Thank Linus and Luke talked about it on WAN show. I'm a Chinese, a Gamer, an Engineer who have been in Canada for 10+ years. Started playing online games since 10yo. I play more than 2 hours competitive Dota2/Valorant/Starcraft2 etc everyday if not working overtime. (I suck at games now, getting old) Background: Tencent published their financial report for 2nd quarter, 2021 fiscal year. English version: https://static.www.tencent.com/uploads/2021/08/18/236f212d95d7402bacdbdf904a6b2b65.pdf In Tencent 2nd Quarter report, gaming took 52% . 10+ Billion USD, more than 110 Million per day. Young people under 16yo, took 2.6%, that is 300 Million USD. Kid under 12yo, took 0.3%, yes it is low, but that is 34 Million USD. After this report published, Tencent also announced to 1 hour policy and "payment unacceptable" for under 12 yo. Btw, all games in China right now requires real ID to play, to make sure you are over 18+. This policy targeted on mobile online game more than PC online game. A decent mobile phone is $200, a decent PC, not that cheap. Since a lot kids in China now have their own mobile devices, that made some school have to ban mobile devices during school time. It's fairly easy for me to find negative news about gaming all over Chinese media - "12yo kid plays mobile games until 3am", "My son swears a lot at 11yo age since he started playing PUBG Mobile" But what are kids gonna do during the 2 month long summer holidays and new years? I think 1 hour per day is extreme, and I hope it can be changed to 1.5 or 2 hours before 10pm, and controls by the parents(if parents have time...). I want to play game with my kids in the future, since it's a big part of me. But not until 3 am.. Thanks

Edge browser tells me that my settings are ''Managed by your organization'', and my browser doesn't give me any website search suggestions from history. I suspect I need to re-enable these two policies: AutofillAddressEnabled false SearchSuggestEnabled false But I don't know how to do that. Any advice?

Summary An announcement was posted by Netflix today on Facebook and their website stating that the password sharing policy they were testing in Latin America, which they later backtracked on saying it was a mistake, will be rolled out to more countries starting from today - 9th Feb 2023 Quotes My thoughts It seems that Netflix was lying when they said that the announcement was a mistake earlier this year. They seem to have gone into hiding to avoid upsetting it's users, only to pull the rug out from under everyone at the last minute. Sources https://about.netflix.com/en/news/an-update-on-sharing https://www.facebook.com/833905236643356/posts/pfbid02wHQTudBHMjdDR5YEvXWxiDYvC2MkDtnbF6QAFDc83yWdbgX9sSHvKMVA46ELHQArl/?sfnsn=mo&mibextid=RUbZ1f Screenshots added in case they decide to delete this announcement yet again

I'd like to support LTT where I can, but I won't white list a website if I don't know how the ads on it work. Do they actually screen ads or is it just a third party network that serves whatever it wants? If they actually screen their ads I'd be happy to turn off my ad blocker for the forums.

Adobe Reader DC making me cry inside because if something isn't working then I won't sleep. We have pushed out a few policies for Office, Chrome and Adobe which all work. Only to find that Adobe doesn't provide a policy to disable the 'Hello to easy file access' on first startup (surprise surprise).... Now, administrative templates from adobe will get rid of the splash screen and such, although this next screen needs to go.... Although many students won't be using PDF's (year 3 to 6), I want to provide a 'zero' touch experience for a first user logon (or even a user that decides to use PDF following months to come)... I've found that deleting the AcroApp and FTDialog Subkeys in the HKCU brings back this screen after going through this process, but adding these subkeys (with a dummy key inside) doesn't do the trick. I would think that the computer policy 'Show messages when I launch reader' set to disabled would handle this issue but no it doesn't... I've also got an issue on the Windows 10 laptops where I needed to apply a custom xml for file associations to stop 'Set Adobe DC for default PDF....' because of the 'zero' touch experience. Although this method doesn't work for first logon users since it only applies when relogon unless I change the OEMDefault....xml in system32 which doesn't seem necessary. Has anyone had to deal with this problem, or do you not use wet dog pdf reader like this one?...... Edit: (IGNORE) Also tried HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown with key bToggleFTE set to 1 (dword) and no luck... EDIT2: Okay so, it seems adding bToggleFTE to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\FeatureLockDown does work but not on all laptops (gpupdate /force twice) so I will report in a few hours if this solves my issue.

Hey all. Im working on a project for my uni course, and trying to figure out if what im wanting to do is even possible. What im needing is port forwarding based on the source IP In other words If client 1 accesses the routers public interface with port 22 he will be directed to server 1 but If client 2 accesses the routers public interface with port 22 he will be directed to server 2 (See attached Diagram) We have been round and round in circles with different methods shown by different people on other forums, but nothing seems to be working. And we get a mixed response whenever we search it of "It doesn't work that way" and "Oh thats easy, just do this" So any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Tom

I was just debugging why the origin website refused to load on firefox even though i had disabled every add on i run, so i opened it in microsoft edge and voila it worked. i get confronted with the typical cookie setting banner and as always i open it to set it to functional only. this time for funsies i decide to take a deeper look at the cookies i enable when i have it on the bare minimum, no statistics nothing. and on the bottom of the list i emediatly find a site statistics cookie(comScore u.mdotlabs.com, u.mdotlabs.com). (atleast i think this is statistics since it says so in the description of it). I'm really confused, why is this allowed when on functional only? this is clearly not a functionality cookie. i found other cookies such as SQUARESPACE(web design/hosting company)? jetblue(aviation company)? and cookies from a company that it lists as "Unknown", when i expand it it also states "Unknown" with after that a link to the privacy policy for the cookie vendor which leads to a 404 error. this just reeks of bad design and shittyness if you ask me. not even to mention that the service they use for cookie preferences called TRUSTe takes a HORRIBLY long time to update cookie preferences (it took me more than 5 minutes how hard can it be?). can somebody who knows wtf they are talking about explain to me if there is a good reason behind this or if this really is what it looks like at face value? TL;DR: are these cookies origin website forces with the bare minimum cookie setting justified or bullshit? also this is at the start of saving preferences: and this is when its almost finished: how in the world does this process take so incredibly long?

Dear Partner, Over the past year we've shared how we are preparing to meet the requirements of the GDPR, the new data protection law coming into force on May 25, 2018. The GDPR affects European and non-European businesses using online advertising and measurement solutions when their sites and apps are accessed by users in the European Economic Area (EEA). Today we are sharing more about our preparations for the GDPR, including our updated EU User Consent Policy, changes to our contract terms, and changes to our products, to help both you and Google meet the new requirements. Updated EU User Consent Policy Google's EU User Consent Policy is being updated to reflect the new legal requirements of the GDPR. It sets out your responsibilities for making disclosures to, and obtaining consents from, end users of your sites and apps in the EEA. The policy is incorporated into the contracts for most Google ads and measurement products globally. Contract changes We have been rolling out updates to our contractual terms for many products since last August, reflecting Google’s status as either data processor or data controller under the new law (see full classification of our Ads products). The new GDPR terms will supplement your current contract with Google and will come into force on May 25, 2018. In the cases of DoubleClick for Publishers (DFP), DoubleClick Ad Exchange (AdX), AdMob, and AdSense, Google and its customers operate as independent controllers of personal data that is handled in these services. These new terms provide clarity over our respective responsibilities when handling that data and give both you and Google protections around that controller status. We are committing through these terms to comply with our obligations under GDPR when we use any personal data in connection with these services, and the terms require you to make the same commitment. Shortly, we will introduce controller-controller terms for DFP and AdX for customers who have online terms. By May 25, 2018 we will also introduce new terms for AdSense and AdMob for customers who have online terms. If you use Google Analytics (GA), Attribution, Optimize, Tag Manager or Data Studio, whether the free or paid versions, Google operates as a processor of personal data that is handled in the service. Data processing terms for these products are already available for your acceptance (Admin → Account Settings pages). If you are an EEA client of Google Analytics, data processing will be included in your terms shortly. GA customers based outside the EEA and all GA 360 customers may accept the terms from within GA. Product changes To comply, and support your compliance with GDPR, we are: Launching a solution to support publishers that want to show only non-personalized ads. Launching new controls for DFP/AdX programmatic transactions, AdSense for Content, AdSense for Games, and AdMob to allow you to control which third parties measure and serve ads for EEA users on your sites and apps. We’ll send you more information about these tools in the coming weeks. Taking steps to limit the processing of personal information for children under the GDPR Age of Consent in individual member states. Launching new controls for Google Analytics customers to manage the retention and deletion of their data. Exploring consent solutions for publishers, including working with industry groups like IAB Europe. Find out more You can refer to privacy.google.com/businesses to learn more about Google’s data privacy policies and approach, as well as view our data processing terms and data controller terms. If you have any questions about this update, please don't hesitate to reach out to your account team or contact us through the Help Center. We will continue to share further information on our plans in the coming weeks. Thanks, The Google Team

Apple is clamping down on its own app refund policy, which it put in to effect a couple of weeks back. The returns policy enabled iTunes users to get their money back on digitally purchased apps within 14 days, although Apple reserved the right to refuse refunds if an app had been used for a significant amount of time. For example, if you bought a book, read it for an hour and then tried to return it, you likely wouldn’t have got a refund. Apparently, Apple is now working on a way to put a cap on the amount of refunds you can apply for, as many App Store users were attempting to use the policy as a way of demoing paid for content. Frequent refund seekers will now get a pop up message when purchasing new content, saying “I acknowledge that if I download this app within 14 days of tapping ‘Buy,’ I will no longer be able to cancel this purchase.” This message will appear for those who have a lot of refund requests tied to their account so it won’t necessarily penalize those with genuine app troubles. i think Google Play has similar functionality if i'm correct , where you have to contact the developer to return the money , or file a report on google play for refund , i can not comment on Apple as i don't own one . Hey guys, Just need some help we have a policy in place to push out a image in a network drive as everyone's background. However on our windows 8 machine's (mine as well as 4 others), it doesn't seem to happen. Although the weird part is that when you go into themes it has the picture there as the desktop background but it hasn't changed. If this didn't make sense just let me know Thanks Guys!

Hi guys, So, we have a domain controller at work, and we want to implement Roaming Profiles. When we go into the Users and Computer Active Directory on the Primary DC, every users' profile folder is directed towards "\\FileServer3\Profiles\%username%". However, once, some time ago, it was set to "\\FileServer1\Profiles\%username%". This was when FileServer1 was our primary FileServer. It's been decommissioned since then, and now FileServer3 is our primary FileServer, but when we try to log into the Domain as a Domain User on any computer, it says it can't find our profile folders which it says are supposed to be located at "\\FileServer1\Profiles\%username%". In other words, when we edit the path to the profile folder in the Primary DC, it doesn't update on the machines from FileServer1 to FileServer3. We've tried leaving the Domain and coming back to it, but it still doesn't update. Anyone have any idea why this is? Thanks, Vitalius.

Hi guys, Don't feel you need to answer all the questions. Any question you can help me with or advice you can give would be much appreciated. My workplace is planning on moving our employees over to Roaming Profiles at some point (where the profiles are on server and all computers on the network use the profiles there to log in, so it doesn't matter what PC you are on, you have all your things), and tbh we haven't dealt much with it. My supervisor has been toying with it and researching how to set things up and get it working, and I've been doing the same recently. I discovered that by way of Group Policy Management, I can basically set it up to where, when someone logs on to a new computer, their profile will download and it will give them everything they need/want. Their files/folders (Documents, Music, Downloads, Desktop, etc) will all be living on the server. They will never connect to it by way of Wifi or remotely (WAN) and only by Ethernet (LAN), so speed isn't a concern. One thing to keep in mind: All of our users, except for 3, are on Windows 7 Professional. 2 of those 3 are on Windows XP (due to legacy reasons), and the last one is on an iMac (the boss loves his Macs). All of our Servers and Domain Controllers are Windows 2008 Server Enterprise edition. How do I link a Group Policy to a Group? I have created a Group Policy to test with that has 1 of everything I want to be using (Applications, files, folders, Data Base connections, things like that), but I have yet to figure out how to link that to a Group. I have a Group with a Testing account in it. I'm just missing the part where I connect the two to where, when I log into the account, all of the Group Policy settings will take effect and the Profile will be a Roaming one. What is the easiest way to turn a .exe into a .msi package? I am very wary of online file format conversion (or package conversion in this case) tools. Too much uncertainty in regards to virus', malware, spyware, etc. I'll be using the .msi packages, once I make them, to update their programs and give new ones as time goes on. For those with experience with this, what advice do you have in how I should set this up? Basically, at first I was making a single policy with everything anyone could ever use and was going to say "Ok, this user gets these things and the rest don't.", like that. Then I realized how much a pain in the butt that would be to manage as it took 5 clicks and some typing to give a single user one "thing" (file, folder, drive, application, wtv). Now do that 50 times with 50 items. LOL NO. So, then I realized it would be better to have one generic policy (that covered everything everyone would need), and multiple unique policies based on department. Then I could just attach 2 policies to a single group, if that is even possible. I assume it is. Not sure if there is a more efficient way. We have around 50 employees in total right now and are going to be expanding in the near future (20 more people roughly), so ease of use is paramount to give us time to do other things. Lastly, how can I set a user to be able to write to a file, but not delete it? Basically, we are going to be using an intranet communication software. It will keep a history of their logs (for obvious reasons), which I want to allow to update, but not be deleted, and a copy to be kept on the server which will update either when the file gets bigger (i.e. more messages have been sent), or a new one is made (i.e. they empty it, which is against our policies, and it starts to fill up again). I can't come up with an elegant way to do that. *sigh* I am very adamant about using Group Policy to make Roaming Profiles (as long as that is the best way). My current method of updating user's ... well ... anything is to set a task in their task scheduler to run a Batch File that lives on a network drive that everyone has access to. This is not optimal at all. It barely gets by. Very very ghetto. Group Policy is basically the GUI version of what I want (mass updates for everyone, a centralized point where anyone can go to fix things, etc), which is epic. Thanks for any help you can offer, Vitalius

Nov 6th, Cooling-Off policy was introduced to 'protect' adolescents from game addiction, by reducing in-game rewards and even kicking the player out after a certain length of play. The kicked-out player is restricted from reconnecting for couple of hours. (eg. Korean LoL players will gain half the exp and gold after 3 hours, none after 5 hours) Follwing this ridiculous measure, Gender Equality and Family Committee (여성가족위원회) introduced 'Law of Game-Addiction'. This measure ranks gaming and internet media under 'addictive' category, treating them at the same level as drugs and gambling. This means the government can have iron control over 'gaming and internet media', just like they have for drugs and gambling. Major points to focus : Every games must go through monitoring set up by the government and game companies have to pay 'tax' (6% of their revenue, NOT pure profit. WAT?!!) Restriction on advertising 'addictive contents'. For safe and healthy environment, suitable education and 'advertisements' (propaganda) will be carried out to prevent addiction. The governments will support curing 'addicts'. (Decision whether you fall under the category of 'addicted' will be made by the government, on 5-year basis) All these will be carried out in a new organ. Unlike Cooling-Off policy, this policy covers the entire population, regardless of his age. Countless people have already signed up against this policy at http://www.k-idea.or.kr/signature/signature.asp The policy is yet to pass - no specific information given when it will be discussed. - Personally, I do not understand why Korea is sprinting backwards.'Computer Games' are scapegoats pretty much in everywhere. Government is tightening too much control, restricting the citizens in every ways possible - and this new thing is one of many imo. They are blindly restricting a huge global market, hindering Korea's game developers and E-Sports The day my access to Linus Tech Tips being denied can actually come at this rate, may be because I am a 'computer addict' LOL. I wonder how many people will lose their job if this policy passes. The gaming industry will be pretty much dead..
