Hello Everyone! I need a little help fixing an issue with my shares on my server. The machine has been running for a couple weeks, and has be through at least 5 parity checks. Also, the Mover has activated at least 4 times. Yet it's still showing me at least 3 'unprotected' shares. I'm hoping someone can tell what steps I should take to get those shares turn to green. Thank you for your help!

Gday all, I've used Windows network shares for years and honestly it's like dragging yourself over hot coals but there's no real alternative for an average joe like me. Basically, every once in a while something would break, sometimes due to Windows update and sometimes for no discernible reason. The outcome is always the same; many hours/days of faffing about on google, cursing, tearing down security measures, and it's all working again albeit with a lower level of security somewhere or another. So the time now has come when all the brute force measures have been exhausted and I have no more firewalls to burn down, no more passwords to remove or permissions to give. Two days ago my sister complained that her W10 laptop could no longer connect to the W7 home server. So after the usual fighting with Windows and trying out a dozen internet suggestions and registry edits, it was working again. Not only that, my Mac could now also connect to the home server (it stopped working months ago and I gave up trying to make it work). In summary, the conclusion was something about disabling NetBIOS and IPv6 all around and also a bunch of registry edits as usual. HOWEVER, it seems that the flipside of that is my main W7 PC now can't connect to home server. They're both gigabit wired to a router, but are also directly tethered to each other by a 10gbit SFP cable (from linus' tutorial a couple years back). This setup has worked flawlessly and never given me any problems with either speed or connectivity, even stuff like remote desktop. But no longer. I feel like I've read every post on technet twice already. I could try to recall and list everything I've tried but not before the heat death of the universe. Between work and rest and what little play I can get the last thing I want to do is screw around with Microsoft's nonsense networking. I'd just about do anything to have working, simple file sharing. Pinch a cat, slap an old lady, set Ballmer's house on fire, whatever. ---- So for the first time in my life I'd like to sit down and try a surgical approach with the hopefully kind people here at LTT. This has never worked in the past because all the places I posted (Stackexchange, Technet, Reddit, 7Forums etc) have either responded by completely ignoring noob like me, throwing out a bunch of incomprehensible jargon and code, providing pseudo-polite tech support that's irrelevant at best, or just inexplicable downvoting. I know my way around a cmd window, so tell me what to do, what you need to know, what diagnostics and reports to produce, hell I'll even let you teamviewer in here to find out what's going on. Please help. Home server: Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Gigabyte Z67, i7-3570K, 16GB DDR3, GTX1060, whole bunch of hard drives and Mellanox Connect-X 2 Workstation: Windows 7 Ultimate x64, MSI Z77, i7-3770K, 24GB DDR3, GTX1070, not as many hard drives but also has a Mellanox Connect-X 2 Router: Netgear R6400, cat5e cables all around Thanks in advance guys.

Hi all, done my fill of Googling the past few weeks on this, can't figure it out. Here's the setup. There are 4 computers (3 WIN10 1 MacOS) on my network I'm interested in. Computer names are: Workstation-1 Workstation-2 Ray-Laptop Ray-Mac-Mini I've set up various network drives and folder shares across all the different computers I want to have access to from anywhere on the network. Workstation-2 can see all of them flawlessly in the 'Network' section of File explorer. At least it did until a few minutes ago. Now it only sees Workstation-1 and Ray-Laptop, just like all the others, something broke it, but it's been the odd one out, being the only one that would ever see them all. At the end of the day I'd like all 4 computers to be able to see all 4 computers. And they all can, I've confirmed in command prompt that I can ping all 4 computers from every other one and get a response. And here's a video showing that I can access any of the places I want to and see the files, so I know the sharing permissions/setup is correct. I've followed every guide that I can find. I've enabled various services on all the computers recommended, like: Function Discovery Provider Host Function Discovery Resource Publication And I've set these all to be Automatic (Delayed Start) I've enabled SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support in Windows Features Network is set to private on all machines, File and Printer Sharing is turned on as well as Network Discovery, password protection is turned off in the Network Sharing Center, Encryption is the same. Etc. Does anyone have a deep understanding of Windows networking, or have an insanely detailed guide I can follow that will guarantee I can get every computer to show up in 'Network' instead of just the two. I've had this issue for months and never can find a solution, so I haven't been able to set everything up the way I want, just the essential stuff. I don't want to use 'Network Drives' with letters because I won't have enough letters, and it'll be way more confusion anyway. Any help would be awesome!

I recently switched my NAS out for a synology unit. I mapped the network shares to Windows 10. However, the shares without a quota appear to show available and total storage, while the shares with the quota do not. My previous WD NAS showed the available and total storage per share with the quotas enabled. Is there a way to fix this? Is there something I overlooked when creating the shares? Shares X: and Z: have 1TB quotas

Hi there, Im having quite a hard time figuring out what to do with this problem. I have a company wich uses fortinet/forticlient to connect to there network. (VPN). The VPN Connection is made succesful but i cannot access any of the network shares. Not even a ping would work. On mobile it seems to work fine over the same Wifi network as the PC and on LTE it also works. I can access all shares on the network no problem on my phone but windows is being windows i guess Any idea what could be causing this? Tested on W7 , W8.1 and W10 (1709) Thanks in advance

I followed all the steps given in the documentations and installed Rockstor, created pools, shares, and then created a samba share which i accesses as per given on this page --> http://rockstor.com/docs/samba_ops.html#from-a-windows-machine Now I am able to view the share on windows in the Network folder (Image 1) When I open UDDHAVLABDE computer, I get this (Image 2) The share that I have created in Rockstor. But, now when I try to open it, I receive this error (image 3) What is the problem and any solutions?

I have build a Rockstor NAS using the guide on their website. But there is no guide on the website on how to access NFS shares on Windows 10. So, please let me know how to do it? And also, as I am completely new to Rockstor or Linux for that matter, I would like if you explain me how copying files to and from the Rockstor or any other NAS works Thank You!

Running out of things to sell indeed, and this one seems like one of the more bizarre things to sell off given how well Sony does in the imaging sector with how many devices use Sony sensors these days. Kinda weird they would minimize a partnership in a segment that they actually do well in, but such is life at Sony these days. Note: I gave up on trying to figure out if this was a prank or not. Such is the day. http://www.engadget.com/2015/04/01/sony-sells-half-its-stake-in-olympus/ http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/04/01/us-olympus-sony-idUSKBN0MS3JW20150401 http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-04-01/sony-agrees-to-halve-its-stake-in-olympus-with-sale-to-jpmorgan

GoPro shares dove Tuesday after Apple received a slew of patents, including one suggesting it could get into the sports camera business. Included among several patents granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to Apple Monday, one is for a wearable camera that could compete with a certain high-definition camera maker that just went public last year. Shares of GoPro GPRO sunk more than 12%. Apple's patent application, filed in March 2012, says the camera can be mounted on bikes or scuba masks, and will take pictures and record sounds under water. It can be operated remotely, says the application, which references the GoPro HD Hero2 digital camera. Hi guys, I let my thoughts wander off for a bit and though about getting into shares. I haven't read a lot about how to start with that so I don't know if it is difficult whatsoever. - Are there some LTT users who have experience with shares? - Is there like a minimum amount of money to start with (to make it worthwhile). - Are there things I should absolutely stay away from? - Other tips are very much appreciated I don't intend on making 1000000.00 Dollars the first time, I just want to do this as a hobby if possible.

Social networking giant Twitter plans, according to multiple sources, to go public in the first quarter of 2014 and expects a market float of up to 15 billion dollar. Twitters CEO Dick Costolo is already discussing the IPO with potential advisers including Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan, the Sunday Times reports. Hi guys, So I am managing a Windows 2008 Server (not R2). On it, I am sharing a folder. Under advanced sharing, the permissions are given to a specific group on the Domain Controller. On the Domain Controller, a user is in this group. However, this user does not have permission to view or edit this share. Even though they should. The only way they can connect to the share and view/edit it, is if the group Authenticated Users is added to the permissions of the Share. This, however, gives all users access to the share. For security reasons, this is bad. Obviously. I tried adding the user directly to the permissions list, which didn't allow them to view/edit the share either. I tried that because I have a similar (but not the same issue) where a different user is a part of a different group. And all users in that group have access to the share but except for that user. And the only way to give that user permissions is by directly adding them to the permissions list. Those are two different problems, but their root is the same. Sharing permissions isn't working right between the Shares and the Domain Controller. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Vitalius

Warframe Forum source Market News Source Death of a salesman here, It seems I have to report some bad news. Various sources have reported that Perfect World Entertainment (aka. PWI, PW) -famous for their "pay-to-play to pay-to-win" model may have bought controling shares in Digital Extremes ltd. - the Studio behind Dark Sector and Warframe. Fans have gone batnut-crazy (flying holy balls, L'bastion!) at the thought of their favourite grindy-RNG(-y? or RNG-ie?) game, namely, Warframe, becoming controlled by the company which seems to ruin every online multiplayer game it accuires with "x chance to drop item Y when opened with key Q" lock boxes rented items and other things that Warframe in its creation was meant to be different from. TLDR: How to ruin a game based on SPACE - NINJAS? Rumours suggest that simply having sold shares to Perfect World Entertainment, DE Ltd. has ruined a game with frikkin SPACE holyballs NINJAS!! EDIT 1: Official Vague Crowd Control Statement from [DE]Steve basically says "Don't worry guy. The game will always be the game no matter what happens to the game." Thank you for that confidence-boost. EDIT 2: 15th of October 2014 Digital Extremes has finally confirmed the suspected acquisition by Perfect World (aka Perfect Online -- a subsidiary of Holdings Limited).
