Looking for ~1500NZD laptop for school.
AfricaByToto posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hey, I'm looking for a new laptop for around $1500 (NZD), preferably from PB Tech, as they are local but am open to any other alternatives. I'll be using this laptop for school, as my old laptop struggles to make it halfway through the day, so battery life is a priority for me, as well as decent performance so any light photo editing or similar activities that I may have to do aren't an issue. I appreciate the help, cheers. -
So my ps3 has been going crazy for 3 months, freezing, randon turn-offs, and blank screen. So on topic now... My ps3 has been doing things that drive me crazy, it has been freezing, shutting off ramdomly, and blank screens. I dropped my ps3 twice first one was not that bad... Only a few scratches. Second drop was fatal it made a big scratch and that was when the freezing happend. I then started to realize that the only way to turn on my ps3 was to insert a disc that had no smudges or scratches. I searched up youtube videos on how to fix my ps3 but it still didnt work i need help. But sometimes it would turn on then imediatly turn off 1st image is first drop. 2nd image is second drop.

Would you please look through my part list and give me feedback. https://nz.pcpartpicker.com/user/VNDL/saved/x8G23C I'm in NZ so options are limited and prices suck. I'll be adding the HDDs from my existing PC but they are the only bits I can reuse.

Hey guys I'm looking for a laptop to use on the go. I already have a good pc but I'm just looking for something I can travel with. It needs to be good enough to work on (I work from home and link to my works server), I'd like to be at least 1TB and have the ability to run your standard games like Skyrim on medium to high and of course have a CPU good enough not to take an hour to load a long video playlist like my current one. So far I've came up with these: https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/NBKACN71594/Acer-Aspire-F5-573G-51WN-Entertainment-Notebook-15 https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/NBKASU556019B/ASUS-F556UV-XO019T-Notebook-156-i5-6200U-8GB-DDR4 Any suggestions?

So last week (since world news covers jack shit) Kaikoura (near Christchurch) had a Massive 7.5 Earthquake. It lasted just under 2 minutes and absolutely destroyed anything in its path, Kaikoura is still trapped in as roads in and out are ripped up and landslides are covering other ones. Anyone with questions feel free to ask. There is only 2 or 3 deaths as far as i know.

Hi everyone My friend is wanting to get into PC gaming and asked me to give him a list of parts to build with. He mostly plays fps games and Warthunder/World of Tanks and he has a budget of around $1500 NZD. (I'm ordering all components from mightyape.co.nz to keep shipping simple) I've made up this list and was looking for any constructive feedback or recommendations SYSTEM: AMD FX 6300 8GB G.SKILL RipjawsX 1600MHz DDR3 Asus STRIX GTX 960 2GB Asus M5A97 R2.0 1TB WD Caviar Blue Corsair CS550M SilverStone PS09 Windows 10 64bit Home Acer K222HQL PERIPHERALS: I'm also looking for help on peripherals. He has a budget of about $500 NZD, he is looking at: Logitech G502 Logitech G310 Logitech G430 7.1 He doesn't really care what brand his peripherals are as long as they match. Any other recommendations? Thanks

Hey Guys, Was wondering what the best place (website) is to buy pc components. I live in NZ so prefer a NZ website but if there is an Australian one with cheap (or free) shipping that is cool too. Amazon and those sites' shipping is so expensive for NZ :c American, Canadian, etc websites are not preferred but if there is one with REALLY good shipping prices then that might be ok. Thanks :3

The quality of streaming on vessel is pretty bad for me in New Zealand. I am able to watch youtube videos at 1440p@60Hz, however vessel's service seems to stutter, or not load at all, when streaming 480p upwards. Is anyone else having these issues?

At this price you'd really be silly to get anything else. Valid for roughly a week from posting. http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=21711

Customs are seeking the power to require people to disclose passwords to their electronic devices when entering New Zealand. Failing to do so without reasonable excuse should be an offence punishable with three months prison, it has suggested. It said the power would be useful in helping detect objectionable material and evidence of other offending, such as drugs offences, as well as to verify people's travel plans. Many travellers were now carrying electronic travel documents, such as tickets and booking details, on computers and smartphones, it said. The change is one of several canvassed in a discussion paper on a review of the Customs and Excise Act that was released by the department today. Customs also wants its officers to be able to compel people to empty their pockets if asked. It said they did not currently have that power unless they had "reasonable cause" to suspect someone was hiding something. The discussion paper said it was rare for people to refuse to empty their pockets when asked. "However, even a small proportion of people refusing to do so can present a significant threat to New Zealand." Council for Civil Liberties spokesman Thomas Beagle said that under existing legislation, people could not be compelled to disclose passwords, but Customs had the right not to allow electronic devices to be brought into the country if people would not unlock them. Beagle said he believed that was "a good compromise". It could not be assumed people would always have the passwords to encrypted files on their computers or smartphones, he said. "They would be implying people couldn't travel with encrypted data at all if they didn't know the password for it." Another change would let businesses hold their business records overseas, rather than in New Zealand. But Customs said that should only be with its prior approval. The change would make it easier for "trusted businesses" to take advantage of overseas cloud computing services and would bring the department more into line with Inland Revenue's policies, Customs said.

Discounted from $500 until midnight, at this price it's probably worth getting over the 970's which typically come in at around $600-700 depending on model. I ordered one about an hour ago. http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=21381

So I BADLY need a new upgrade as my specs (check sig) are terrible and can't even play videos correctly and I can barely have five tabs loading at once without it totally crashing. Also i'll be using Linux because i totally love it so much. most popular games work under wine and more games are coming out for linux than ever before. 1. Budget & Location Budget = NZD$1700 Location = New Zealand 2. Aim I will be doing mainly alot of Linux gaming and a tiny bit of Linux dev/experimenting. The first games i will play will be Half Life 2 as well as the episodes which I just brought on the first day of summer sales. Also in my steam account is portal (both one and two) Dota 2, TF2 and Serious Sam 3. I will keep my current computer if I ever need to play a dvd, my new one won't have one seriously who needs one these days?!, or have a mate over and he can game and i'll just be on the net or whatever. I'll also try tell him how much he sucks and i could have made that shot with my eyes closed so yeah just the typical stuff. (PM for my steam ID if ya wanna play.) 3. Monitors Monitors = 1 x 23" screen 60Hz 5ms. I might get a new screen in the future so I can have a dual set up but honestly not sure yet. 4. Peripherals Peripherals = I will be testing out keyboards and mice in store so I will decide on the spot. I'm thinking Func MS-3 for my mouse and some Cherry MX Reds but i havn't tried any mechanical keyboards thats why I wanted to try some instore. Maybe tell me what you're favouite is and what you use them for. 5. Why are you upgrading? The reason i'm upgrading is because my current set up (specs in my sig, not trolling) is unusable for gaming. SPECS: OS: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Ubuntu really beautiful and as much as other people don't like Ubuntu I think it does a great job. CPU: Intel i5 3.2GHzi won't do any overclocking so this is alright? CPU Cooler: Just going for the stock cooler because i'm not going to overclock. maybe i'll pick up a raidator in the future if i decide to get my clock up to 3.5GHz but that won't be soon. GPU: Nvidia 660 ti. The reason i'm picking a Nvidia card is because i've heard they have had better support. RAM: 8GB of whatever brand, because i don't think it matters too much if im correct. Case: Bitfenix Ghost. It's a really beautiful case in my opinion. also quiet and space for tons of drives. Motherboard: ?? haha someone help me on this please. they all do the same thing pretty much. Storage: WD 500GB. Linus convinced me to pick WD because of the computex coverage. might go for a green drive because it was quieter. PSU: Seasonic 650w Cooling: The Ghost comes with two fans and i'll also get 4 x Corsair SP120 quiet edition fans. Sound: Just going to use my marleys with onboard sound. Also gonna get a wifi card because my board doesn't have on board wifi. It won't be a USB one because in my experience USB ones overheat kinda easily. If you read all that then thanks. please comment on your thoughts or send this to someone who can help. i'm hoping to get this done before school starts again which is on two weeks. Edit: spacing and sizing Edit2: forgot to talk about Linux

we have just started a new server with my friends and myself and i’m looking to get a few more people to play on it. we are running on the server FTB direwold20 pack (latest version) Requirements: 16 and over able to talk on TeamSpeak play regularly have a decent ping to NZ (sorry european players) I will give preference to Aus and NZ players because the server is being hosted in NZ Rules: Absolutely no Griefing No exploits No asking for OP Have fun Slots: I would like to keep it to 10-15 people Ram: 3Gb Cores: 3 No banned items so far but that could change if someone abuses it(ex. Mining laser, TNT). Please no x-ray vision mods. I don't mind maps that show cave systems but would prefer nothing else. Server is still being worked on occasionally but nothing major The minecraft difficultly level is currently set at 1 but that can change if enough people would like it more difficult. It was only set there because it's the default and so far there are only about 2-4 people that play on it and most are never on all at once. Feel free to ask me any questions as I might have forgotten to mention something. Thanks, icey apply for whitelist by replying to this thread or PM me with: Age: Countrey: IGN:

Hey guys so if anyone in New Zealand isn't familiar with the upcoming Hell Pizza promotion. This coming Friday Hell is releasing the "Angry Dragon" Pizza with it billed as the hottest pizza in Australia and New Zealand it is topped with the Carolina Reaper Chili. If you go in store and eat a whole pizza I believe both Snack and Double size qualifies you get a refund on the pizza, some "Dragon Slayer" underpants and a certificate. Article on the pizza http://www.nzherald.co.nz/lifestyle/news/article.cfm?c_id=6&objectid=11265428 I'm going with a few friends and possibly my dad, this should be very fun.

Currently doing a build for my sister in a white Bitfenix Prodigy and wanting to use the leftover white corsair sleeved cables in a Silverstone 600W PSU is it possible to switch the connectors on the wires in order for them to fit and have them work? Has anyone done it before? Otherwise I have a short cable kit and the right tools, but sourcing sleeving in NZ at the moment is impossible, no-one is selling it, and the Lutro store in down due to them moving building. Also could I buy a 24 pin ATX Sleeved Extension and mod it to plug straight into the PSU? It would be just like a short cable kit. Anyone with experience in experimenting with this? Regards, Tim
