Summary In an interview with Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun, Canon's chairman & CEO Fujio Mitarai stated that the company's development and production of flagship DSLRs will wound down "within a few years." Canon's current DSLR flagship, the EOS-1DX Mark III released in 2020, will be the last flagship DSLR model. Quotes There were some news publications like Y.M. Cinema and Photo Rumors interpreted Mitarai's words to mean that Canon has officially announced the end of all of their DSLR lines. Canon has responded that the scope of Mitarai's statement is only for their flagship DSLRs. It is expected that all production of their flagship DSLR to stop within a few years, although exact dates have not been confirmed. My thoughts This is very interesting now that Canon will officially move development and production towards mirrorless systems. It was known that mirrorless would take over and that the DSLR would die sometime. I'm excited for the future to see what new mirrorless systems Canon will come out with. Sources Y.M. Hi all, After much deliberation and second guessing my choices, I recently purchased a Sony A7rii (my other choice was an A7iii, upgrading from a Canon 6D). I've got a body now, but I'm looking for a solid lens combo or a recommendation from anyone with experience. I'm trying not to spend much more than $1500 on my lens(es). I'm definitely interested in looking into the used market. I primarily shoot portraits, but I also love to do landscapes. My only requirement is that the lens have autofocus, because not only do I suck with manual focus, but I'm also relatively lazy (lol). Since the a7rii has IBIS, image stabilization is not a must-have. I've been looking at getting these: Samyang 18mm f/1.8 (for landscape) Sony 85mm f/1.8 (portraits) Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 (mainly as a multipurpose "do-it-all" lens). --> Is there a big enough difference between the 75mm f/2.8 and 85mm f/1.8 to warrant buying a whole new lens? I've never actually shot with primes before. I used the 24-105f4L on my Canon 6D as my main and loved it. Are they that much better than a zoom? Like I said before, please feel free to suggest lens combos you love or have worked for you! Thanks

One of my buddies is looking for a camera, he is tossing up between the Nikon D3400 and the Panasonic G7. He will be doing a lot of event photography as well as some video recording. With both cameras he will have to work off the stock kit lens provided. Preferably just provide information on which camera would be better for his use case. Feel free to ask any more questions. Thanks in advance

Can anyone find or know of a camera that can record 4k for under 300usd? I don't care if it is used or refurbished, but it can't be a action cam or point and shoot(kind've only camcorder, dslr, or mirrorless). edit: at least on par with the Sony AX33 or Panasonic G7 edit 2: just scored a Panasonic G7 for 250$!!- 13 replies

Hey everyone, Would absolutely love some help/insight here.... I'm looking to get a new camera for both photo and video (not sure which one i'll be shooting more of at the moment), and have been researching: Panasonic GH5: https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DC-GH5KBODY-Mirrorless-Camera-Bluetooth/dp/B01MZ3LQQ5 with this lens: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/panasonic-lumix-42-5mm-f-1-7-g-asph-optical-telephoto-lens-for-micro-four-thirds-black/4331867.p?skuId=4331867 Fujifilm X-T2: https://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-X-T2-Mirrorless-Digital-Body/dp/B01I3LNMAM/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1491359469&sr=1-3&keywords=fujifilm+X-T2 with this lens: https://www.amazon.com/Fujifilm-16418649-Fujinon-XF56mmF1-2-R/dp/B00HK8Z9AG/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1491359741&sr=1-1&keywords=fujinon+56mm+1.2 Clearly I'm allocating more money for a better lens on the fuji, considering the lesser price of its body. But I feel the more research I do, the more torn I become between the two. They both seem stellar, with the fujifilm being more focused on photos it seems, and the panasonic focused on videos. My main requirement for videos is 4k and good/fast autofocus while recording, and have heard people are disappointed with the GH5's autofocusing. 60fps at 4k isn't really a big deal for me, so which camera do you guys suggest I go with? Again, any insight would be phenomenal. Thanks!

I want to buy a new camera or camcorder for my GF. She has been doing photography for about 6 years with her sony a330 (parents bought it for her back in HS). She is close to finishing up her undergraduate degree and will be taking a videography class but her sony a330 does not support film. So in anticipation of her needing a a camera/camcorder for her last few classes and use after graduation, I would like to buy her one. Some of what I have been looking at: Mirror less dslr: Panasonic Gh4 Panasonic gx85 Panasonic g85 Panasonic g7 Panasonic gx8 Sony alpha a6300 Sony alpha a6500 Sony alpha a7 Sony alpha a7 II Camcorders: Canon Xf100 Sony Ax100 Canon g30 Canon XA30 Canon XC10 Canon - VIXIA HF G40 Sony HDR CX900 Sony AX53 Sony AX33 Canon - VIXIA HF G20 Panasonic - HC-VX870K 4K So I am not really trying to pick a specific device NOW ( but if you have a recommendation please share , will be buying in the next month or so), my main question is: Since her camera is so old would one of the mirror-less dslrs that I listed be drastically better (or slightly better) at stills? If so, then it would make sense to buy one with recording function and forget about camcorders? Or should she stick with the sony A330 and get a camcorder? I will be getting an aftermarket audio solution for either option Thanks to anyone reading this!!

So I'm researching some cameras and I've come across a few that could work for my needs without being too expensive but I think i need more help here. I'm really looking for a camera that will record long sessions without a problem and also be used as a Webcam. I know there are a lot of Canon and nikon DSLRs that will work with programs like digicam. But I also found a nex-7 which isn't listed. However, the nex-6 is. Has anyone gotten the 7 to work with it? Also any other recommendations for something around $300? Keep in mind I also have hdmi capture for my computer.

I am new to the photography scene and I was looking for a new camera for around $700USD. The main purposes would be family use, with a bit of sport photography and film making on the side. I identified the Sony Alpha A6000 as a pretty good mirrorless camera due to its compactness and price. The lens i was planning on using was the 55-210mm lens. However, some cameras in the 'compact' and 'bridge' class touched my eye. Would these cameras be better for my use? Cameras being tossed up: - Sony Alpha A6000 (mirrorless, inter-changable lens) - Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II - Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ100 (4K video) - Nikon Coolpix P900 (83x Optical Zoom) - Canon PowerShot G9 X - Sony CyberShotDSC-RX100 III If there is another camera (of any type) that you think would suit me, or if you have any specific or general experience with these cameras your help would be much appreciated!

Upgrading From Kit Lenses Looking For Help
monster0429 posted a topic in Photography and Videography
Hello everyone. I purchased a Sony a6000 with 2 kits lenses about 9 months ago. I have done a lot of shooting to figure out what sort of prime focal lengths I use and what would be best for me. I have narrowed down my options to the following and am hoping to get some advise from you all. I am going to be purchasing 3 different lenses and have narrowed it down to 2 different sets. I have adjusted the focal length to match what my camera will be spitting out due to its 1.5x crop factor. They are as follows. This first set of lenses are my "cheaper" options. They are all from different brands but fall nicely into the focal lengths I am wanting along with being much faster then my kit lenses. Sony 30mm 2.8-350$ Sigma 45mm 1.4-290$ Rokinon 127mm 1.8-300$ $940 Total This second set is kind of an all in one package. They are all from Sigma, all WAY faster then my current lenses but because of these facts are more expensive if only by about $200. Sigma 24mm 1.4-Bundle Sigma 45mm 1.4-Bundle Sigma 84mm 1.4-Bundlle $1120 Total I have never used anything other then my sony kits lenses which are below. Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 Sony E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 Now onto the type of photography I have fallen in love with to help maybe point you all in the right direction. Primarily I am a landscape/nature photographer which is why I am looking for at least one longer reaching prime lens hence the reason for the 127mm and the 84mm. The second most common type of photography is portrait. The third and something I am only now deciding to get into is Boudoir photography, I haven't decided if I like it yet thou as I have only been practicing on my wife while I wait to get better glass and improve my overall skills. -
The widely discussed hot topic DSLR vs Mirrorless Camera?? But with a new turn - in consideration with videography - which is better and that too 4k at 60fps video. And to make the matters worse let us compare finely in the budget to middle tier upto $850. So, guys lets find out via discussion which one holds the crown. ? Ultimately I gave to buy it so simply lets find out who delivers the best performance at the best price point.

Hey guys, I bought a Nikon 1 J5 so I could stream on twitch (lovely camera), but I now realize, I can't stream with it! Haha. Is there any software for Mirrorless Digital Cameras to stream with? I know there's stuff for dslr's. I tried Sparklecam and a couple others, but nothing worked. I'm guessing I'll need hardware, but I don't know what kind. The camera has a mini-USB and mini-HDMI so I don't know if I can plug that into my 770 and stream or what. I'd like to stay as cheap as possible, since I won't be profiting from the stream at all. Any help would be much appreciated, and if there's anything you need to know, say so, and I'd be glad to tell you. Well, most anything. I have a feeling that'll be taken out of proportion

Short version - looking for a mirrorless alternative for a Nikon D5200 for about $450 maximum - to keep same good image quality. Not against "used" possibilities. More context. Have been using a Nikon D5200 for 2+ years. Generally for home photography (vacations, events, etc). Recently got a 70-300 lens which I've used on a vacation and really really liked how the longer range images turned out. Especially my wife appreciated how a few of her photos turned out even though she didn't realize the difference. I did sell the lens afterward, just because there was no autofocus on it, had to try and see The most common issue I've encountered is the weight and size of the camera. It feels like a tool of a trade, not a gadget. Has a bunch of functions and features - but I still end up using one of the programmed functions 99% of the time. Just doesn't seem to be a point to continue using such a big tool - to just take photos 7-8 times a year (if that many). So i caught myself not wanting to use it, just because it's too darn big to handle around. BUT i still want the quality, my S5 phone is obviously not up to task. Is there a camera out there that gives that quality - but isn't that bulky? Mirrorless of course - but there are so many now A budget of $450 perhaps? (Not averse to getting used stuff, cameras don't tend to break that much as far as I know...)

Hi all, I have been debating what my next lens will be for my Canon EOS M10. I currently own the Canon EF-M 15-45 f/3.5-6.3 and the EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 lenses. My choice comes down to the Canon EF-M 22mm f/2 (205 euros) or Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 (319 euros). I really like the compactness of the 22mm but I am afraid I will regret lossing the zoom. That's the thing I like about the 11-22mm besides the fact that it is relatively wide. However it is not so good in low light situations and I do some astrophotography. (For astrophotography I will buy the SAMYANG 8MM F/2.8 FISHEYE FUJIFILM at some point) I maily use my camera for landscape. My question is: what would you recommend and can you give your own experiences with a fixed lens? Cheers.

So B&H are having some really good sales right now on Dracast LED lights, I'm wondering if it is worth getting a 1000 LED light (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1219694-REG/dracast_drsp_1000b_led1000_series_bi_color_led.html) and a 500 LED light (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1258215-REG/dracast_drsp_500bn_led500_silver_bi_color_panel.htm) over another Rokinon cinema lens. I currently have a T3i with a 16mm T2.2 cine lens. I am saving up for a Sony Mirrorless camera, but saw these deals and realised that I have no proper lighting. Right now I have Ikea LED arm lights and 2 Neewer 160 LED lights, not great. Even if I buy these I will still have money for a Sony Mirrorless Camera (I'm looking at A6500 or its successor when it comes out). As for what I shoot, the occasional short film, mostly product B-roll. I really can't find any good info on if lights are worth it. All help is appreciated.

Hello my fellow photographers and videographers. I am looking for a photography tripod for my mirrorless photo camera, mainly for long-exposure evening photography. I currently own a Fuji X-T10 with an XF 18-55mm zoom lens, I plan on getting a few prime lenses in the future so the tripod doesn't have to be able to carry a full-frame DSLR with a telephoto lens however I still want it to be stable enough to give me sharp images despite a 5-20second shutter-speed. I'd prefer a ball-head and I'd prefer it to be relatively light as I'd probably carry it around quite a lot in the centre of Dublin city. As I live in Ireland, I'd prefer to either buy locally or order from the UK. I know Camera Centre over here has a decent collection of Manfrotto tripods, I know it's a big brand among tripods but is it any good should I look elsewhere to see if I can get more for my money? Also, would this be alright? https://www.camera.ie/products/manfrotto-mkbfr1a4b-bh-befree-one-kit Or should opt for something like this? https://www.camera.ie/products/manfrotto-mk190xpro3-bh-ball-head-kit Also, I won't be using this for video at all, so I don't care about video functionality. I really have no experience with tripods at all, I have never owned one myself. I know a few of you guys have a lot of experience as pro and long-term photo/video enthusiasts but if anyone, new or highly experienced have any valuable input then I'd really appreciate it if you'd let me know in this thread or a private message. Thank you all in advance.

Hello Guys, Great news is that I've been accepted into a growing company's first product reviewer program! Scarier news is - I have no camera! I gave it to my mother due to a liquid spill she did on hers. #LoveTheFamily Anyways, I've setup a budget ... but I know i'll blow through that if it's worth it. Just hit me with your best value cameras, no more than $500. All I need is 1080p 30Fps. It needs to be able to shoot photo/video in one well-lit room, an average living room, and outdoors (backyard, park, etc.) I am not opposed to used either, but I realize this makes listing them very difficult. Maybe amazon used only? Currently, I am looking at these cameras. Canon EOS Rebel T3i ($275 Used) | Lumix GF3 ($120 Used) I'm kind of leaning more towards the Lumix because of its newer tech & first-glance better value. I just need better eyes on this, so thanks!

Hi all, It's been almost a year since I passed on my Nikon D3200 to my sister. I didn't have much time to shoot back then, and thought she would be able to use it more than I could. But now I've saved up some money and am in the market for a new camera. This time however I've been really falling for all of the mirrorless systems that I did not consider last time. Right now I've got my eyes on the Fuji X-T10 and their XF 18-55mm F2.8 - 4.0 lens. This kit currently comes in at $1,000 on amazon. What I like about this camera is the style, build quality (from what I've heard), the options in lenses, and the portability that comes from mirrorless systems. I'm posting here today to get a second opinion before I buy anything. I've been kind of tunnel-visioned on this X-T10 and want to see if some of you can point out some glaring flaw with this camera that I'm just not seeing, or perhaps a better camera to go with. I understand the X-T10 does not have the best video mode, but I don't typically shoot video - and when I do it isn't very serious. My budget right now is about $1,200 US. Feel free to chime in with a DSLR recommendation, but I am mostly looking at mirrorless because I travel a lot and appreciate how easy they would be to bring with me.

Hello, So I have though of buying a second lens to my camera (Sony A5000). I would like to get a wide angle one because I enjoy landscape photographing, but I'm having trouble knowing what one to get. One of the main problems is I don't have that big budget so is it even worht getting a "cheaper" wide angle or should I just save up for a more expensive one. One other problem is I have the A5000 which have a smaller APS-C sensor which means I need a quite wide lens to get the "Wide angle" of a 35mm full-frame. My lens now goes to 16mm which is decent but I loove the distortion and the super wide of the really wide lenses. I know these are hard to use but I would like to learn it and get beautiful effect. So really what options are it? I've read about Wide angle adaptors, are they any good? Maybe to get a first feel of it? And I have one adapter for Nikon F mount lenses so I can use Nikon lenses (But those are so expensive..,have a old 50mm f1.8 and a 100mm f2.8 which I rarley use)

BTW, I'm not from the US, is homie a good word? or bad? in some movies when someone call somebody a "homie", they get offensive but according to dictionary, it's "an acquaintance from one's town or neighbourhood, or a member of one's peer group or gang." Anyway, so I just recently started to learn photoshop for a hobby, and since it has something to do with photos, I figured I might as well learn photography, right? Now, since I'm just starting to learn, you should already know I'm not a pro when it comes to these photography stuffs. In fact, I haven't took any "real" photos before in camera, just in phones, sooooo ye~~~ah... Here's what I'm kinda looking for: -Long battery life -Can take RAW image (also can take great photos oviously) -(Optional) Can take a descent HD video -Can take good low light image So far, I have 2 cameras in mind... -Canon EOS M3 -Nikon 1 J5 I also kinda like the Nikon D3300 but it's kinda bulky and big. But if many of you prefer that over the other 2, I might go with D3300 instead (coz it's also in the same price range). BTW price range sweet spot is up-to $700 or ¥70,000 (I lived in Japan) "Homies help homies" - Jake

Looking for a Camera for my mom. 650$ Budget~
Hashiyan posted a topic in Photography and Videography
Alright guys, my mother approached me today asking me to help her find a camera around 650$ in total. I know some things about Camera's, enough to get around a bit but i'm no magic mike about what is current and what is the best thing from today's standpoint. I'm hope that one of you guys could give me a hand? To start off my mom was looking at Mirrorless Camera's. She really enjoys the fact that they can swap lenses, there small and light and they take quiet decent photos. My question to everyone else is are they reliable? Future proof? Worth the money over a DSLR Camera? I don't know to much about this, but my mother is really digging it. If we can find an option that's under mirrorless that would be pretty cool, and my mom would be happy. If we need something else, thats not mirrorless than that is fine too. ANYTHING GOES! Requirements! 1) Under 650$ Total! 2) 2 Lens options! 3) Must be light and a little bit smaller! My mom does not want to lug around a big bag! 3) Lens must be cheap to afford! My mom does not have a lot of money to pump into extremely expensive lenses! 4) 100+mm zoom! 5) Great lowlight performance and good shutter speed! 6) A little bit future proof Optional) Mom likes the color white, if you can find something in white, O well but if you can thats an added bonus. Good luck hunting!
