1) I know that competition is very important to force out the best results from a company, but if so, then why would a company like competition, but would be in the favor of monopoly right? But then why did Intel license out x86 architecture to AMD? They would obviously want the monopoly over the market so they have all the control. 2) But then Microsoft does have monopoly in the OS segment right? There is Linux, but by my understanding, it's main problem is the support. Most programs are designed to run on Windows natively, but on Linux, you need hacks like Wine or Proton or stuff like that to run them. Drivers are also a problem. Only mainstream hardware have drivers for Linux, but if you have some niche product, or just an OEM PC, then good luck finding proper drivers for it. And Mac OS is for Macs only. So you can't do anything about the monopoly? 3) Why do Tech companies rely on Tech YouTubers for hardware reviews? If they themselves hosted the review, then they would obviously use marketing strategies and make them look good. I know, they do some kind of reviews, and shows, but they get way less views as nobody wants to see their lies, and would rely on the reviews of independent tech enthusiasts, but they are only making review videos because Tech companies are sponsoring/sending them their own product. Man, my life felt like a lie when I first found out (when I was small) that they just get thousands of dollars worth of tech just for free, for something we dedicate years to obtain. 4) Why do Tech companies obey each other's launch timings? Nvidia & AMD and Intel and AMD, always launch their new generations very close or on the same date. What would happen if Nvidia launches next gen a year before AMD, or delay it for more development? + side question - how 40 series has 3rd gen RT, but 4th gen tensor? weren't they created both in turing?

Its not terribly egregious but this graph is not at all accurate to the numbers shown. Any other board partners pulling this kinda stunt? Taken from their webpage

Radeon marketing is terrible- https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/c7qw8t/why_i_hate_amd_marketing_big_essay/ Previously I wrote a big reddit post about this. Radeon marketing is better nowadays, compared to the days where AMD sent Fixers to break nvidia graphics cards and generated e waste. ReBAR/SAM was marketed well. But Nvidia now does have reBAR. Nvidia only supports reBAR in latest 3000 series. Radeon needs focus on sustainability .Now older CPUs support reBAR, so if Nvidia doesn't support reBAR in older hardware, then that should be marketing focus for AMD.Do a propaganda about SAM being enabled in older hardware and gaining advantage in open world games like Assassins creed According to Hardware unboxed- Geforce has significant driver overhead now. Older CPUs like ddr3 haswell don't perform well with Nvidia cards for a while. This is partially because ray tracing has a cpu overhead, faster ram and faster cpu with big cache is needed for ray tracing. Radeon cards are bad at ray tracing, however they can use this as a good thing. Driver overhead is less than nvidia, so use this as 'better longevity' finewine propaganda. After all most steam users have skylake kabylake haswell i5 or ryzen 1600. These cpu are terrible nowadays with geforce drivers Work with game developers and simulation devs- unreal engine hates ray tracing and uses other solutions. AMD should work with game engine dev like Epic, Microsoft, Unity to make rasterized reflection and global illumination look better. Competing with Nvidia and whole omniverse will not be easy but you can try. But promote FSR even more. Try to insert FSR into vulkan api. Create alternative to nvidia's liquid physics 'flow' Try to make better reflection maps using FSR. Some game engines still don't support reBAR or SAM for big maps, work on that. Dual gpus were not a thing, but AMD did try to establish dx12 multi gpu when they sponsored Ashes singularity. AMD needed to sponsor a FPS game at that time. Right now multi gpu are probably not gonna make a comeback, but there are more crossfireX supported motherboards then sli certified. So maybe work on crossfire a little, specially for simulation softwares Some simulation softwares may need more cache than others. Unreal engine has chaos destruction which uses more cpu. AMD has 5800x3d cache. So work with ray tracing and physics software makers to make use of the cache. AMD also had senseMI it helped a bit for simulation but it was not later developed. power consumption- Latest Intel architecture needs lots of power. Geforce 4000 may need lots of power. Gone are the days when Radeon was the power hungry inefficient chip. However gamers still look at Radeon as primitive power hungry chips that caused so much climate change and cyclones the chip turned red like the color of the blood. AMD needs some focus groups to investigate how gamers see them. Try to market it as green environment friendly because Ryzen has longevity and both Ryzen and Radeon now less power hungry than Intel and Nvidia. NVidia ray tracing cards has sudden power fluctuations which is specially bad for SFX setups. Sustainability and ESG score- AMD should focus on the word sustainability and e waste and longevity more. When you are spending more money you are actually saving money- actually for AMD, in some cases it's true. Spending more money on AMD may save money in long run because Ryzen supports same socket lot longer than intel. Radeon is bad at ray tracing, use this as a sustainable argument. Why make more ewaste, rather promote rasterization improvements like FSR. Promote BAR/SAM in older hardware, free performance gain in older hardware Ryzen 5000 chipset support and pciE4.0- AMD kinda screwed up 5000 series launch. 5000 was still AM4. Why contradict motherboard vendors and say 5000 series won't support x470 b450 for quite some time. The pciE4.0 support issue made it even worse. pciE was more complicated because it's more sophisticated, but there was no actual issue of supporting 5000 on older chipset while pciE4.0 is disabled. AMD Link- Some Radeon features are bit niche but needs to be marketed more. AMD Robert made some great youtube videos. Now somebody in radeon needs to make youtube or tiktok explanation about AMD Link and other radeon features Twitch- nobody on Twitch or godforsaken mixer playstv use Radeon. Sponsor some twitcher tiktokers to promote Radeon Link or something. Or promote some MMO, those mmo players have no life they want to be in the game while they are on the streets getting hit by a car Store monopoly and anti trust- Epic games is fighting platform monopoly. This is not directly connected to AMD, and AMD is actually a behemoth having both CPU and GPU divisions. But AMD can kinda promote openness trust. AMD is the one who promoted mantle, predecessor of Vulkan in battlefield 4 9 years ago. So AMD should market to Vulkan and Linux more GPU vendors are kinda worried about Nvidia taking market from them with founder edition. AMD can promote itself as more sustainable because AMD cooperates with vendors better. Nv also had some problems with hardware reviewers like HW unboxed and gamers nexus last year. So AMD needs to market it better with 'we are not a monopoly' slogan Wonder why laptop makers are reluctant to use AMD? Did AMD ever wonder why laptop makers slow to work with them? Nvidia has GPP which was exposed by hardocp. GPP was supposedly shut down after backlash and antitrust accusation but is it really? Laptop makers are reluctant to use radeon gpu because there is still nvidia GPP, they have to have options for using geforce gpu in the laptop. privacy and open source- AMD is focusing on privacy but needs to market it even better. Apple and Steve Jobs and Tim Cook talks about privacy as human rights 24/7. AMD needs to talk about Nvidia data brokers more. Attack nvidia, I mean not physically, don't send Radeon Fixer, target Geforce experience telemetry. Claim that AMD does not track customers friendlist data or telemetry. Or do they? Raised eyebrow emoji Linux is better for privacy and security and AMD already has open source driver for linux. Focus on that. 6500XT- well the sustainability argument doesn't work here because this card is gonna generate more e-waste than any other card. It's a 2022 card but it is worse than rx470 in some cases, a 6 years old card with 150$ price tag. This card is worse value than 650Ti and gtx 275x LOL AMD laptop AMD laptops are still not that popular. They should have been lot more popular in the entry level. AMD entry level laptops can game better than intel. AMD needs to market those as 600$ fortnite overwatch back to school pc. AMD can market their products as more sustainable because they have more cores and slightly better gpu at cheap price to run overwatch or even doom at low graphics. right to repair- AMD should openly support louis rossman and right to repair to make good marketing. Maybe try to make an AMD branded open laptop or open mini pc, with or without framework company. AMD custom mini pc- AMD may want to make a minipc or laptop where the gpu is horizontal to the motherboard. If you don't understand what I am saying- kinda like Gigabyte project stealth. They made the power port and internal usb ports reversed. AMD needs to reverse the pciE port on the other side, or maybe place the pciE horizontally to the motherboard, so gpu can be installed without a pciE 5.0 raiser cable. So the gaming pc can still be very slim. AMD laptops should be upgradable. AMD has lots of pciE lanes, compared to intel. So why not sell DDR5 lappy with 1 nvme and 1 stick ram. Then, when the customer decides that he has more money, he can add other sticks of ram, add 2 more nvme m2. 'When you are spending more money you are actually saving money' 'sustainability' it just works Hacks, AMD PSP, spectre The next great hacks like 'sony the interview hacks', 'wannacry ransomeware', 'spectre' or 'pegasus zero day glitches' are coming, and these hacks are not gonna be some amateur scriptkids phishing the medical workers, to force them to download malwares into hospital pc running freaking windows XP. Upcoming serious hacks/wars are gonna happen through Intel management interface or AMD PSP. Information warfare. What is AMD doing regarding PSP? They need to be more clear about it. Can we turn it off, does turning it off risk system stability? AMD can stay top at the marketing if they do something about it, options to turn it off in ryzen or threadripper? Become more open about it, how does AMD PSP work in windows 11 tpm? Spectre exploits hindered Intel's performance, Intel now recommends turning hyperthreading off in older pc. AMD can use this as marketing, saying yet there is no big exploit found in AMD, AMD's longevity is secured unlike competition. fuzedrive sensestorage- these days nvme storage is getting cheaper so fuzedrive is obsolete. However maybe it will gain some relevance with microsoft directstorage? maybe try to combine it with upcoming DDR5 rams and reBAR. 'Intelligent StoreMI sends texture data from your storage to GPU memory faster, just combine your SSD with HDD!' Like Gamernexus put it- so far AMD only marketed its products to reddit. AMD Radeon group has to understand if they only market to reddit then their marketing never gonna grow. In AMD subreddit people are speculating about Radeon because somebody tweets a thinking emoji or 'jebaited', this is not good.

Hello everyone! I'm currently trying to figure out a solid file structure for my multi-media team. This involves 2 designers, 2 video producers / animators, 1 blog-writer, 1 marketing manager. The content that we produce vary from internal live events to external animation videos. I was thinking of separating each folder by projects with sub-folders with each individual department, but this would result in one super folder with hundreds of project folders inside of it. Any suggestions on how we can organize these folder to make it easy to navigate and easy to find specific files. How do you have your file structure laid out? Sorry if this type of question doesn't belong here, I figure that it doesn't hurt to ask the community. Thanks to everyone in advance!

I would have bought ek`s EK-CoolStream SE 240 and EK-XRES 100 SPC-60 MX PWM (incl. pump) which is a total of $139.98 BUT ek ruined that because there was $20 tax on each item (WTF?), so then i went to check amazon and newegg (and some others) but they weren't there! as a result I did not buy those 2 items. (also thanks ALOT ek for making me go on a wild goose chase looking at all the websites that might be selling those items)

I've been tasked with increasing the number of subscribers to my companies weekly mailing list. I ran through the process a customer would be taken through to subscribe and it seems unnesecarily tedious. I nearly didn't bother completing it myself, before reminding myself that it's kinda my job. Filling in the form on our hompage takes you to a new 'almost finished' tab, instructing me to find a link in a confirmation email - Probably worth it to confirm I entered the correct email address... (click link in email) A confirm humanity tab appears (click 'I am not a robot' box). Tell the system which of the following squares contain street signs. Click subscribe - 'Congratulations you're now sunscribed to our mailing list' I'm now at a dead end where I have to find my previous tab and close the other two opened by mailchimp. Now... Nothing other than the form on our homepage has been created by us, the rest of the system is done by mailchimp. I don't see where I can change this process in mailchimp. I'd like for the link in the email to lead to a welcome page or for there to be no confirmation email at all. I'm aiming for seemlessness. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Hi. Long time LTT viewer first time forum poster. IDK if this is where I should put this. sorry if this is in the wrong section. In relation to last weeks wan show (sept 25 2020) and Linus' rant about the Xbox naming scheme (1h20m50s), I made some hand drawn "graphs" in an attempt to quantify what makes a product name good.

Hello, I don't know if Linus will see this, I will be thankful if a mod or so hints him to this, because I don't know what the correct way is. Watched the VoD of WAN Show on Youtube (different timezone, WAN Show is too late for me), wanted to share some experience about Magix and why Intel probably picked it for the marketing slides. Magix is a producer of software for audio and video editing. Several years ago I bought Magix Video Deluxe, to have something to edit family videos with, without losing sanity while using Windows Movie Maker. On itself it was fine, used all threads from consumer grade CPUs, easy to use UI and most of the world was sitting for some years on 4C/8T, so that no one cared. Several years later AMD shocked the industry with Zen and consumer grade 8C/16T CPUs. I bought an 1800X and used if for different things, one of it was to edit a video. Finished the edit, clicked on "Export" and waited to see how small the needed time will be. After a minute I was worried, that I did an error somewhere, because the remaining time was only couple % lower compared to my old CPU. Task-Manager showed only 50% utilization, maybe my target HDD went bad and slowed it down. Checked the HDD, it was fine according to SMART and transfer speeds in file explorer were fine. After not knowing what to do, I remembered that I could something use, that should work perfectly fine: ffmpeg. Took the original video, let ffmpeg convert it and saw 100% utilization together with the earlier expected remaining time for the export. Something had to be wrong with Magix Video Deluxe. Looked through the options and found the parameter, with which a user can limit the number of used CPU cores for an export. Played with it around to get the confirmation, that the software it self has a hard cap off 8C/8T. The version I had was a bit old, so installed the test version of the current release, but it had the same behaviour. After that, I searched their forum and found some threads asking my question. Together with the information from support, both had been kindly phrased, the intentional answer was:"Go and buy Intel Scrooge McDuck, they are superior with their QuickSync, we [Magix] don't care about core count!" Maybe because of that Magix had been listed in the marketing slides from Intel Don't know if Magixs' more expensive suits work better, but they lost me as a customer. I tried out their Magixs' Vegas, which they bought from Sony and worked as hoped. It used all 16 threads too, like ffmpeg. But with such an attitude, they will not so money from me ever again. Sincerely, GTrash81

Budget (including currency): 300,000 PKR Country: PAKISTAN Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Video editing for 1 to 15min videos Other details I already have a gtx960 I could use. Want to make 2 editing rigs so that I can edit for clients such as companies looking to advertise or youtubers without editing knowledge. I'm gonna be learning editing side by side as well. I've built a couple gaming PCs for myself but I have no idea what I would need for video editing. I will mostly be editing 1080p but I want to future proof for 4k. No idea if I should upgrade for that in the future because my goal is to become a production house. I have no other parts at the moment only the gtx 960 from an old gaming pc. Any advice would be helpful in terms of monitors or hardware or software. Thankyou

Okay, so this is mostly just me putting my thoughts down about the RX 480 launch, and how AMD actually did a decent job of marketing the product this time compared to the competition they were facing. I'm not wearing a red or green hat, so if you are an Nvidia or AMD fanboy, prepare to possibly be offended. People can agree or disagree. I'm not too worried, these are just my thoughts and not some indepth analysis. So even though I didn't care for it at all, the GTX 970 is the most popular discrete graphic card on steam right now (and has been forever it seems). That's amazing considering custom 970's were breaking past the $340 mark at launch, so they weren't cheap, although reference MSRP was $299. Before the 970 was the big seller, the 660 was the most popular card. The 660 was a $229 MSRP card at launch that matched a $350 HD7870. It's a no brainer that the $229 card beat the $350 card in sales. After all, both cards performed the same, despite the 2GB 660 having 1.5GB of fast memory and 0.5GB of slow memory. So how in the world did Nvidia manage to get so many people to buy 970's at the higher price point? It was pretty simple. They beat their 1000 dollar Kepler card from the previous generation for 1/3 the price. Suddenly 300-350 dollars seemed like a steal, and at less power draw too. Oddly enough, even after the 3.5GB fiasco, people still kept buying the 970. What are the odds two cards with 0.5GB of gimped memory are best sellers? Changing my focus to AMD - they marketed the RX 480 as being built like a 500 dollar card, with premium components, and having the performance in VR of a 500 dollar card. What this translated to in peoples minds was: "you are getting a 500 dollar card for 200 dollars." It was brilliant. Even on the LTT forums you had at least one thread with the title that said something like "RX 480 performs like a 500 dollar graphic card." For the first time in ages, AMD actually nailed the marketing and had people really hyped. Slides reading "2.8x Performance/Watt" had people believing. Even though 200 dollars is a lot of money for many people, AMD said "No, its cheap!" We're practically giving these away." But what were AMD up against? Nvidia were playing the same game again with the 1070, offering a card that beats the previous Generations $1000 card for less than half the price. No one can deny it was and still is a tempting offer. It's why I went for it. So AMD took a shot at the 1080 instead, drumming up the capabilities of DX12 multi-adapter, the amazing efficiency of Polaris, and AMD's renewed focus on software and crossfire support. At Computex 2016, AMD pitted two 480's against a single 1080 in a DX12 title, and beat the 1080. Of course, Ashes is an AMD title that is heavily tuned for GCN architecture, but the message still got out. Not only are you getting a "500 dollar card" for 200 dollars, but for 400 dollars you are getting the performance of a 700 dollar card. But looking at the RX 480 without the marketing filters, you can see why AMD had to come out swinging so strongly. The 480's power draw is close to a GTX 1080 and GTX 970. The benchmarks for the 480 are everywhere, and the custom 480's are arriving. What we do know is that the 480 is actually in the ballpark of the 390's performance. At 1080p the 480 is a few % ahead, while at 1440p the 390 edges out the 480. So who cares about the 390? The RX 480 is a 500 dollar card for 200-240 dollars right? Well... not exactly. the 390 at launch had an MSRP of $329, But custom 390's can currently be bought (brand new) for as low as $260 on newegg.com. So what does the 480 offer? well, better power draw than the 390 (but not 2.8x perf/watt). HDMI 2.0 as well. VR performance doesn't improve though. Regardless, there are large groups of people waiting for the custom 480's to launch, eager to get their hands on this 500 dollar card for 240 dollars (or probably more like 250-275 for custom 480's). Why? because AMD have actually done their marketing right this time, and they actually have some proof that DX12 and vulkan are not vaporware. Nvidia on the other hand seem to be sabotaging their own 1060 marketing: no SLI fingers, Founders Edition pricing, not squashing rumors about supply, declaring 980 performance when the math says 480 performance. I'm not saying Nvidia are giving this one to AMD, because you can bet the 1060 will still sell like hotcakes. SLI at that performance tier is not a common practice. But AMD really nailed it this time, despite the 480 not being a 500 dollar performer by any stretch of the imagination, not even close. AMD have cleverly disguised the 480 as being something much better than it actually is, and pulled in a lot of buyers - even many people who were currently using older nvidia cards. The mindshare is strong for the 480, no doubt about it... at least for now.

Nvidia has been hard at work advertising gameworks and not allowing AMD to optimise their games on their hardware. A good example being Project Cars which is integrated with PhysX [and somewhat witcher 3]. What do you guys think about their aggressive marketing? I personally think we need to stop nvidia's monopolization. Also note, I am a nvidia user, loving shadowplay.

I've been trying to make effective posts on Ebay and I have yet to have any success, to add to that, the person I'm working under for an internship asked me to list a whole bunch of stuff on Ebay. I'm a fairly tech savvy person and we're selling tech related items, so I do just fine at listing specs and all those great things, but, again, I've yet to have a single item of mine sell. I want to hear from you guys what you think makes an effective Ebay advertisement/listing and any advice about using the site, getting more views on your auctions, or anything else Ebay related would be much appreciated. ave, Alcandor

Hello I am currently selling this Gaming PC (http://www.ebay.com/itm/281562670591?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649) I have been selling this Computer for a while and have not gotten much interest. I don't think I made any mistakes with the Hardware choice or the Pricing, Here's the full specs: -AMD FX 6300 CPU @3.5Ghz (6 Cores) -Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 Motherboard -8GB of DDR3 @1600Mhz -1TB Hardrive -AMD r9 270x -600W PSU -Fractal Design Core 1000 Case For $750 I thought I was offering a good value. This leads me to the question: "What am I doing wrong?" As you can see there are no watchers and the thing obviously hasn't sold it just has views. Thanks for your help in advance.

The HP ENVY series of computers is known for integrating Beats Audio in the hardware and software. Actually, I think it's just a software thing. I have an HP ENVY m6-1184ca (A Canadian model, denoted by the "ca" suffix) which obviously features the Beats Audio, as there are three Beats logos on it. Yeah, I know. It's made blatantly clear and probably a pretty notable selling point for these laptops and desktops that do feature the Beats Audio. But I think Beats Audio is just a marketing gimmick because it does not make the laptop's speakers any better than other decent quality laptops, yet laptops that have Beats Audio cost notably more than those that don't, even if the specifications are the same. Yes, the speakers do sound decent, but they're nothing amazing. As a matter of fact, my mother's Toshiba Satellite, which is about the same age as my HP ENVY has better sounding speakers and they're pretty much the standard high quality audio solutions found in any high end laptop. So, as you can tell, I'm not a huge fan of Beats Audio. I'm not much of a fan of Beats by Dr. Dre to begin with. I don't hate them, I'm just not a big fan. I hear lots of negative things about them. What do you think about Beats Audio and Beats by Dr. Dre? Do you have a computer or phone with Beats Audio? What is your experience with them?

Hi first of all i want to say that i work as a salesman so i am very quick at recognizing marketing tricks like "natural, award winning..., mothers choice, 20% extra, extra durable, enhancement, premium etc..." So when i see electronic products with tags "OC, Super, Gaming, Pro Edition" this makes my laugh so hard. Few week ago i bought Ryzen 5 2600 with Asus PRIME a320m-k motherboard. And guess what it works just fine. Internet is full of bull!@#$ (especialy YT channels that are actualy fronts for online stores), they do not recommend a320 motherboard becouse there is no cooling (radiators) on VRM or there is bad configuration of phases i am not an expert. Something about not getting maximum boost of cpu frequencies. And they recommend b450 motherboard... "Gaming version" to be exact. I watched ton of videos and read a lot of articles that tend to suggest that a320 is a office station motherboard or 1200- 1500 ryzen at best, maybe 2200G after bios update, but asus website clearly states that this model support newest Ryzen gen 3 "Zen 2" models without problem( https://www.asus.com/pl/Motherboards/PRIME-A320M-K/HelpDesk_CPU/ ). Then when i was choosing GPU i stumble across Nvidia gtx 1660 compareson. Cheapest Palit Storm OC has one fan, 3 heat pipes configuration and was as good when it comes to performance, temperature when compared to 50$ more expansive asus 3x fan model "super mego oc version or some other nonsense" To add more salt to the wound there is a ton of reddit post about people advising people to not buy cheap MOBO becouse you can't OC it... Hmm If a peron is trying to find the cheapest way to make his CPU, GPU and Ram to work is it really smart for him to buy 100% more expensive MOBO that will not be enough to OC his CPU without better Cooling Fan and/or larger Case. How much bull!@#$ there is when it come to MOBOs marketing. Do we really need all this cooling for normal use without OC <== which is propably like 95% of the population, Do i really need RGB support, M2 drive or SDD drive (omg my files copy faster - now my life is complete). Is it really worth it to add these extra dollars into motherboard instead of buying faster CPU itself or next gen GPU chipset. So can you guys tell me what is the diffrence for a normal nonOC consumer between asus prime a320m-k gigabyte ab350m-ds3h v2 gigabyte b450m s2h gigabyte b450 gaming Other then GIVE ME MORE MONEY cuz you dum!
