Summary Already in the past, Plex GmbH has made some unpopular decisions in the further development of its self-hosting media library and streaming service. (As already shown in some videos on the LTT Youtube channel). Now they seem to want to crack down on piracy and the distribution of it through their products with little regard for long-time legal users. Over the past few hours, Plex users running their server on a VPS or dedicated server at Hetzner have received an email stating that Plex will completely block access to these servers hosted at Hetzner as of October 12 in accordance with your terms of service. In the official Plex forums, the incomprehension of the users towards this decision is already apparent a short time later. to completely block one of the largest cosumer hosting providers. Especially users from countries like Germany, where upload rates for their private Internet connection are around 30 MBit/s according to Statista (https://de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/416534/umfrage/durchschnittliche-internetgeschwindigkeit-in-deutschland/), operating with a cloud provider is often the best solution for watching high-resolution movies on the road or with the family. Many posts from users also question whether this step is actually able to stop criminals from sharing copied movies, as they are likely to have switched to another cloud provider within a few hours. Also the statements and explanations of the Plex employees do not make the users feel comfortable, because they seem very dismissive and little explanatory. My thoughts Making piracy and its distribution more difficult is an important step that even product manufacturers like Plex need to address. However, I doubt that this is the right approach. Many users who either don't have a fast enough internet connection or don't have the hardware at home to follow the Plex staff's recommendation and run the Plex server at home will have to look for alternatives like Jelly to continue enjoying their media library. This approach will probably only cost Plex more users and will have no real effect in the area of piracy. There is also the question of whether users of other hosting providers will face similar problems in the future if it is now the official company policy to block hosting providers. We have many devices that are controlled via IR remotes. (Beamer, TV, Soundbar, reciever, screen, fire tv stick) I wondered if having an stationary IR blaster connected to a phone or Alexa or something is a good way to automatize things and make it controllable via phone. (Eg: Turn on Soundbar, switch to HDMI input and roll down screen when beamer is turned on) I found some for under 20 bucks on Amazon but the reviews were kinda inconclusive if that would work.

I have been interested in creating a small form factor computer to be used as a NAS server and to display movies and other media to my TV. The amount of data being transferred to the server would be low and it would be primarily used for displaying movies and videos. Is this possible and if so what are the minimum components that I would need for this computer? Requirements: Store pictures, movies, and other data. Display movies, videos, and other media to a TV at 1080p. It must be in mini ITX form factor. On a strict budget.

Hello LTT forum! Here I am starting a new project: A multimedia windows 10 pc for my dad. I will go in more details but feel free to ask for more info if needed. Budget: 400 to 600 euros Location: France Aim: Multimedia windows 10 pc, not too loud preferably, capable of running Skyrim enhanced edition in good quality. See this computer as the one sitting in a bedroom desk which could be hooked up to a tv in front of the bed. To be used as a workstation for basic programs, few games and mostly internet and movies from the desk or bed. I don't have a preference for intel or ryzen. I have a slight preference for Nvidia. I know how to build computers but I don't feel easy giving a watercooled computer to my dad, given my budget (birthday gift) I am pretty sure I couldn't afford or need a good watercooled system anyway. I think an i5 core woumd be enough for his uses? With 8 or 16 gig ram? (he browse a lot of internet tabs at the same time and never close them). After, I have no clues. Peripherals: the price of the build doesnt include the screen, 2 small speakers, 2 bigger speakers for the tv screen, steam controller, keyboard and mouse. RGB : Sorry, no Rgb Here is the start of my project, it's not complete or professional. That's why I come here for help from you guys, to have fresh ideas and good results. I would need the rig to be complete for beginning of August. Thank you very much for the help. Tell me if I can provide more infos.

Hello guys, I have a 9.7 ipad pro 2016. Recently I've been doing my work on it while on the go and I can say that I am really enjoying it. My only problem is this - when I have to make a presentation, up until now I've had to transfer my stuff to a Windows PC(I do not have any other iOS device) and present from there. I know there are Lightning to VGA/HDMI adapters, but for me 120$ for a single adapter isn't a good deal. Can I run it with some kind of dongle atleast like the MacBook so that I get more for my money? Can any of you more experienced users recommend me something?

Today I got me first mechanical keyboard and though I'm completely satisfied with it, I have one issue. For the volume control, instead of dedicated multimedia keys, it has an FN key + F2 etc. I really can't live like this, is there any way to eithert: 1. Toggle the FN key on/off instead of it being press and hold so at least I can use the volume controls like that even if it renders the F keys "useless" 2. Reassign three of the F keys that I never use so they are dedicated multimedia keys For option 2 I did a bit of research but it didn't seem simple enough to me. Any easy ways to do any the these? Edit: keayboard is Motospeed Inflictor CK104

I make it quick and dirty this time. You offer great help and I dont want to waste your time, but rest assured I thought my part already. I want to build a mini pc (think hometheater) in a small case. I want to be able to have two monitors at 1080p running on it (whit the programms mostly on one). Its a multimedia setup, means streaming movies at 4k (max. one at a time), butter smooth netflix, plex, crisp internet browsing with 7 tabs open, you get the idea. The tricky part is I also want to play certain games at 1080p with 30fps (pref. 60 fps). Games narrow down to league of legends, hearthstone, world of warcraft and rocket league. Medium settings are more than fine. Thats all I ever do on my pc so the idea now is: Make it as powerfull as needed (no more overkill, no more "for five dollars more you could get this and this") > as cheap as possible >= as small as possible I was thinking a small form factor case, mini itx with wifi and bluetooth, 4gb ram, good cpu with integrated graphics that can power these games, stock fan and small factor power supply with like 350w or something and good ssd + hdd storage for movies etc. It should run windows 10. So what would you say. Thank you very much already.

http://www.venomcomputers.com.au/ It seems Venom has finally updated their website in the long time it's been since they refreshed their models with Skylake. I believe the new BlackBook Zero 14 could be their first notebook to feature Intel Kaby Lake processors. If it's anything like the previous generation BlackBook Zero 14, and depending on which model you choose, it will probably have a Core i3-7100U, Core i5-7200U, or Core i7-7500U. Intel HD 620 graphics will most likely provide the graphical horsepower, again, going by their Skylake 14 model.

I am trying to build this customized infotainment server from scratch. I need only 2TB total data storage capability. I'm kinda on a budget (about $4500). The server will have data written to it initially and is expected to serve 500 people all trying to stream 480p movies at the worst case. (assuming using Gigabit Ethernet). So far I have researched a lot on the server configurations and figured that I'll use 16x128GB SAS HDDs (15K rpms) in RAID 0 (as I'm not currently concerned about reliability or up time). I'm kinda a n00b when it comes to server management (and no, I don't want to involve professionals. I wanna do it myself). I'm kinda confused regarding the data rates that'll be required for the above requirement to serve so many people. Will setting up a mirror for access help improve the performance ? I'm also confused about the processing capabilities that this server will require. Like will I really need Xeon processors for this (considering the fact all videos are pre-processed and just needs to be served) or will I be able to get away with an ordinary dual core or quad core ? Please advice me in this regards. I'm willing to learn whatever it takes. I'm comfortable with networking but a beginner in storage systems.

Hi everyone! I wanted to know if anybody can help me with my new workstation. We are a couple and we are planing to build a new PC for 4k Video editing, audio recording and production, engineering and architectural desing (BIM), and some soft gaming. And our goal is to have only one workstation for both of us. We use principally Davinci Resolve in ubuntu studio and we try to only use Linux. So i need advice in 2 things. First of all, Software: It's possible to have 2 independent users in linux running at the same time with independent graphics server each one?. Something like have a PC for each one. That should be the same use as run a virtual machine for the second user (like in the video with the hackingtosh VM), but due that we uses the same software, the same distro, and the same files, i think that run without a VM would be better. And like that i think i don't have to concern about to give to one or another "pc" more or less cores or ram or whatever depending in wich of us are doing the more resource hangry task. (because that will be automatically did... or not?). And well, sometimes i need a windows machine that will be a VM but that happens only once each week or less. And Second of all, Hardware: What PC i need? I think that a 3900x with 32gb of ram would be good enogh. I haven't selected yet a GPU but in this moment nvidia is less problematic with Linux than AMD. In the ideal Scenario of having one distro runninng with 2 users, is possible to have 2 GPU? one for each user. What cards would be better under 600 (that doesn't have to be the same because not rarelly we use the pc at 100% of capacity at the same time). or in what i need to think for get one? Also i have a great doubt with the storage. I have a 500gb nvme and some hard disks. Normally i use the ssd only for all the software and the hard disks for media and all the archives, but for video and audio edition, what is the recomended read speed i need from a drive for be able to work with multiple tracks? I have had crashes with my usbHD that works at 100mb/s. Do i necessarily need a SSD for save the video and audio files? Thank you very much! If anybody knows a forum for read about this multi-user things i will be happy to see.

Hi guys, I'm looking for a monitor that I can use to: -play games (not fps or competitive, but more story-focused games like the new Star Wars Jedi: fallen order) -use for occasional 3D modeling with SolidWorks or engineering simulation programs -watch movies and tv series. I was thinking about a 27 or, even better, 32 in monitor with a resolution of 1440p, an IPS panel with good colors, a refresh rate between 60 and 120 hz and a good pixel response time. My budget is around 300 euros. Does something like this exist on the market? My hardware configuration is: i7 4790 Asus Z97-A 16 gb ddr3 1600 hz Radeon RX 5700 Than you in advance for any suggestion.

Hi all, I'm going into my senior years of highschool next this year and have chosen a fair few CAD and multimedia based subjects. My school requires that I get a laptop for this year anyway but these subjects will require a bit more power than your avarage Chrome book. The main programs I'll be using are PTC creo Parametric and Simulate along with the Adobe suit. I'll be rendering 3d objects, short films and animations as well as possiblely runing engineering simulations. What kind of budget should I be setting to meet these needs? Does anyone have any recommendations for devices? Thanks

We have 34 rooms in our hotel, there we want to make available some videos in each tv per room. So, maybe, I will have between 15 to 25 users using this service at the same time. How should I choose the proper NAS for that? Should I use SSD against HHD? Thanks.

Hi everyone, I've been reading my fair share of posts and can't seem to find existing advice that works for me. Being a NAS/Server noob it might also be my lack of understanding. To offer some context, I recently bought a LG 55C8 with the idea to be enjoy & stream 4k content using Plex Media Server. I currently own a Nvidia Shield Pro and I have to admit it's a strong disappointment. It does it job with 1080p content if you get passed the bugs, freezes, laggy android interface and if Plex doesn't crash as well. However, when it comes to 4k content, it's like playing russian roulette. One piece of content might work one day and the same content will make Plex and the whole Shield crash the next day. Very frustrating. FYI, I only use my Shield for Plex. Overall I feel I'm better off building a dedicated and more stable config that would store and manage my media and can be controlled by my laptop through WiFi (storage mgmt, file transfer etc...). I mainly stream video content (file size between 2gb and 20gb) as well as high res lossless audio. FYI, I don't require to stream multiple files at the same time. Transcoding one 2160p or 1080p at the time. NAS configs seem to be ideal when it comes to storage, I'm however doubtful for 4K transcoding without spending my money on a premium set. Below my questions, Can I find something below $500 ? What brand do I need to look at? A lot of NAS have dual or quad-core Intel Celeron processors. Is that good enough? Do NAS with GPU exist? If my NAS is used for storage, is it better to run PMS on it or through a 3rd party? Knowing that I will probably use the Plex App on AppleTV or LG WebOs to stream the content. If my TV, Apple TV and NAS are all connected directly to a smart switch I suppose I will be able to use to full extend of an internal Gigabit speed? Looking forward for getting help and advice on this.

Hey all I'm looking for a pretty rare and hard to find multimedia 5.25 bay accessory, specifically the Antec Veris Premier. I cannot find it in Australia, USA or Europe, and not even Ebay, Amazon or PC part shops can help me. Do any of you have any leads or own one yourselves that you'd be willing to sell and ship to Australia? I'd be willing to pay well for a unit in good condition with everything including the remote and driver CD and I will pay for the shipping Thanks all

Hello, I have a keyboard with the standard layout of media keys (see below) on the top and they all work as intended. However when I use the "music" media function key on my keyboard it opens Groove music. How can I change it so that it opens Spotify instead of groove music. Tried to fiddle around with the default app settings and can't find any way to change it. Is this even possible?

Hi, so I'm building a new computer for my grandpa to replace his old HP prebuilt PC from 2008. It is not exactly an HTPC, but has similar, non gaming specs. Budget: Under...520 euros (around $650) Aim: Net browsing, video streaming and light gaming (nothing more than classic esports titles) Peripherals: Two Full HD screens (one monitor and one TV connected for viewing movies) Here are the specs. The mobo may not be compatibile with a Raven Ridge cpu according to pcpartpicker, but I found that a bios update is available. Is there anything I should change or replace? Hi guy, first time posting so hopefully this isn't a repeat discussion that I'm asking. I have two monitors a QHD 32" and FHD 27" and I use them for both computer gaming/everything else you do on a computer and as a home media set-up for TV, console gaming, and music listening that passes through my Pioneer AVR (4k compatible with HDCP 2.2 and 4.4.4 color scale). One of the things that I noticed is that when I attempt to watch standard 720p or 1080p content from my media equipment it doesn't scale properly to my more preferred 32" QHD monitor so I've switched to watching everything on the smaller lower res 27". I'm now currently in the market to replace the 27" with a larger 32" but, I'm undecided if I get a second QHD with high refresh, or try and find a 4k 32" that might scale better or, if either of them will scale better since computer monitors don't have up-scaling processors like you would find on a TV or projector respectively and I'm just SOL. I'm wondering if you guys have any experience on this situation or thoughts on things I can try that might improve current compatibility (cables, inputs, settings, ect.). Thank you folks, all feedback is appreciated! P.S. Sorry for the long backstory

Sorry if this isn't the right thread, but I'll try anyway. I recently got the daskeyboard ultimate 4 and I was wondering if there was an Add-on for Firefox for the multimedia keys so that I can use them to skip a video on YouTube for example. Would be really helpful and convenient, so I don't have to tab out of my vidyas to press 1 button.

Hi Everyone! Here is a "short" introduction of what i already have for mi Server. ************************* INTRODUCTION ************************* 1- Sorry for my English, it's not my native language! 2- I have already bought and asembled the Hardware of my Server, here it's the parts list: Motherboard + CPU: Biostar A68n-5545 + AMD A8-5545 Quad Core (Base 1.7Ghz - Turbo 2.7Ghz). RAM: 2x Hyper X Fury 8Gb 1866Mhz (I know it's overkill but i had them for free). CASE: Riotoro Cr280 Mini Itx. HDD: 3x WD Red 4Tb & 1x WD Blue 1Tb. PSU: Thermaltake Tr2 500 500w. 3- I already had this OS's available for use: Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter. Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials. Windows Server 2016 Datacenter. Windows Server 2016 Essentials. Windows 10 (Multiple Editions). Windows Server 2016 Nano. Ubuntu (All Versions). Easy Right? ... But No...At lease for my! The thing is... I want to Stream movies to my Smart TV's & Tablets and share files with all my other devices, but i want the ability to choose who can see and/or edit those files (Not the movies, i don't care about movies). I don't want to make a Domain Controller and create or migrate all user acounts to an Active Directory. This, unfortunately, is not an option. TL;DR: No Domain Controller with Active Directory. Ability to choose the level of access of the files. Ability to Stream Movies to my Smart TV's. No login required in any device. If Someone can help my with some ideas or solutions i would appreciate so much! Question -> How give permissions to users BY FILE, without creating a Domain Controller/Active Directory? Thanks!
