Hi folks , first thanks for jumping in and reading this post . Now let me give a little backstory for my problem, I have an Asus ROG strix gl502vs that I have bought probably 4.5 years ago, this laptop has been through a lot, and long story short it's physical missing a battery, not all the keys on the keyboard are working, and due to it missing a battery it hard crashes randomly (something about the video driver looping etc , but I'm pretty sure it's because of a spike load and because the power brick can provide it , vid driver crashes). I can still play on it but I can't do something serious on it as it can crash on very important moments and I lose all my progress etc. Now the other half of the story is that I don't have a desk,ie no space for a desk, so im working/gaming from my bed. So I looked at small factor cases and in theory if I can find someone that would build something / find a few products and hacking them together for low profile desk, and then maybe I can have a desktop with keyboard, mouse and monitor, but then I will have to deal with cooling it, as I live in a hot country, it's also very deserty tldr allot of issues with cleaning and cooling, so not an ideal solution. Another solution that I have looked at was , external GPU, and then I scratched that idea immediately because it will draw some extra power to power the port, and my laptop will sometimes crash when I plug in my phone to charge or battery pack or even my cooling surface (can't mmber the name , but the thing with the fans that you connect to the laptop and put it under it ). Another easy solution, pay for a battery and keyboard replacement and fixes (some contacts are missing from the PCB), it won't be cheap , but it's not a long term solution as my laptop is getting old and newer titles are harder to run (mainly because of the weak CPU). Lastly, my real question and a solution that I think might be possible, but couldn't find someone with the exact setup /I have more questions about is using my laptop as at least a monitor to a medium/full Tower PC(so down the line when I move I have a good tower, upgradability etx) that I can shove under my bed , and clean it every month. So can this be done? I think my one of my USB ports is USB 3.1 , so could it be possible with it ? Is a KVM a solution here ? If I connect a KVM where is the processing done( I guess on the same machine where the monitor is so mby it's not a solution here). What about input lag ? Any other thoughts ? Thank you

SOLVED: I succesfully turned it on with ctrl+esc and then the connecting my adapter. When I tried to turn it off with the button it didn't work, so the button is broken. I'm experiencing a problem with my Dell laptop. If i push the power button it doesn't react at all, it just stays off, I don't hear anything the power light is off and the screen is completely black. The only thing my laptop reacts to is when I charge the laptop, the light will go on then, but i still can't turn it on. I didn't damage my laptop or anything, it just suddenly can't turn on anymore. I already tried this method to try and turn on my laptop, it didn't work. Does anyone know what I have to do now to get my laptop running again.

Hello, So i was wondering if it's possible to attach a 30 pin connector of the LCD monitor to the 40 pin socket of the Dell Inspiron 15 5558. Since my monitor of the laptop broke and i don't need a touchscreen for it, an LCD would suffice. So im curious if it would work connecting it this way. Or if i would need to pay double for a replacement touchscreen instead of a normal LCD.

So I recently my dad helped me to purchase a HP Laptop, all was good till 2 days after purchasing it I received it and the hard drive made a grinding noise, functional (for now) but I knew this wasn't good, after many diagnostics and help from HP support, they finally decided it would need to be replaced, any way I still had school work that needed doing so I thought I'd hold onto the laptop for a bit longer, fast forward 6 days after receiving the laptop and the sound just stops working completely. Anyway long story short the laptop is no longer in manufacturing and I'm going to be refunded my full about of £395.98, The only problem now Is I can't find a decent laptop/2 in 1/etc that is similar to this AND doesn't cost more then £395 (I may be able to add on an extra bit of money £20-70 depending on how worth it, it is.) The Previous Laptops Specs: HP Pavilion 15-au034na (don't be surprised if you can't find it, once hp stop manufacturing something it literally disappears) Intel i3-6100U @ 2.30GHz 8Gb 1Tb HDD cost £390, got it for £370 with student discount What I need it for: Main things are Photoshop, Visual Studio and Microsoft Word, and whatever a student really needs. I like having a lot of space because I'm often unorganized and leave year old files just lying around (yey for being a digital hoarder). My dad would kill me if he caught me playing games on a laptop that was supposed to be for studying, and personally I ain't a fan of gaming on laptops, but if it ever happened that my main pc was down and I was bored or stressed having the option would be nice So That's the story and my problem, anyone know of any solutions? I can apply for a lot of student discounts as all of a sudden I seem to be the right age, time flys huh? I already have an account with myunidays.com so if anyone happens to know very good deals with them that would be cool. Oh two last notes, I'd prefer to move away from HP because although the laptop I had was really good, they're services were a bit meh, and the products felt very flimsy but that may just be me with my big hands, and please don't mention macbooks or apple products as much as I'd love to own one, because i've never owned anything other then my old Ipod touch, they are just way too expensive. (P.S I'm from UK )

I'm going off to college this fall and am looking for a laptop for portability and taking notes. My maximum budget is $1500 but am trying for something closer to $1000. I am bringing my desktop for gaming and light CAD work in my dorm so graphics are not a priority. (Skylake i5 6500, MSI 1060 6G ARMOR, with 8GB of RAM for reference) For the screen I would prefer 1080p IPS or better (60hz is fine). I would like 8GB or more of DDR4 RAM. I want it to be Windows 10 and I'm fine with Home, I don't need Pro. The main features I'm looking for are that it has an M.2 SSD and decent battery life. Basically I'd like something fast and modern that doesn't have to game (if it can I don't want it to look like a stereotypical gamer's laptop). I appreciate any help.

My brother has a Dell latitude D800 that isnt too different from my old latitude D820 that I accidentally smashed. My brother has been having a lot of browser issues and complains that it can load slowly and when it does load the browser is missing photos and the text can be spread out and unorganized. he was wondering if i could help since the main thing he uses the laptop for is just surfing the internet and checking emails. he has also told me that the mouse acts on its own accord when he is typing and can travel from one end of the screen to the other without him ever touching it. The slowness i think i can help with a stick of RAM and the broken mouse seems to be keyboard issues and not software. so im wondering how do i fix his browser issues.

I'm looking for a laptop for college, and while i am really excited to see the performance of the Blade Stealth with the Core, i don't like the total lack of on-board gaming hardware. I plan on taking many 3D-modeling and CAD classes so I need a laptop with some firepower. Ideally I'd like to get a 17" razer blade pro for its awesome hardware and portability, then couple it with the core for gaming because I believe its quad core could leverage the external graphics much better. Unfortunately the current 2015 pro is lacking a thunderbolt port and has a few other issues that stop it from fitting the ideal setup above. I haven't been able to find much information on a replacement, but I'm trying to find out. SO does anyone know if and when a new blade pro will be released, and if it will be better for me than the current model? and in either case, would it even come out in time for next school year? When was the last blade pro released? Thanks, guys~

Hi again So in a few months I'm gonna need to purchase a laptop. The laptop's gonna be used for a video editing (so rendering speeds are somewhat important), university work (so ideally not too heavy, well built, and not too big with an okay battery), and media consumption and a little gaming on the road/when my main rig is unavailable (front facing speakers would be nice, loud and not awful, a good screen is a good idea ) I've brought it down to two choices, but I'm open to suggestions: HP Pavilion 15-p289sa (15.6") ASUS Transformer Book Flip TP550 (15.6") AMD A10-5745M APU Intel® Core™ i7-4500U Processor 16GBs 1333MHz RAM 8GBs 1333MHz RAM AMD Radeon R7 M260 Integrated Graphics 1TB Storage 750 GB Storage 1366x768 Tn Panel 1366x768 Tn Panel The Pavillion is 30 euro cheaper than the ASUS, at 720 euro, and I'm tending towards it due to it's decent CPU (although not as strong as the i7), it's dedicated GPU, and it's top/front facing speakers. However, the panel on the ASUS is undoubtedly much nice, and it's 2 in 1... ness.. Could be very useful considering the roles I'd like it to fill. It has the stronger CPU aswell. It's slightly smaller, and slightly heavier. So.. Eh. There's also a little brother to the ASUS (TP300) that has an i5 4200u, 2GBs less RAM, and 250GBs less storage. It's significantly cheaper and should probably be mentioned because a homeboy never knows. How big is the difference in encoding speeds going to be? I'll be using premiere pro and I don't think Quick Sync is supported. Does anyone here have experience with either of these laptops? Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks Edit: So apparently there was some foul play going on with PC World's marketing, the ASUS has a 1366x768 TN panel. Not a breaking factor, but does make it less appealing

Hey guys! So recently I spilt water on my Razer Blade 14 (2013) and luckily have a very good 3rd party warranty through Square Trade. I should have around $2000 US (around $2200 Canadian) coming my way because the laptop was a total write off. I'm struggling with the decision between buying a new gaming laptop, most likely the new Blade when it comes out, or spending around $1500 on a very capable desktop along with a reasonably priced laptop strictly for school and other non demanding tasks. I do travel ALOT because I am a competitive snowboarder but the constantly evolving realm of game streaming via Nvidia Shield will provided me with enough confidence to travel away from a desktop. But on the other hand a thin and light gaming laptop will give me full access to the games I love everywhere I go, without being forced to stare at a phone-like display while getting rekt in games with the inferior controls of a shield. But of course sinking $1500 into a desktop will give me far superior performance over a laptop. Also as much as I would love to spend all 2.2k of my budget on a glorious face melting nerdgasm inducing desktop, duty calls, and that duty is school, so not buying a productivity laptop is out of the question... I would love to hear everyones opinions on this especially of anyone has been in a similar situation. Thanks for the help guys and girls! Seb.

Hello there readers! I have a HP: Pavilion g4 Notebook - PC I've had since February 2013, and it's now September 2014. Not a long time frame I've had it for, but with the amount of time I use it, especially now for gaming, there are some problems that have surfaced. I know that's is not recommendation for high performance or gaming, however when optimized well and constantly held in optimization, it works well enough! On the other hand, I am running into a few problems with this laptop, even though I am running ----> software : Advance System 8 (beta), My PC now ----> 3.47 GB out of 4 on RAM, enough disk space for storage (386 GB out of 440 GB), 2.70 Ghz, Processor: AMD A6-4400M APU with Radon HD Graphics, running with Windows 8.1, 64 bit system. All of my drivers are update. I wanted to get a full rundown of what I can to ----> 1.) increase my performance, yet lower or keep my pc temperatures down. 2.) prevent over-heating (without having to literally disassemble the laptop to find the problem) , and also ---> (while keeping my cpu from heating up above 70-80 degrees Celsius as well) 3.) boost specific, needed processes such as one or two programs in use instead of so many at once , like say for .....a game or video editing 4.) If I cant get it to those levels for this limited laptop, then any recommended gaming/ high performance, top of the line or affordable pc's for me? I could really use some expert or tech-savvy, well rounded know-how help.

I have been working on a laptop to turn it into a tablet; I have finished getting it touch screen, but I am still having trouble finding software for a on screen keyboard. If anyone could tell how to program one that would really help me out.
