This might be the 20th time I went to forums. My PowerBook has Linux, but I need Mac OS. Relevant Info: Model Number (A1095/PowerBook5,4), 2GB of RAM, No quick access to a proper Installation Media/Macintosh and during bootup I have to type "Linux radeon.agpmode=-1". When I was a high schooler, Apple's iOS 1-6 design, Mac OSX 1-9 design, and Microsoft's Windows 7 Aero design were the top dogs of design with skeumorphism being the leading design philosophy of the time. But skeumorphism died out in favor of flat designs for all OS' today (with the exception of PlayStation 4) and I personally think it's boring. In my opinion, Steve Jobs had it right with skeumorphism, it gave everything depth and complexity missing from today. Does anyone else here agree? For those who don't understand what I mean here's some pictures:

Basically my goal is to run Windows 10 and be able to dual boot to Mac OS X, preferably id like to be able to install the latest High Sierra but if not its whatever, anything above 10+ i think would suffice! Ive done and tried Mac OS X on VMware and its just so laggy from software to possible hardware updates required on the Mac side of things, i would like to be able to install OS X on my external HDD, to make internal eventually and be able to run it without this lag issue as it takes like 10sec to process any commands like simply loading up an app or program or just the About option. BUILD: CPU - Intel i7-6700k RAM - 32GB of Vengeance® LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3200MHz C16 MOBO - MSI 170A GAMING M5 GPU - Asus STRIX AMD R9 380 4GB Storage - Crucial 256GB SSD, Samsung 250GB SSD, WL 3TB HDD, + Toshiba 320GB External HDD (Will Be For Mac OS X, If My System Is Compatible) So, if your able to assist me on setting this up to work properly, or if im even able to if my hardware is compatible id really appreciate any and all support for this. A few minutes ago I was watching a YouTube video and waiting for my ubuntu Linux to install an my VM when it randomly shut down I felt the back of the computer and it was very hot, so maybe it shut down under workload. Any help is appreciated Thanks!

I enjoy using both OS X and Windows for different things. Currently, I have Mavericks installed on my Mac and Windows 8.1 on my PC. The reason I haven't upgraded either of those is that I just cannot stand how flat the newer operating systems look. For OS X - The looks of Yosemite and beyond just totally destroyed everything I enjoyed about OS X visually. I love the subtle gradients on the buttons and icons on Mavericks, and even the taskbar just has this nice roundness to it that's really pleasant to look at. It looks really professional, elegant, and almost kind of polished, at least in my opinion. The newer OS's have this cartoony vibe that I just cannot stand behind. I think the dark mode thing is alright, but everything from the icons to the system text, to the plasticky transparent glassish vibe just makes it feel like an ugly phone OS on a computer. For Windows - My dislike for Windows 10 is mostly a color and shape thing. It just seems like a mix of dark colors with some highlights, and then just squared-off edges on seriously everything. Plus it just feels so washed out with just white and grey on some areas, especially on the taskbar and the minimize buttons and all that. The lack of vibrancy in the colors just makes it feel super dull and uninspiring to me, and I know a bunch of people would probably disagree with me on this, but I much prefer the brighter colors and vibrance that was shown on Windows 8. It made the OS more of a delight to use, and was more inviting and bright to look at. Windows 7 and 8 also both had some lovely, subtle gradients that were really nice, another thing missing from 10. It's kind of not important, but especially with the newer versions of OS X, I don't enjoy feeling like I'm falling behind in the past with an older OS, especially with certain programs and stuff that will only run on newer OS's. But at the same time, I would hate to upgrade to say Sierra, but then hate how it looks to the point where I just don't enjoy using it. Kind of a petty rant, but does anyone here share this sentiment with either OS's? I remember when Yosemite came out I wasn't totally alone on the whole "Yosemite is ugly thing," but I didn't know if most people have gotten over that or not.

So a while back I installed Mac OS X on a laptop (Which at the time was my main driver). I then transferred it to a desktop, and it had no issues booting. I recently had to wipe my drive because I had nothing important on there, and the system was getting kinda full as well. I remade a clover USB and attempted to reinstall Mac OS X Mojave on to it. The system found nothing. None of my SATA disks were even acknowledged by the OS as existing. I don't know if this will help any but here are my current specs: My system is an H61 based chipset running on a 3rd gen i7, has 16 GB ram, runs off of a 1 tb SATA (since I'm broke af) and has a GeForce GTX 750 Ti (again, I'm broke af). The motherboard has the latest bios and I have set it back to optimal settings yet nothing has worked. Sorry if I sound stupid by writing this I just need someway to fix this problem if at all possible.

Hi, I need a lot of different Mac OS (X) versions on hand for different software only running on those versions. For now I am just using an external SSD with my VMs for Mac OS X 10.4/5/6/7/8/9/10/11/12/13/14/15 which run virtualized in Proxmox. While the performance is pretty good this way, it is annoying to always shut down the VMs, unplug the SSD and move it over to another Computer when I want to access the VMs from a different Workstation. Since I'm also reworking my Server at this moment to run Proxmox for my Linux VMs I though of moving my Mac instances over to Proxmox. I'm probably pretty spoiled by the performance and ease of use with Parallels so I'm looking for a decent Remote Access Tool for those VMs. Proxmox's NoVNC just plain sucks (also no shared Clipboard). So far I tried using the built-in Screensharing in Mac OS and connect from another mac with the built-in VNC Viewer which does work, share clipboards and I can even drag and drop files, but it shows both cursors (the "virtual" one and the real one) and the virtual one is lagging behind a lot, so the experience is suboptimal. Also, colors look pretty poor. Using RealVNC's VNC Connect with Mac OS's VNC Server is a better experience, image quality is better and I only have one mouse. Moving windows or images (creating a fast changing image) is lagging behind and is showing the progressive scan. Then I tried Parallels Web Access which (so far) has the best framerate, but has a high latency and is noticably compressed (which makes sense since it streams over their servers). What other options are there that allow clipboard sharing and have a good performance? Preferrably no Cloud-based solutions. Bandwith usage within the home network doesn't matter and shouldn't be a factory when deciding on a solution. I do not have issues with paid software if it delivers good results. So far my RealVNC version delivers the best performance and experience. Oh and then there is one more option... Parallels RAS (Remote Application Server). I havent looked into that a lot as it is not very cheap and has an annual subscription. Has anyone tried that and how does it work? Or do you have other ideas on how to accomplish this task? Maybe other hypervisors that support remote desktop natively? Dear LTT, I was wondering how Davinci Resolve 14 or 15 performs in Linux Ubuntu? Anyone has experience whit it? Or performs Davinci Resolve his best at Windows or Mac OS X machine? Is there a difference whit which OS you use? Has someone experienced/knowledge about this?

Dear Communauts, I am a physicist and a OpenCL, CUDA and C++ programmer for a large scientific (high energy physics) collaboration. I quite often fly through (mostly) Europe and I need a good platform to bring with me in a backsack that allows me to: Run OpenCL code Run CUDA code Run Mac OS X (personal and opportunistic choice) Improve graphics performances for CAD and casual evening gaming sessions I am actually working with an awesome MacBook Pro Retina 15" mid 2014, equipped with an Iris Pro and a GTX 750m, and I am really happy with that machine. This machine is provided by my institution and, by the end of my PhD (Oct '18) I'll have to return it. At that point I would like to get a modern machine, but I cannot find neither a hackintosh-capable laptop that fully satisfies me nor an Apple laptop with CUDA support. At a given point an idea jumped in my head as a crazy monkey: may I be able to create a little thunderbolt box with a small GPU that can handle all my tasks with any TB2 or TB3 equipped computer? To cite Linus, let's find out! The enclosure I started digging and I found the first piece of the jigsaw: a Sonnet Echo SEL. This awesome TBx to PCIe 8x (mechanical, 4x electric) enclosure can be equipped with a low profile and single slot PCIe card. "TBx" means that the enclosure comes in both TB2 and TB3 versions, with the possibility to switch between the two buying the upgrade (downgrade) board from Sonnet itself. After some email with Sonnet presales I got a precise statement on the max power of the enclosed card: Then I got the max specs for my GPU choice: 55W with the enclosed AC Power Supply. The 120W option was not really considered: packing so much power in a so small enclosure is, to me, not ideal. In addition there are some size limitations, as seen from the following cartoon. Low profile, single slot and less than 55W (the less, the best) and strong restrictions on total length: challenge accepted! The GPU Diggin' down some more I eventually came out with three options: EVGA GTX 1030 (passive or active) -> not really single slot and not so powerful with respect to a 750m (efficiency is another stuff...) or a Radeon Pro 555 or 560 (the GPUs the new MacBook is equipped with). ASL GTX 1050Ti battle flag -> A nice piece of hardware, a little bit difficult to get, but overall too long for the Sonnet enclosure (190mm vs 167.9mm) and too power hungry (75W). PNY Nvidia Quadro P1000 -> Good video card, 1050ti like, expensive but rated at 47W max. Nice touch: the 4 miniDP will be compatible with my current MacBook display adapters, so no need for other dongles to carry around. As you may already argue from the list I opted for the pricy P1000 (~340EUR on Amazon), with the DVI model, coming with 4 miniDP to DVI adapters instead of the 4 miniDP to DP adapters one can find in the standard version. All the pieces are currently shipped, alongside with a pack of 3 miniDP dummy display dongles which will be useful to accelerate internal MacBook display even without an external display directly attached to the GPU (link). Summary If everything goes as planned this project will bring me (and possibly you) a neat solution to: Get additional display connectivity (and processing power to handle them) with any TB2 (are there any?) or TB3 computer; Get a solution to run CUDA in mobility with any TB2 (same question) or TB3 computer; Get hardware acceleration for CAD and photo editing software Get hardware acceleration for mid-settings casual gaming Isn't it neat? Stay tuned for further upgrade and a step-by-step guide through al the modifications and all of the tuning that will be necessary to realise this project! Slid

Hey guys, I got a friend who is desperately willing to play in alpha, and is ready to buy an external GPU for this. He is on a mabook pro with an i7 CPU, i believe he said from late 2013...id ask him again, but i think his macbook would support the upgrade to Windows 10. Now, I have not worked on a Mac OS X myself (I however know how to use Linux Ubuntu and Mint), I know however that most people use bootcamp software. It would be all good if he chooses to have both operating systems, however what if he decides to have only Windows 10 without Mac OS? Will it be possible to delete the Mac OS partition and let him have the full space of his SSD on Windows? Then about this external gpu, id just want to ask, if he would be able to use that on his macbook display through thunderbolt, or does he have to hook up a monitor/tv to that GPU in order to use it. I know an i7 cpu would suit well Star Citizen, but I don't think iGPU would be a great idea to play this game with. Do you know which external GPU cases will go well with a macbook and are more compact? Razer one looks a little too big, but I saw Alienware had one of those too, which kinda was a better looking case.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to backup to a file location on TimeMachine on my Mac. I have file sharing enabled between both computers and I have no idea how to set up a Time Machine backup from the Mac on the Windows machine's drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Hi. I really badly need to install HP drivers on my 2010 MacBook for schooling. The printers we use at school are HP printers (at least some of them) and I need to install the drivers so they work. I was installing them earlier today but force shut down my laptop a while before it was meant to finish. Since then, it stalls on the 'Writing Files' page and does nothing. I have attempted to delete the files that were written by following a guide online but it still hangs. Please help, I really need my laptop to be able to print. Thanks, Alpha.

Hey guys! I have recently dual booted my machine with windows 7 and mac os x (el captain 10.11.2) I can get it working and all but the boot time takes forever if I do it via the HDD (I don't have any space left on my SSD which I need for my windows). I have never tried running it all the way through, I usually just restart 20 minutes into it loading and boot it by USB which takes only like 30 seconds. So basically, I just need help speeding up the boot time between clover and the actual el captain OS via the HDD. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? I don't know. Greetings LinusTech Community B) I am planning a Hackintosh Build, one of the cheap ones. I am not sure if it will work or not, therefore i am asking for guidance. I just want it to be as easy and painfree as possible. I've used the VirtualMachine version of Mac OS X for some time and i figured it would be fun to have a dedicated Mac pc. 1. If i want my hackintosh to have wireless connection, should i purchase a PCI-E Network Card(Less Expensive) or buy a motherboard with wireless internet connection(More Expensive) which would be easier to work with regarding drivers and such? 2. Is it possible to install Mac OS X directly the pc from a USB Thumbdrive without having Windows on it? That way i could save 130 Bucks. Other questions are listed in the specs, hope it's not too messy lol. Specs: CPU: Intel Core i3 4330(It was recommended on Tonymacx86 but will an i3 4160 work too?)(Planning on using stock cooler) GPU: GTX 660 3GB FTW Edition(Yes i know it's old but it was just lying around, so why not) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-HD3 Micro-ATX RAM: Crucial DDR3 4GB DIMM 240-pin Harddrive: Hitachi 1TB 7200 RPM Sata 3.0 Gb/s(I am not sure about this one, it used to be in a NAS server, and on Tonymacx86 Seagate Harddrives and Samsung SSDs were recommended) Case: Bitfenix Prodigy M White Micro-Atx(Just in Case you wanted to know :lol: ) Power Supply: Thermaltake SMART SE 530W PCI-E Network Card: TP-Link TL-WDN3800 As always thanks in advance. -Niemann

So.. Where to begin? I have ordered my first ever gaming PC (and also first desktop PC) and I need some help from you guys. I have went for the SSD + HDD (256GB + 3TB) option, as many advised. My question is, if I wanted to install windows on the SSD and Mac OS X, Ubuntu, and Kali on the HDD, what would be the optimal way to do it? Are there any major benefits to running OS X as an additional OS instead of on a virtual machine if i have 16GB RAM and 5960X? How much space should I allocate to all 3 HDD OSes? And also, might seem like a REALLY silly question, but here it is: The strongest ever computer I have ever handled is a dual core 1.7GHz laptop, so I really don't know what to do with the extra proccessing power. And before you start thinking "Who is this man and why did he buy a 5960X if he can't even use it?" It is because I have an intel employee discount and want to use it to its fullest. So my question is, how should I use the extra horsepower? What programs require and can use all of that goodness? And anyone with a similar rig can give me some framerates? (Gigabyte GTX 980 G1 Gaming) Answers would be very appreciated.

So apparently a string of 13 unique Assyrian characters (picture below) can crash your chrome browser if displayed on a webpage and viewed using Mac OS X. So I don't understand why this happens (and apparently at the moment nobody does), but when viewed it crashes the tab you are currently using. The text apparently has no affect when viewed in chrome on other operating systems (Android, Windows etc), so the trolling could be unreal. Hello all, I am having a bit of a pickle trying to pick a configuration for a MacBook Air. Come this fall I am going to need a laptop for school that is good for Photoshop, Video Editing, Flash Animation and Programming. I have decided to pick the MacBook Air (Which I know isn't a good thing to talk about here). My problem is that I don't know if the 4GB will be good enough or I should try to save up a little more for the 8GB. I know that the more memory the better, but will 4GB suffice for my needs? When I say that I will be doing all of this, it isn't anything intensively complex. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
