Hi there, I have a work laptop and my personal laptop. Both are Lenovos and I work with a dual monitor setup, exchanging the thunderbolt cable when I want to use one over the other. I'm wondering if there's a KVM setup that'll work with my existing docking setup (Lenovo), something like two thunderbolt cables going into a KVM then into the dock. Does this exist? Or is there another way of accomplishing this? It'd be nice to toggle between both setups easily. Thanks

I have gotten myself a relatively cheap KVM switch for working at home, only problem is I got my Laptop (MSI GP 66 Leopard) after the switch and it only outputs in HDMI. But the KVM switch I got only takes DP inputs. I tried using HDMI to DP cables, but contrary to the names, the signal only works one way (DP -> HDMI), with multiple devices even when directly PC to monitor. So does anyone know of ANY cable / adaptor that actually works the other way around? Would really like to know if thats possible or I just wasted my money.

Hi all, I am planning a major upgrade to my personal office space and need some help figuring out the logistics. I am not sure if I need a KVM or just a usb hub with switching capabilities Main monitor - NEC Multisync EA275WMi New monitor - LG UltraGear 27GR95QE-B Main PC equipped with RTX 2070 (gigabyte) New Work Laptop - ASUS ZenBook 14X Peripherals - Corsair Strafe + Katar working with passthrough (might upgrade to a Harpoon for wireless comfort) Steelseries Arctis 1 Wireless working with usb-a -> usb-c dongle I thought I would be able to daisychain my NEC to my LG, but I can only do that over Displayport. My PC has 1 HDMI port and 3 DP ports, the laptop has 2 Thunderbolt-4 ports and 1 HDMI 2.1 port. So how do I get output from both machines to both monitors? Will I just need 2 cables from each machine to the monitors? Will a KVM help me here or do I just need a KM switch to manage my peripherals? Do I forget about using HDMI on my laptop and buy DP adapters so that I can use a DP KVM? HELP!

I bought a KVM switch that can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C5WPR68H It is supposed to have USB-A 3.0 ports and DP 1.4 to support my 1440p 144Hz monitor (laptop is only 60Hz, but I moved it down to 1440p as well to avoid any possible scaling issues when swapping with KVM). The KVM switch has USB-A ports and only DP for video. My desktop only has USB-A ports, but both DP and HDMI for video. My laptop only has USB-C ports and only HDMI for video. See the issue here? The KVM *will* connect to my desktop with both USB-A and DP cables. The KVM will *not* connect to my laptop with a DP to HDMI adapter. The KVM will *not* connect to my laptop with a USB-A to USB-C adapter. The KVM *will* connect to my laptop if I connect a USB-C hub that has USB-A ports on it, but that's less-than-ideal because it's a lot of extra bulk on my desk. I've attached a very professionally drawn diagram to try and explain visually. Now I know there's an identical HDMI version of the KVM switch that I got. It is $20 more expensive, however, so I just went with the DP one assuming my HDMI to DP adapter would work. I figure it would be better to look into a $20 "active" HDMI to DP adapter that could potentially work and just buy that, instead of returning mine and paying the extra $20 for the HDMI KVM instead. So my questions is, do my adapters need to be "active" adapters because the KVM can't convert from HDMI to DP and USB-A to USB-C? So something like this for HDMI to DP: https://www.amazon.com/Displayport-Converter-BolAAzuL-Gold-Plated-Connector/dp/B09QHGGZD3/ And I can't even find an "active" USB-A to USB-C adapter, so like do those even exist? Then why would the three or four different USB-A to USB-C adapters I had not work, but going from a USB-C dock to USB-A does work? This is all just a super massive headache to deal with.. I wish software solutions like Stardock's Multiplicity were good enough, but there is far too much lagginess to be able to have a decent work experience, especially if I am constantly in video calls and sharing my screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I have been searching high and low for some kind of solution to my problem, but am a bit out of my element, so now I turn to the community for help... I need a 2+ PC KVM that supports PC1 being display port input and PC2 being Thunderbolt input as the only source of video, audio, etc. My desktop is a no brainer, but my work laptop has only USB Type C all around it that are used for charging, peripherals, etc. and all of this is connecting to a 165hz 1440p monitor. Is there such a KVM that can support a configuration something like this, or is there another creative solution I can do to solve my issue? Below is a super technical and very life-like diagram of what is in my mind-brain that I am looking for.

Hi all I'v been browsing for a while now trying to sort a suitable KVM for my setup, but I'm having trouble. I want a simple setup that will allow me to use my desktop, but also occasionally plug in my work laptop via just 1 cable without faffing about with moving USB cables. My setup is: - Desktop PC (For gaming, all your usual connections, including USBC (Though not for graphics card)) - Work Laptop (USB C Power/DP) - Monitor: 2 x Display Port, 1 HDMI, 2 USB A, 1 USB B - Wireless mouse and keyboard (with Logitech lightspeed dongles) My trouble is: While I CAN find a solution that would technically work, I can only find solutions with HDMI 2.0 (4K at 60Hz). I would very much prefer a Display Port outlet from a KVM. I'm concerned I'll otherwise be gimped on my desktop monitor performance. I'm running 3440x1440p with HDR, up to 165hz refresh rate. Alienware AW3423 DWF Note also: While I can also find a KVM with Display Port OUT, these I haven't been able to find with the hybrid input i need (DESKTOP: DP + USB / LAPTOP: USB C) Any suggestions?

Budget (including currency): $250 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 4K 144hz Gaming (PC) + 2 MacBooks Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Trying to get 3 computers working off same keyboard/mouse + have USB peripherals to work across all 3 devices. I have 2 LG Monitors, a Caldigit T3, and two Brydge docks for the MacBooks (one for air (personal) and one for MBP (work)). Been trying to find a KVM switch that supports HDMI 2.1 to two monitors, would be okay with getting rid of the Caldigit if there was a KVM within reason for 3 devices - does not need to be power over USB-C for Macs as the docks have 2 USB C (one video/one power) Has anyone seen a good HDMI 2.1 KVM for 2 Monitors with 2 or 3 sources? IR would be welcome to tie into automation via Switchbot hub. Probably will have all the USB connect to a hub for a single input to KVM. I have only found a few potential options: https://www.easycoolav.com/products/8k60hz-4k120hz-hdmi-21-usb-30-kvm-switch-2-port-dual-monitor https://cklkvm.com/products/ckl-2-port-usb-3-0-kvm-switch-dual-monitor-hdmi-8k-60hz-keyboard-video-mouse-peripherals-switcher-for-2-computers-2-monitors-with-audio-922hua-4 https://cklkvm.com/products/ckl-2-port-usb-3-0-kvm-switch-dual-monitor-displayport-1-4-8k-for-2-computers-pc-screen-keyboard-mouse-peripheral-sharing-selector-box-supports-uhd-8k-30hz-4k-144hz-4k-240hz-32-9-with-all-cables-622dp-4 **Not opposed to DisplayPort

Hi all, apologies if this is the wrong category but I couldnt find a more suitable one. Need some advice regarding a hardware KVM switch. I need a solution that will allow me to share two 2k monitors as well as a keyboard, mouse and several devices on a USB hub between a laptop and a PC. The laptop has a single HDMI port and two USB-C ports that can be used for display output while the PC has a single HDMI port and a DVI-D port (I am currently using a DVI to HDMI cable with this port) Both monitors have a HDMI, a HDCP port and a USB-C port for display. I need something allows for cross display (i.e PC1 to Monitor 1 and PC2 to Monitor 2) as well as extended display (i.e PC1 to Monitor 1 and 2) Needs to be able to support 60Hz. 120Hz would be desirable for future proofing. So far the only ones i've been able to find either don't support cross display or are limited to 30Hz. I am not able to use any software KVMs/KVM over IP due to operating system hardening in place on the devices. I am unable to use a hardware KVM which requires software to be installed for the same reason. Any recommendations? I don't have a budget as my workplace is paying for this.

Hi LTT community! Not 100% sure this is the right sub-forum for this, but I'll try my luck anyway. I'm working for an Audio Software company in Germany and am looking to consolidate our QA setup to more easily switch between machines. I've got 2 Windows machines, 2 mac mini's and 2 iMac's running several partitions, all for testing purposes. I'm looking for an elegant solution to quickly switch between all of them, so either a monitor with an integrated KVM switch, or some sort of KVM box that can consolidate all of them. The iMac's can be expanded through thunderbolt, the macMini's have HDMI out as well as thunderbolt, the windows machines both have HDMI and Display Port. All in all, thats 6 machines, if possible I would like to use my macBook to control all of them on the display, possibly through Synergy or similar, however I'm a bit lost as to what type of KVM switch would make sense. Some of our staff also remote into these machines for testing purposes, so they need to remain active even if they are not active on the KVM switch. Budget (including currency): Estimated max would be up to 2000€ (though somewhat flexible as it's a business acquisition), less would of course be desirable. Country: Germany Expandability for multiple users would also be interesting, that being said, my priority for now is just to reduce the amount of screens that I need to maintain, so I can more quickly test more issues on more machines on real metal in less time. So focus on responsiveness and reliability. Thanks in advance!

I'm looking for a hardware solution to use the same peripherals (mouse, keyboard and webcam) and dual monitors for my work laptop and my windows desktop. The laptop has 2 USB-C ports. I've looked online and can't find a single solution (ie. Need to buy both a dock and a KVM switch). Also from what I've read, DP is better than HDMI for NVIDIA GPUs (coz of GSync compatibility) Looking for something between $100-$250 price range (idk if that's realistic) 1. Is there a good option that can have a single USB-C input for the laptop with compatibility with the desktop? If not what's the best dock and KVM switch combo? 2. Is my conjecture that DP better than HDMI correct for my use case?

I have a JideTech 4-port VGA KVM, and I need to extend the cables because the included ones are too short. The connection between the cable and the KVM is a standard male (cable side) to female (KVM side). All I need is a regular VGA extension cable to extend the KVM cables, the only problem is I have yet to find a FULL 15-Pin cable. I have only been able to find 9-Pin cables that they falsely call "full 15-pin". I already had to return a set of extension cables because of this. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for an actual 1-1 wired 15-Pin VGA extension cable, because the KVM uses all 15-Pins. Thank you

I recently got the Gigabyte M27Q monitor which works fine when connected to my PC by HDMI but when trying to connect it to my laptop (Asus Viviobook n580vd) by the usb c port it doesn't work. When I plug the usb c port into my laptop I get an error message on my main pc "display connection might be limited" On my laptop if I look at the usb c device under device manager it says "port reset failed" when opening the properties I get an error message "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43) A USB port reset request failed." To troubleshoot I have tried 2 different cables, checked the usb c port on my laptop works by using a hdmi to usb c cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I am trying to find a way to help make my work from home setup better. My work PC is a standard laptop, but I want to use it in the same way I use my gaming PC. By that that I mean I want to sit at the same desk I normally use for gaming with the same keyboard, mouse, and monitors. I am trying to find a way to use both at the same time, if that is even possible, but just a way to easily switch between the two would help tremendously. If anyone has any advice or ideas on how I can best do this I am open to any and all suggestions. In a perfect world I would love to have my gaming pc operating as normal on the monitors and my work laptop's screen as an overlay on top.

Hello good people, your collective advice recently helped me massively upgrade my PC, for which I'm eternally grateful. But the issue I'm facing now has to do with the double-edged sword of working from home. I'm a technical artist/graphic designer, and as part of my newly-permanent work-from-home position, my employer sent me home with a Dell workstation, along with the expectedly crappy Dell monitor, cheapie keyboard, mouse and headset. Like every other designer on my team, I immediately ditched their peripherals in favor of using my own existing setup (how does anyone get anything done without at least dual monitors??) But the 2x daily (at least) ordeal of crawling around under my desk to reroute all the cables (my personal PC sits on my desk in a place of pride, my work PC sits underneath in a place of shame) is really starting to get to me. I can't have nice things like cable management of any kind, or dustbunny-free hair. I know I need a KVM switch, but the one I was provided when I brought the issue up with IT was a cheap no-brand plastic one that stopped working within 2 weeks (started causing massive lag and erroneous keystrokes, doubling, sticking, etc.) and I'm now a bit hesitant -- I want to guarantee I won't run into those same issues again. I'm providing a little diagram of what I've got going on in terms of peripherals, with two caveats: 1.) My current monitor setup isn't permanent. I have two Asus VS24As, 1920x1200, and they've done the job for a long time but I'd like both better resolution and color accuracy going forward, and would ideally like the KVM to support up to 4K to accommodate that likely upgrade soon. (Home PC has 2x HDMI and 2X DisplayPort out, work PC just has 4x Mini DisplayPort out so I'm currently using adapters to HDMI) 2.) I know a nice metal housing =/= quality internals necessarily, but ideally I'd like the KVM to have some weight to it so it can sit nicely on the desk without the bend of all the cables going into it moving it around. The old plastic one was constantly sliding around and falling behind the desk. Any advice or recommendations would be much appreciated!

So, I'm looking for a HDMI KVM switch for 10+ Windows10 PC's using RTX 30 series cards that will also be compatible with HDCP. I have found one that states HDCP 1.3 but I'm not sure how to know what version of HDCP my PC's need. TIA

I am looking for an usb KVM Switch. Basically just 3 in and 2 out. I found : (https://www.amazon.com/-/de/dp/B082K87B87/ref=sr_1_11?currency=USD&dchild=1&ie=UTF8&keywords=GeekerChip%20USB%203.0%20Switch&language=en_US&qid=1626775414&sr=8-11) on Amazon and similar stuff on some other sites. The problem is that it only has 2 ports for input. I also found some with 4 input ports but they are all usb type b which is not exactly what I want. Also I am looking for the same thing with display port (4k 60hz) instead of usb. A lot of switches out there with 2 in (like: (https://www.amazon.com/ELUTENG-Displayport-Bidirectional-Indicator-Projector/dp/B08JQDMYMY/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=DisplayPort+switch&qid=1626776320&sr=8-3)), none with 3 for a reasonable price. I am looking for two separate switches because I want to be able to control them separately. Also combined ones are incredibly expensive (like multiple hundreds of dollars). Very happy for any help on this One more thing: I actually thought about just buying 2 switches (for each dp and usb) and connecting one output to the input of another which would give me the required 3 inputs. Besides of not knowing if this works, it is a very ugly solution with tons of cable salad so I try to avoid that.

I’m looking for a USB KVM with an IR remote to allow me to control it with my Logitech Harmony hub. I would prefer to do this over IR, but I have thought about a Raspberry PI or Arduino and just soldering wires to the button contacts on a regular USB KVM, but that’s kinda a pain. I don’t need usb 3.0, just 2.0 for a keyboard/mouse and only needs to switch between two devices. Let me know if anyone’s found any in the $25-$50 range!

I'm having HELLA troubles trying to find a KVM for a reasonable price that will allow me to switch between two PC inputs with 2 outputs. This is very frustrating because every *real cheap* or even semi cheap option, seems to have major draw backs. Either with the device or the cables used with the device itself. I don't really need USB, because I have a dedicated switcher for that, but I guess it's a nice extra. It MUST have these things at bare minimum: Display port 1.4 capability (To support 1440p@144hz ) 2 Inputs, 2 outputs, that's it Please help!

I recently got the Gigabyte M32U and was wondering if I connect by KB+M to the monitor if it would cause any noticeable input lag. I'm wanting to use the built-in KVM feature which requires my KB+M to be connected directly to the monitor. I do play Warzone and Fortnite every so often and would like minimal input lag when playing these games. Appreciate any help!

Are there any KVM switches that won't disconnect when the inputs are changed? Preferably DisplayPort Do L1 KVM switches also disconnect when inputs are switched? Forgot to add: preferably one that can also take advantage of my monitor's FreeSync, which, if I remember correctly, an EDID adapter can't do.

Budget (including currency): 500 (MAX) USD $380 (after the dock was purchased) Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Work From home interface and set up. Then using my personal computer for light gaming. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Desk: The Ikea Fredehttps://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/fredde-gaming-desk-black-50219044/ Monitor: BenQ GW2765 (27" 2k) Keyboard: LG G413: I really like this key board. I like the way it feels when I type the numpad and the pact that is has a passthrough USB on it for my mouse or other accessories. Mouse: LG G502 Hero Wired(I know....) Desktop (Personal): Processor AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-Core Processor 3.20 GHz (stock cooler) Installed RAM 16.0 GB Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 (8Gb) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor I use a PCIe WiFi Card NO Bluetooth Currently. Laptop (work): Dell Precision 7560: The non Bluetooth skew. I recently switched jobs and the new job allows work from home. In addition, I just moved and will actually have an office of my own now, not just a corner of my wife's yarn room. My work does not supply a "dock" for at home use. I went on eBay and purchased a used dock of the same model number we use in the office. With working from home I now want to upgrade the non PC part of my set up. What I want: The "easy stuff" The things I already sort of specked out. Dock (bought): Dell WD19DCS $120 Monitor: Would like to get something that wont clash with my current monitor. I cannot fit anything over 27" and I would like to stick at the "2K" resolution it works really well for me and what I do. Dual Monitor arm to save space. The harder stuff: Bluetooth Expansion: While I could use add it to my desktop I would like to be able to use my Bluetooth headphones on the work laptop for the (too many) Team calls I have through out the day. I have seen the Bluetooth USB dongles for ~$25+ if one of those would work that would be awesome because I could bring into the office also to use with my wireless earbuds and use my gaming headset (which has its own dongle) with what ever switch I end up getting. Switch: The part I need the most help on. OPTION 1: FULL KVM Switch I would like a KVM switch that has USB 3.0 so I can plug a Bluetooth dongle in it or "future proof the switch" so the laptop has 1 HDMI port, 2 thunderbolt/display ports and one of the small display ports. So Display port is my preference for a KVM switch. The issue I ran into when trying to build out my set up on my own was that HDMI KVM switches and Display Port KVM Switches are the same price when they are USB 2.0. When I switched (pun not intended) to my requirement being USB 3.0 the price of the HDMI KVM Switch went up by ~$30, but the price of the Display port version jumped about $130. Having a full KVM switch would be ideal so I don't have to switch inputs on my monitor(s) every time I plug my Laptop into the dock or want to use my personal desktop. This is why the dock was the first purchase because it was a large quality of life increase for me. OPTION 2: Just a USB 3.0 Switch. This option would allow me to plug the dock into and my desktop into USB Switch and use my keyboard/mouse/webcam all with out having to replug stuff into my desktop under my desk and the laptop. This is the cheaper option, but I would still have to reach up and fiddle with monitor inputs every time and have more cable management.

Currently I switch between using my work laptop which is plugged into a docking station and my home desktop. Every time I want to change computers I have to unplug all my USB's and Ethernet from my docking station, crawl under my desk, and plug it into my desktop. I would really like a solution to fix this. All of my video cable don't need to be switched since I have everything hooked up via HDMI for my laptop and Display Port for my desktop. I currently have 5 USB's and an ethernet I swap between PC's. My new monitor supports 2 USB inputs so I could potentially go down to only needing to switch 4 USB's and an ethernet but I don't know of any good switches that would make it so I no longer need to unplug everything. Current USB devices include Logitech C9 series 1080p webcam, Razer viper ultimate mouse, Akko Mod 004 keyboard, Moto M2 2X2 preamp, and a Schiit Modius DAC. I use my home computer for gaming. Does anyone have recommendation on what I need to solve this problem? I'm about to upgrade my PC to an i7 13700K, MSI MPG Z690 Carbon wifi Motherboard, 5600 DDR 5 ram, 3080 GPU, 2 NVME SSDs, and a 1000w power supply. My download speed is only about 6-800 mb and there is no plan to go to Gigabit. Based on ports location and available I believe I am using this docking station for my work computer https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-ThinkPad-Docking-Station-Adapter/dp/B07B63BD78/ref=sr_1_26?crid=3PPN0DJKF3HBC&keywords=Lenovo+docking+station&qid=1674147000&s=electronics&sprefix=lenovo+docking+station%2Celectronics%2C100&sr=1-26&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840
