Hello LTT community. Recently I was able to score a bargain on an Asus Rampage II Extreme + i7 920 combo, and this gave me the idea of building a secondary gaming PC around it that I could put in the living room (sure this platform is outdated and not power efficient in the slightest but it can still pack a solid punch). Anyway, I found a 4x4GB 1333MHz DDR3 kit, but there seems to be what I assume is a memory channel issue: by installing the 4 modules in the recommended configuration (so slots A2, A1, B1, C1), the BIOS would only pick up 8GB, while in Windows it would state 16GB with 8GB usable. After this I tried multiple different memory configurations while also swapping the modules around and these were the results: A1, B1, C1 --> still 8GB detected A1, B1 --> 4GB detected A2, A1, B2, B1 --> doesn't POST B2, B1, C2, C1 --> detectes the full 16GB and everything works as it should I could just use it in the last configuration, but then it wouldn't take advantage of triple channel, and I probably wouldn't be able to upgrade to 24GB in the future if I wanted to. So now I'm asking you for help: is there something I can try to do or do I just have to rule this off as a dead memory channel? I've already updated the BIOS to the latest version, reseated the CPU and checked the socket but found no bent or broken pins. I've heard some people say that excessive CPU cooler mounting pressure could cause memory issues: while I don't think I overtightened the cooler's screws, is it worth it to look into this potential solution or is it unlikely? And if it ends up being an actual dead memory channel, in your experience, is it most likely to be the CPU or motherboard's fault? I'd hope for the former since I was thinking of selling it and swapping it for a 6 core down the line anyway. Tell me what you think about this, I'm open to suggestions.

Hello all! - (TLDR down below) I come here after a tone of my own personal research to try find the answer as well as confirm. Basically I have a much much older system. It was running beautifully fulfilling all my needs for all those years until a couple of sticks died. So basically I'm on only 4 gig's of ram (yeah I'm one of those 100 chrome tab peoples so life is hard atm aha). After it died, i checked my manual and went out to buy some new DDR3 ram, seeing there where plenty of options available I brazenly went with some Kingston (KVR16N11/4) sticks that matched all the compatibility requirements of my motherboard. Assuming ram would be the easiest part to replace I went ahead installed the sticks only to be greeted with no post. I went through all the troubleshooting options, updated my bios etc, still no post, long story short, I returned them (luckily). So now I'm out and about doing even further research to absolutely try and make sure the next set of sticks I get work. Before people flame me for getting a new system, I am currently in the process of saving money to get a sweet new pc . Unfortunately I don't have cash to splash. Boy would I love to be the winner of one of those ROG RIG episodes. All that ROG gear looks so sweet. I have a ASUS Rampage III Formula with a Intel core i7 950. Currently running 2x (KVR1333D3N9/2G) which have lasted since my pc's birth "knocks on wood". The ram that I'm really keen on buying are these, which also my local pc stores have in stock, but I don't know enough to be certain. And I want to make sure as they are difficult to return if at all. pcpartpicker and a couple other websites say they are compatible but I don't know how reliable those websites are. Buy G.Skill F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL 8GB (2x4GB) 1333MHz DDR3 | Memory | Scorptec Computers G.Skill 8GB (2x4GB), PC3-10666 (1333MHz) DDR3, Ripjaws X, 9-9-9-24-2N, 1.5V, Dual Channel Kit I've come across a lot of similar g skill sticks with slight variations in the model for example gbrl instead of gbxl. Upon research couldn't find much info on difference other then just a difference in the head spreader as well as the RL versions being better for older mobos like mine over the XL but I'm not 100% certain on the info I found, otherwise these sticks look very promising. I've also read g.skill is a really good brand. So I've come here hoping I can get some sound advice, perhaps there may be some peeps familiar with the board or memory. Any information at all is appreciated. Thank you TLDR: Trying to find memory compatible for my motherboard before I make another silly purchase. ASUS Rampage III Formula - Intel Core i7 950

hi everyone....i want to buy a samsung 950 pro ssd , it's m.2 NVMe SSD,,,my motherboard is rampage v edition 10 and it has PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 slot with m key,,,the motherboard manual and asus site says that the m.2 port is Gen3 x4 with m key and nothing about the NVMe support...so i wanted to know if this motherboard's m.2 port supports NVMe or not? so i contacted the asus support about this and asked if this motherboard's m.2 slot supports nvme or not and they replied after one week and their answer was so short and simple : "no" !!! without any explanation....so since they didn't answer my question completely i decided to post this problem here,,,so the question is does this motherboards m.2 slot supports nvme or not? and if not does it mean i only won't be able to utilize the nvme technology or i can't use it at all..... thanks...

hi,,, i want to build a desktop PC for mainly 3D architectural works (like 3Dmax software) and video and photo editing,,, i chose intel 6900k as my CPU and 2 nvidia geforce 1080 as GPU,,,and i want to add 2 other 1080 geforce in future to complete the 4 way SLI... now in motherboard section first i wanted to buy the rampage v edition 10,,,but today i checked the X99-E-10G WS motherboard, and seems this ones expansion slots are faster than the rampage v edition 10 (it supports up to 4 x16 in SLI mode),,,now i'm more towards to buy the X99-E-10G WS because it has faster expansion slots and i couldn't find an advantage on rampage one over the WS one,,,now i want to get help from you guys about the rampage specific specs,,,is there any important feature that the rampage v edition 10 has over the X99-E-10G W ? what will i loose if i choose the WS model over the rampage model? thanks...

So hi LTT forum, Its been a year since i got rid of my last PC in order to make room for our kids at home. Now, i finally fought back some space for a PC, and i decided on the following parts: Asus PG348Q Rampage V10 Edition - (Alrdy ordered) i7 6800k 32GB G.Skill TridentZ 3200 MHz (4x8) - (Alrdy ordered) h115i AIO cpu cooler - (Alrdy ordered) Phanteks enthoo ATX - (Alrdy ordered) Strix 1070. SuperNova G2 850 Now as stated above i alrdy got some of the stuff at home. But last night i found a thread on a forum (which i cant fint anymore) with someone saying they had 2 remove the backplate and the RGB controller on the motherboard in order ti make it fit inside this specific case. I know the width of the card will cover up 50ish% of the holes for cable management, i can live with that, but im not gonna modify a motherbaord that expensive, epsecially not gonna remove the RBG controller wich i feel like i payed good money for - Does anyone have experince, or documentation of this, or the opposite? - id rather not unpack anything if i have 2 return any of it. Besides that, the DAC incl in the motherboard, does anyone have any smart solution to use that? there are no 5.25" drive bays in this case, and since the DAC was also a big deal for me, i really wanna find a way to use it, inside or outside the case. And last but not least, i read ppl complainting, that their Gpus with backplates had trouble fitting the first PCI-e slot cuz of the size of the I/O shield. Im having a hard time finding documentation for this other then threads of a few ppl whining. and in my experince, i need to see pictures or it didnt happen. Can anybody help put some light to theese few issues? //Kapow

Hey I did a build last year. I have a Asus Rampage V edition 10 with a 6800k and 32gb (4x8gb) DDR4 Corsair Dominator Platinum 3200 CL16. I cant get XMP to boot. Would appreciate any help. I am really at the point of selling this ram and getting some Trident RGB CL14 of the same speed as it would also match my build better but trying to not give up at getting this running at 3200. Not looking to OC the CPU just want to get my ram running at its rated speed.

Because it will be some time next year before I can afford the 2 1080 ti's, I have decided to use the 980 ti out of my old machine just so I can get going on the build. Other then that I hope I have made a good choice on parts here because this project needs to happen. With that, thank you Linus for all the tips, information, and how too's, wish me luck on my first water cooled build, so here hold my beer I got this. So my GF rig is currently : Asus rampage iv extreme x79, 3930k 4.5ghz, 12gb corsair 1600mhz ram and a gtx 970. And ive seen TechYes talking about some xeon chips beeing better for gaming? What xeon would fit a x79 board? And is it worth the upgrade? She mainly plays games like PUBG and CSGO. And as i recall those games are very cpu intensive. What do you guys suggest?

So yet again I'm posting on a case as I need a new one my Alpha 550 feet have just broken off when I moved my case so instead of a want it's a must. Anyway I've got an Asus Rampage VI Extreme so it's EATX (little bigger than usual) and I've found a case I think fits the bill perfectly It's the LIAN LI PC-O11 Dynamic. It fits ALL my needs. Tempered Glass and beautiful. My question is this. Does anybody own one? I'll be pulling air in through my H150I Rad with 3x LL120 And extracting through the roof with 3 more. On a Rampage VI Extreme the VRM are warm as is so what's an owner's thermals like? What's the build quality like? I'm looking for something as good as the 570x the Alpha 550 wasn't. I miss it so much and I think the Dynamic finally does what the original PC-011 doesn't. Any other cases you can think of?

I'm trying to overclock my 7820x to 4.9 GHz. So far, I'm doing a stable 4.85 GHz but if I try a 4.9 GHz the system becomes unstable. If anyone has this chip and overclocked to 4.9 or anyone else who can help, what settings should I take a look at again? I use a corsair H150 Pro RGB AIO andf temps are at around 73 doing 4.85 on all cores when I did a stress test. PSU: Corsair HX1200i Motherboard: ROG Rampage VI Extreme I have bets placed with my friends that I can do this. Please help.

My processor was an i7-990x, ram 24gb of corsair vengance lp ddr3 and then I had 5 500gb wd blue drives in raid. Along with having four asus 550ti 1gb cards two for each monitor. I was hoping someone will have that same board so I can restore my first gaming rig i've been using my laptop for the past 6 years since... i would really like to have that board and there is only on that i can find and they want 600 USD for it used...

But,I have noticed that this mobo have only one 8 pin EPS and one 4 pin power connector for CPU.Will those connectors be enough for i9 7900x CPU even OCed?Now I'm a bit worried so I had to ask for the opinion of the community...

Hi all! After creeping for a while, I decided to finally register because I'm finally able to start my project but I need some help. Here's a little back story so you know what I'm dealing with. I'm a content editor (4k, gfx, video, 3d, etc.) and avid gamer. I've wanted to build my own pc for a while; I'm finally in a position to do it and be able to go mostly all out! With my job, I took a new position at work, which moved me out of LA and into the midwest, so no more palm trees. It's really hot and humid here, so I want to make sure my new pc stays nice and cool! I'm looking for a case to support the parts that I have for the build but also can keep everything cold inside. Fan cooling or Liquid cooling I haven't decided yet. Here are the parts that I already have: Asus Rampage V Edition 10 2x Nvidia GTX 1080 (OC Ed.) for sli 1x Intel 750 U.2 (drive only, no pci cart) I'm sort of looking at either Corsair or Thermaltake, but I'm not married to anything. A friend has been pushing me towards the Corsair 900D, and it looks like a nice, really-big case, but then I saw the TT's cases had the additional bottom box and sdd carriers that mount in the 5.25 bays. I'm only starting off with one drive now, but I'd like the ability to add more later. So that's it. Any suggestions on a case big enough to handle those parts but allow for more drives later? Also to allow for using (or moving to) liquid cooling? With all the lights and stuff on the board and cards, I'd really like to have something that's also a show off piece as well! Thanks, I appreciate it all!

Everyone, this thread was created for anyone concerned about potential bottlenecks between components. Post any processor, ram, motherboard, video card combo and let's discuss optimal, NOT compatible! For instance, I don't care what motherboards my processor, ram, gpu is compatible with if the full potential of these components are not available through this motherboard. Why drop serious coin on one component if this component is fractionalized or bottlenecked by another component. The inspiration for this thread is inspired by the below...which i still don't have good any motherboard choices. Any other bottleneck concerns are welcome in this thread. Original question: best motherboard for 5930k? I was looking at pulling the trigger on MSI x99 sli Krait board. to match up with i7 5930k processor. Now this got me thinking that I don't want to create a bottleneck. Just because a board is compatible doesn't mean it's optimal...correct? I don't need a lot of extras I just want to maximize the 5930k processor and also want to be compatible if i decide to upgrade to 5960x later...but i'm on a budget now. Are there any more affordable boards that won't create the bottleneck your referring to above and are still excellent boards?. Thanks!!!!!

Hello. So i watched the newest season of Scrapyard wars. the modding one. I got so inspired me so much, and here we are modding my second case. First mod was not CRAZY modded pc. Only colorcoded, So i started by going to local junkyard, and i asked if they had pc cases. I was lucky enogh that somebody had dropped off one gaming case that day. So i haggled the price down to 10€(~12$). And when i was happy with a price i went to another junkyard and got some gauges. (Amps, Hz, Celcius, Psi, etc.) And then back to home and to MOD the case like never before. First thing i did was sanding and grinding. When i was happy with my grindings and sandings i brought a bucket full of salty water (very salty). And then poured liters of salty water over the case so it gets THE OLD PATINA. (it is not rusting very fast) Then i got an idea, that it would be very cool to put some old moped spark plugs, on top of it to give some extra volts, for my overclocking(working on it) On your extra time Pls. go and check out my current rig. WhiteRed Build. ........TO BE CONTINUED.........

I've overclocked my 5960X to 4.6GHz on all 8 cores with HPT on, but my problem is that I've overclocked in the Bios and every settings in the bios are saved, but when I entered Windows, it's actually not overclocked, I can't explain that, every settings in the Bios are set to the overclock settings. I've tried increasing the coere voltage and even the PSU, but no hope. Problem is that every single time it's on stock CPU clock and ram frequency is also at stock

The offer is : i7 5960X Asus ROG Rampage V Extreme 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2666MHz DDR4 Used of course. Is this a good buy for this price or can I get something better/newer for approx. 1500€ ? We are talking for about 4 years of "futureproofing".

Hey guys I have been having trouble with my PC as of very recent which has only been crapping out on me just this very week. It will not display anything and I know that for sure because I have tested other GPU's and they have not been able to display the PC. It started by simply not displaying the Motherboard brand and how to get into the bios. my raid and Windows booting up. When I logged in, the computer just flat out froze just by watching and video or playing a game. Let me go through what I have done. 1. I have tried other things in the displays aside from the PC i.e my MSI GT72 G1438 and my PS4 which both worked unlike my PC 2. I have tried other GPU's which did nothing 3. I thought my RAID failed but I know it wasn't that because from what I am aware of, RAID's don't cause displays to not show and my Intel roflmg raid showed in the bios. 4. I am unable to get into windows as well because i pressed the reset BIOS button on the motherboard which makes the PC go to the BIOS but unlike the last time, nothing at all showed on the display. Im thinking its either the CPU (i7 5930K) being dead or the motherboard. My money is more towards the CPU as the Motherboard is showing A2 (Unable to boot (RAMPAGE V EXTREME is my motherboard)). Im getting it checked by Scorptec on Friday but my question is if there are any other solutions I can do before then that might fix the situation? Thanks all TCrump452
