Good day people, My Omen 17 laptop (specs below) doesn't use the Dedicated GPU to its full power when I turn off Optimus. I have done it both directly from BIOS, and from Omen Gaming hub. However, it works after rebooting the machine (once or twice?). And when Optimus is on, it never switches to my dedicated GPU, ever! Now, what do I mean by “doesn't use its full power?” I've checked my GPU usage, it in fact shuts off the iGPU in discrete mode, but my RTX 3060's base clock is capped at 810MHz as opposed to 7100 MHz during load. But still, its usage stays around 95%. I get around 20 FPS in games that I usually run at ~130 FPS. (E.g., Dying Light at maxed out settings) But When it gets fixed after I reboot, everything works as intended. So, at least my GPU is not dead. I've tried updating all the drivers, and played with the settings quite a bit. I tried installing Windows 10 Pro and see if it fixes it but during the installation process, my SSD doesn't show up in the list LOL! That's what kept me from doing it. I guess I have to format the SSD using another machine or use another SSD to do it. Or I can also try running Windows from an external HDD and see if it fixes it. I don't have any other ideas right now. So, what I'm asking you guys is, Is there any other way or troubleshooting option that you know of? Any kind of info helps! TIA --- OS: Windows 11 Home, 22H2 Laptop Model: Omen 17-ck0720nw Processor: Core i5-11400H GPU: RTX 3060 Laptop – 6 GB GDDR6 RAM: (2×8) GB DDR4-2933 MHz [Rated 3200MHz, but XMP option hidden in BIOS] Display: 17.3” FHD IPS (1920 × 1080), 144 Hz, 7 ms, 100% sRGB

I know it's usually the other way around, but it seems that some games (e.g. csgo) will not run integrated graphics unless I disable the dedicated GPU. I have a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming w/ a 4600h and a GTX1650 and would like to run lighter games on the iGPU but despite setting up both Nvidia Control panel and Windows Graphics settings, I cannot get some titles to do it unless I didable the 1650 from device manager (im which case csgo runs at 100+ fps, so the igpu isn't faulty). Any idea how to fix this?

Hello, I have an optimus laptop and I had a problem where it maxes out CPU usage and only barely uses the gpu to reach a target of an approximate of 60fps which doesn't sound too bad in theory but in reality I get an extremely inconsistent 40-55 fps even in super light games (TF2 for example, where I get 100% cpu usage and 10%~ gpu usage) the worst part is it drops to unplayable numbers after any kind of movement in game. Switching to dual channel ram from single channel actually fixed the problem a few years ago, until now... I went from 2x4gb at 2400mhz to 2x8gb 3200mhz reduced to 2400 since that's the max my laptop supports. Any ideas as to why changing the ram and still being in dual channel (as shown by CPU-Z) brought the problem back? (By the way I've tried setting games to only use the dedicated GPU, there wasn't a difference.)

How to know if a laptop have mux switch on board ? the reason why I am asking is that i have a Lenovo Ideapad gaming 3 2021 AMD5800h with an RTX 3060 which mentioned that the gpu have advanced optimus in the specs sheet released before march 2022 then they removed it in the spec sheet released march The Nvidia control panel does not report advanced optimus So I am suspecting that it actually has chip but they decided to disable it as a mean of separating the higher legion lineup form the ideapad gaming and I want to confirm it if possible the opposite thing happened with dell g15 which shipped with a mux switch and later enabled by a bios update I will attach photos of the board and pdfs of the specs The Board photo The specs before editing :https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ystxNsnJcQKjC58OjOYpGe_TVQsi0GAR/view?usp=sharing

Hello Everybody.. I know Linus and his crew are using the same New Razer Blade 2016 (GTX 1060) as daily driver.. So I'm wondering if anybody is having or have noticed frequent micro-stutters when doing basic tasking in windows 10.. for example opening any maximized window or when opening display settings window or by switching a background.image. i've noticed this issue a few days ago. I'm still not sure if was happening since day one..i s very minor but extremely annoying specially since this Laptop cost me almost $2000. One thing i'm almost certain is that its related with the Nvidia Software.. maybe Nvidia Optimus. I managed to fix (temporally) by doing a complete uninstall of the Nvidia Drivers. After a windows reboot and re-installation of the Nvidia Graphics Adapter the problem comes back.. I also tried different drivers versions.. including the one provided by Razer Support Website with no luck.. it seems to fix but again after doing a restart the problem comes back. if anybody can help me with troubleshooting this would be great.. please if you can try by doing the examples I mentioned you can replicate on your Razer Blade the micro-freezes i'm getting (basically the mouse cursor stops responding for like half a second) send me a reply.. ps. i have until Jan 15th to return this Laptop for a full refund from BestBuy. Thx!

My laptop is facing a tons of problem recently and I am deciding whether to sell it. I am facing random blue screen when idle(never blue screen when gaming) with code nviddiasys There is also electric noise(maybe coil whine? sound different from what linus video shows) and I notice after switch to gtx1070 only(off optimus) the sound disappear. And when the sound get louder, the blue screen will be most likely to occur... The optimus is behaving weird as it keep switching between hd530 and gtx1070. This causes random freeze when watching video(in edge and chrome). There is also several times where the screen turn black and start blinking.Even after restart the problem still exist and I have to use Fn+D to hard reset the laptop. I tried to roll back driver for both intel igpu and gtx1070 but nothing happen. Sorry for the bad english

I have an excellent condition XPS l501x laptop for travel use, and soon it will be my main computer in college. The notebook boasts a mighty i5 460m dual core CPU, paired with an nVidia GeForce 420m. Recently I have got my hands on a damaged Asus notebook, which has a quad-core i7 740qm. I was wondering if I could upgrade the CPU of my Dell, but looking around the internet discouraged me. Could somebody give advice about the situation? As far as I know the "Optimus" feature will not work with a quad-core, (because it has no GPU integrated,) therefore the XPS' motherboard will not boot with the i7. But there were l501x-es with 740qm-s and GF435m-s inside, which GPUs also have Optimus capability.

So I have a non-brand laptop thats equiped with a GT 640m and an i5 3230m. All output display ports are connected to the Intel gpu and therefore im having trouble with 3d vision. Even when connecting a 3d tv as a primary display, reinstalling drivers I cannot get the stereoscopic 3d option on Nvidias control panel to show up.

Ok so I've got an MSI GS65VR 7RF Laptop which for of those who don't know is the 2017 model of MSI's slim range of laptops. The Specs are: GTX 1060 6GB i7-7700HQ 32GB DDR4 256GB SSD 2TB HDD I've had this laptop for over a year now and have a love/hate relationship with it. I'm looking to change out to a different setup next year but for now I need help with some issues. The major thing, which i've been trying to solve since day one but gave up on until now is the LAG. Because this laptop has a 4K 60Hz Screen it is laggy. I mean just generally using windows is laggy. If i switch it down to even 1440p i notice a huge difference. I have tried many many things and have done hours of research on how to fix this but no luck. I have nailed it down to being Nvidia Optimus (The diver used to switch between onboard graphic and dedicated graphics). Because of this, whenever i'm not in a game, or doing something where optimus things I don't need a dedicated GPU. Windows thinks it has to start using my onboard GPU to do everything. I'm ok with this happening because I know that otherwise my computer would be on full ramp all the time but I would honestly rather just have a laptop that ran windows 10 smoothly. I understand that if i manage to get things working right that my battery will be crap but i'm ok with that because i'm plugged in 99% of the time anyway. I just want a way of making my laptop run smoothly. Please someone give me an answer that helps me and please don't just say "switch to gtx 1060 in nvidia control panel". It's deeper than that.

Hi guys, so I bought the new legion 740 15" and so far I'm loving it. one of the few less good things is the battery life. However, I saw on Dave2D's review this option to turn on a hybrid mode in Lenovo vantage. From what I understood it disables g-sync and runs Intel integrated graphics, saving battery life. However, my version of vantage doesn't have the hybrid version seen on the video I mentioned. How do I turn this feature on or how do I reinstall Vantage??? pls help I really could do with this feature for an upcoming flight.

Hi forum, maybe this is the wrong category, but I have a problem, which has been bugging me for quite some time now. I have a MSI GS43VR 7RE Laptop (7700HQ, GTX 1060), which I wouldn't trade in for anything else at the moment. Warranty just ran out, I have never ever had any problems with it. Apart from a software annoyance ever since the April Windows update. I do not use any bloat from MSI on this machine (no Dragon Center or things like that). The problem is with NVIDIA Optimus and Windows system processes. Bear with me, I have done a lot of research which I want to supply here too for everyone else. I will state the problem first: Optimus and Windows 10 seem to work quite well since Windows has it's own "run this program on this GPU" functionality. There are some rough edges though. My main concern is battery life, AND I use external displays at home (keep this in mind for later). Some of my scenarios throw the igpu/dgpu waggon over and the dgpu just keeps running and draining battery. For me, this has HUGE battery life consequences. See those ThrottleStop screenshots: GPU inactive: GPU active: In terms of battery life, this means if I do not notice the "problem", I get 1.5-2 hours of battery when using Word/Chrome on the go. On the other hand, I get 5-7 hours for the same scenario without the "problem". Now, for the question and the research: Note: The external display thing is central since on this machine, the miniDP and HDMI outputs are connected to the dgpu, whereas the internal display and the TB3 port connect to the igpu. This would be the normal case, I assume. First, if you have external displays connected and you allow UWP background apps, there is absolutely no hope. Windows will, after you disconnected the external display, never turn the dgpu off again unless you restart without any external displays connected. This is because there are at least 5 background apps running on the dgpu at all times (Skype, Netflix, Search, Cortana, ...). I think, starting Windows with a display connected lets the system think it's a desktop and turn off the battery saving measures. So far so good, I can manage to never start my laptop from power off or hibernate with an external display connected. Turning off background apps was also an easy fix, I even completely removed these annoying UWP apps outright. Nevertheless, sometimes (from my experience after either long sessions with external displays or the internal display being off for some time [screen sleep or external display only mode]) the system falls back into this "desktop" mode again and without a restart, the dgpu never shuts off after disconnecting the display even though the activity indicator shows no apps running. Looking into Task Manager, I can see that the "System" process uses the dgpu for about half a second copying something ("GPU1 - copy" using 1% of the gpu) just about whenever the dgpu tries to shut off (I can see a red flicker on the power button which is red when the gpu is off and orange when it's on). So, TL:DR I can keep my system in check as long as: I never start up with external displays connected and the internal display never goes to sleep when external displays are connected. This is not the end of the story as Windows seems to be inconsistent and I regularly have to reboot after I go mobile. Has anyone sort of similar or different experiences concerning this? I would love to exchange more stuff with you as I want to fix this to get a literally perfectly running system. Thanks for your time, Julian

I have a Gigabyte Aero 15x laptop with a i7 8750H and a GTX 1070 Max Q. In game I've noticed recently my framerate drops to ~30fps after I drop the resolution to 720p. Before I was able to hit ~120+ fps at 1080p. I checked task manager and it shows near 100% utilization of the intel graphics and barely 10-20% of the 1070. I tried reinstalling the drivers (with and without ddu) and also set the graphics card in nvidia control panel to the high performance 1070 both globally and specifically for the games I play and now I'm getting ~60fps at 1080p when before I got closer to double. Resource monitors show the intel graphics still has high utilization and the nvidia gpu having ~50% utilization. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Hello LTT-forum, I've just joined the forum because I found an interesting video about Optimus vs G-Sync https://youtu.be/RJfHr-Y57LY and I hope to get some more insight on the topic. This would also be a great video for the youtube-channel and I'd apreciate if you could explain when the intel gpu is the bottleneck on framerates and when not. Probably limited bandwith, thus a limited amount of fps can be send through the intel chip. As he explained in his video optimus can switch between the gpu on the processor and the dedicated gpu. That's why either Optimus or G-Sync will work on most laptops. I found one with a MUX-desing (not sure how that actually works, some kind of dedicated signal processor for the screen?) where you can reboot and choose between Optimus and G-Sync but most notebooks don't have that. I kind of want a notebook with G-Sync, but I'm concerned the dedicated gpu will produce more more power consumption/heat/noise than the intel gpu on light load applications. If I buy a notebook with Optimus i might waste money on a faster GPU and the limitation of bandwith won't add any performance. If you could test that for me it would be great, maybe with a new i7-9750H paired with a rtx2060 or rtx2070, which would be my preferred solution to buy. so in short form: - power consumption optimus vs. nvidia rtx on light loads - is optimus a big limitation to rtx notebooks additional question: is it worth to choose 2x 8GB DDR4-3000 CL16-18-18 over 2x 8GB DDR4-2666 CL18-19-19 in a notebook? sincerely, Christopher Optimus_Whitepaper_FINAL.pdf

Hello guys! It's been 2 weeks since I have got my first laptop. I really wanted the alienware 15, and that's what I got, however there was no option to buy it without g-sync( at least in my country), finally im not too much dissapointed on battery life cause of it's huge 99WH battery :). But I still think that it's kind of a waste to have such battery for 4-5 hours. And I know I cannot have optimus because dedicated gpu is directly plugged to the screen bypassing integrated gpu and all that stuff. However I was asking myself if there was any physical intervention that can be done to plug the integrated gpu, and get somekind of mux switch like on some clevo laptops, where you can choose which gpu to use at launch in bios. I don't know much of laptops and I'm afraid of warranty void if I open/touch something that I wasen't supposed to do. So I don't even know how it looks like inside, that's why i'm here, asking help for some expert guys who could enlighten me, even if the answer is just that nothing can be done(if possible with arguments to explain why, seems stupid but there is no reason to believe someone who doesn't give facts) :). Thank you very much for reading me :).

Hey everybody, this needs to be news: Are you considering buying an nvidia optimus discrete graphics card laptop?! You've seen a few youtube reviews or read a few articles and think you're all set, as we did..., you might be in for the nasty surprise we were in for! An already large and growing number of optimus laptops (1050, 1050ti, 1060, 1070 + intel integrated graphics) showcase micro-stuttering and momentary freezing when starting up applications, when clicking the right mouse button, or when changing certain win10 settings, and I'm talking about new laptops, yes, the ones you're considering purchasing! There is a microsoft forum complaints thread that's already got: 14293 views 46 pages new people complaining every single day no official fixes from nobody - nvidia, intel, microsoft Anyways, a small community formed around us people plagued by this issue, and we're trying to get the attention of tech news outlets, tech forums, youtube tech guys, anyone that can bring this to light. Because outside of forums nobody is talking about these stuttering freezing laptops, and this needs to change, people needs to avoid them and nvidia, intel and microsoft need to fix them ASAP. Check out the microsoft forum (i'll link it below) or google "intel + nvidia laptop freeze problem", check out on the microsoft forum results. Although there's tons of complaints on other platforms, on nvidia forums, intel forums and so on. This affects all brands and all makes so it's not manufacturer or price point dependent, so I think it's worth looking into, if you wanna purchase or if you're already affected or if you know someone who's considering an nvidia driven laptop. Almost all nvidia discrete graphics card laptops feature the optimus technology and it's kind of a lottery whether or not you'll be affected, better get documented. Also, if you can - twitter about it, send mails to tech news outlets, I dunno, get the attention of the man himself - Linus, help us out! More details on the microsoft page for everyone. Here it is: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/mobile-gtx-1060-freeze-problem/93e7004a-62b1-4211-8e37-4c136608865e

Hello, My friend has a Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming 7577. It has had an issue with graphics switching it's whole life and that issue has survived an SSD installation and a fresh install of Windows. Before I fresh installed Windows on a new SSD, it was running the original copy of Windows that it shipped with and none of the settings were changed. When I fresh installed Windows, I installed the latest Intel driver and then the latest Nvidia driver and then set the preferred graphics processor to the high performance Nvidia processor in the Nvidia Control Panel. I also check the Intel control panel and disabled any power saving and other things. I set the Windows power plan to High Performance and made sure that all graphics settings were at high performance. There is nothing related to graphics settings in the UEFI/BIOS. The UEFI/BIOS has been updated and Windows is fully up to date as well. I have tried to disable the Intel graphics in the Device Manager but then the Display becomes extremely laggy and runs at 1Hz since the display is connected to it internally. The problem is that most games (Rust, Star Wars, Minecraft, Battlefield, etc...) run on the Intel graphics instead of the Nvidia. Some games like Star Wars keep switching between the Intel and Nvidia graphics every 10 seconds which is extremely infuriating, like how does this even happen? Any help on this would be appreciated.

Hey guys! So something was bothering me for a long time... I got a Optimus laptop "Samsung Ativ Book 4" and it has 2 video cards: Intel HD Graphics 4000 and Nvidia GeForce 710M. My Intel card is integrated in my CPU which is Intel Core-I5 3230M and this video card is running my laptop and my display... So I was wondering if there is any possible way to disable the Intel card and use my Nvidia card for everything... Including my display. I can run most of the games with my Nvidia card, but for example some games that I want to try from the Windows 10 Store will run on my Intel card which will decrease my performance. Hoping to hear the best out of you guys. Thanks!

Hey guys, When amd freesync first came out, it was using the v-blank spec on laptops to achieve adaptive refresh rates. Since this spec is available on laptops with nvidia optimus (where the gpu is connected to the igpu when then goes to the monitor), why is gsync only on laptops without optimus/ desktop replacements. I tried doing research on it, but the only thing that came up was that incident that happened on early 2015 where a leaked driver allowed users of a certain asus laptop to have gsync capabilities.

While browsing the internet, I found a pretty awesome deal on a G4 (selling my z3c for lower prices than most and it would cover the cost). I am wondering if its worth the hassle to sell off my Z3C and switch over to the G4. My phone is my camera for when I don't have my DSLR or for when I need 4k/slowmo and my texting/calling device (mostly used for the camera). I have a Tab S 8.4 as a device for homework and notes, and a Moto 360 to pair the phone with. I like that my phone is waterproof, but ultimately it isn't essential to me (I'm too scared to use it after my Z2 was killed by water with the flaps shut (got it back for warranty, sold it, and bought Z3c for the same price I sold Z2 for)). I use my phone for hotspotting so I need some battery. What I want the G4 for is the camera and battery (Android L killed the Z3, M didn't fix it well enough). What do you think, gents? Is it worth my time to sell off my Z3c and buy the G4? Should I wait it out and see if I can snag a deal on a V10 or G5? I am fairly proficient in Android modding and feel comfortable rooting and installing custom ROMs. My Z3c is currently on Sony's Concept beta for Marshmallow, while the G4 only has 5.1.1 from LG. but also has CM13.

MBA trackpad and keyboard not working after Optimus install
Xeypax posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hello, let me get straight to it: The trackpad and integrated keyboard on my 2014 MacBook Air are not working anymore in Windows 8.1 (x64), Bootcamp after I installed Nvidia Optimus on it. Trackpad and keyboard are working if I boot into OS X and I have tried reinstalling the bootcamp support software almost 10 times now. An external mouse or keyboard are required to operate the machine in Windows, but it seems like uninstalling all Bluetooth-drivers makes the MBA detect a keyboard and mouse in Device Manager (see picture below).I have tried installing drivers for them, both manually (with bootcamp software folder) and automatically. Any help would be appreciated as I have been searching for similar issues on the internet for hours now with no luck. -
