in such a short time but SSDs ave left a bad taste in my mouth, That's $100 down the drain and lost hours in setting up windows again. Now I have lost mechanical drives before (2 died because of improper PSU cables [modular], and another one smoked due to being an old drive i found in storage and God knows what it went through) but the majority of mechanical drives I have used have lasted when stored and used properly (even the PATA ones!). If there's anything wrong with my PC causing this, I'll find out. System: AMD FX-8350 (Stock) 16GB 1600MHz PNY Anarchy RAM MSI 970A-G43 Motherboard MSI RX-480 8GB GPU Raidmax 735 Watt PSU

Whenever I try to play a game such as Dark Souls or Black Desert Online my computer will freeze and my screen turns two random solid colors. I have had my 1050ti for since April 2017 is would it be the card or do I need to replace something else? If this helps here is the DxDiag, https://pastebin.com/MsbfXxNT Thank you

So I recently purchased a Crucial mx300 and it will be here soon. My OS is already on an SSD and then a few programs. That's only 256gb, the mx300 is 550 or right around there. When i load on a majority of my games and programs will they load significantly faster. Also, how do I move my games to a new storage device.

Hello! I am looking for a good motherboard for my 9700k, which is stable, solid. One which is silent with no VRM coil whine and free of other electrical noises. What is the top 3 board around 300-400 EUR? Which one is suggested?

I recently built a new PC and unfortunately I'm getting freezes while playing some more demanding games, pretty sure it's only in 3D games. Screen freezes on a random color like blue, black, white, grey, red, purple etc. after which I always must turn the PC off and on again. I've got a GTX 980TI, Ryzen 1700 and B350 plus as my motherboard. I still have warranty on my PSU and Motherboard, so if the problem cannot be solved, I hope I don't need to buy a new GPU... Things I'm certain about or have tried: - GPU isn't overheating, stays at 50-65°C. - Tried without over- and underclocking as well as with underclocking. - I can play non-demanding games without any problems. - Installed the newest GPU drivers, uninstalled and installed again. - Tried the other PCIe slot. - 750W PSU should be enough. Thanks guys, Aksu255

Hello everyone, Okay so, earlier in the week i found that windows was set to have the pagefile on my SSD, and i do alot of gaming and i like to have certain games on my SSD's, which causes a space issue because windows was giving over 40GB to the Pagefile, i found that to be odd. So i changed the pagefile based on advice on other forums ( but i think the rigs were different so that may have been a bad idea ), to a minimum 1GB and max 2GB. and i started to have crashes, out of memory issues, multi tasking issues etc. So i changed it again to a min 4096 and max 9096 and i have not seen an issue since then, but i still wonder if that was the right call either, so i thought id come here and check everyone's opinion on what the best method of setting up the pagefile on my system would be, to avoid memory issue's and game in peace and quiet. so my setup is as follow's Ryzen 1600 16GB 2400 Avexir DDR4 GTX 1070 Strix 3x 240GB SSD Samsung 850 Evo's - high end games and performance games 1x the SSD's has windows 10 Pro and thats the drive with the Pagefile configuration. 1x Seagate Firecuda SSHD 1TB - storage and low end games Regards, appreciate any advice.

Hi all, A few years back I saw a mod for car audio where they used solid copper or copper pipes to connect the amp to the subwoofer. For some reason this idea just came back to me now, and I think it would look sick as a mod for a modular power supply. My idea is to use 18/16 AWG solid copper wire instead of the stock 24-pin connector from power supply to motherboard since it will hold its shape and do 90 degree bends in it where appropriate. In order to keep the wires separated as there would not be insulation on them (maybe do a rubber paint on them to insulate them) I will be using a typical cable comb that is used to keep the usual wires neat. I can't for the life of me find any mod like this on Google, and was wondering if any of you guys have. If not, any advice or tips on how I could accomplish this would be awesome! Thanks!!

I plan on getting a WD Green 120 GB SSD to just put Windows and a few programs (like Chrome) on. I just want to know how long an SSD will last if I only put OS and a few programs on it (I'll keep all my games on my HDD). Thanks!

Hey guys, I‘m currently using the ekwb indigo violet fluid in my custom build. I‘m not very happy with the transparency of the liquid so I want to change the current one to a solid color liquid. I‘ve read many posts about the ek cryofuel solid purple, but many people got problems with white particles or cloudy tubes. Do you guys have any recommendations for solid liquids?

Hey folks! So I recently got a SSD from Verbatim with a size of 128GB. In the beginning it was fast, but after I installed some programms it started to slow down more and more. I searched on the internet and found out that it's a firmware issue, so I downloaded a new firmware. While flashing the newer one my PC crashed and the update was interrupted, so now my drive is not showing in the explorer. But the disk management tells me it is a 2MB size disk, which isn't initialized (neither as GPT nor MBR). I tried reflashing the firmware as the device is showing up in the device manager and the flashing tool, but the flashing just fails showing the message "Failed!!! Not Running on Flash Normal Code now !!- FBO". I could really use some help. Also I already contacted the consumer support. Is it possible to flash the firmware? I've backed up all my data before I did the firmware override, but it would be nice if I could use the drive again. Thanks guys and have a nice day!

I have recently purchased a Samsung 850 evo 500g. After I installed the hard drive the software prompted me to sync my new evo with my old hdd, without thinking I did. Is there a simple way to reverse this process? Thank you for your time.

Hi, I know there are a lot of posts about this topic but I have yet to find one that fits my needs. So in the short, I'm looking for a case for my PC which will be good for watercooling, currently I have a Phanteks Enthoo Luxe housing a X99-s, R9 290X, EK D5 Pump/Res combo unit, a 360mm radiator and a 240mm radiator. The case is pretty good but my issue is it makes horrific creaking noises which are really loud and slightly concerning as I don't want the case to flex too much due to the hardline acrylic tubing housed inside it. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on if there is a better soloution for me or if there is something I can do to dampen these creaking noises?

Hi all, I've tried a bit of researching around here and haven't really found exactly what I am looking for. I'm looking for a keyboard and mouse setup that I could take into different rooms without interruption or loosing connection. It's been a long time since I've looked at wireless options so I don't know if this is possible yet as far as wireless signal tech for peripherals. Basically what I want to do is run an HDMI from PC in my office and run it into my TV in the living room. It wouldn't be a very long stretch for either the cable or the keyboard. About 15ft from the tower through the wall to where the couch is. And about a 35ft cable run. Let me know what keyboard/mouse you suggest and if this seems doable or if this is just silly. It seemed cool when I thought of it.

I wanted to buy the CM quickfire Rapid with red switches but it's only available in the US, then I went for the Ducky Shine 3 tenkyless and still can't find it anywhere in UK-EU. I'm left with the Razer Tournament edition which I don't want.. Can anyone recommend me any solid tenkeyless mechanical keyboard that is actually in EU or UK that doesn't have cheap MX switches?
