  1. Hi guys I was wondering which one is a better combo of cpu gpu? I am trying to build a budget gaming pc around USD 500 that can play games like gta v, far cry 4, witcher 3, doom in 1080p medium setting. Thank you
  2. I am planning to copy "2gamers1cpu" but since im on a budget I decided to do it with an APU for budget and low power. The goal here is to play League of Legends at decent settings (All High in 1080p @ 60fps) with my brother at low power consumption. I very much appreciate your help guys. Bitfenix Prodigy M (Artic White) AMD A8-7600 Kaveri Gigabyte F2A88XM-HD3 Seasonic M12II 520W 80+ Bronze Kingston V300 120GB SSD WD RED 2TB (Partitioned into half) Sound Card PCI 2x Kingston HyperX 8GB DDR3 1866 RAM 2x GTX 750Ti 2GB DDR5 (around U$40 each) Note: Parts that are in BOLD, those are I already bought will update this with the process when I completed the components.
  3. First off my build. CPU = Athlon x4 860k 3.7GHz - 4.0GHz Mobo = MSI A88x-G43 GPU = MSI Titanium Edition GTX 970 4GB ( Actually 3.5GB ) RAM = 2x4GB G.Skill Ripjaws 2400MHz (underclocked to 2133MHz due to mobo and cpu incompatibility) Cooler = Corsair H100i Liquid Cooler PSU = Corsair HX1050 Semi Modular HDD = 120GB Kingston SSD / 2TB WD / 1TB WD / 250GB WD Case = Thermaltake Core V51 Monitor = 60" LG Plasma TV ( So only 1920x1080) Ok so my CPU seems to be a crazy power hog. I have searched the net high and low for max voltages for this chip and have seen ppl say max is 1.475v while others have said 1.55v is safe. Right now I'm overclocked to 4.2GHz but I'm pushing 1.5v through this thing to keep it stable. I can drop that voltage to 1.48v and be stable but not in Battlefield 3 or 4. All other games are fine , everything stable, its only Battlefield that crashes to BSOD. Anything past 4.2GHz is unstable as hell. I have actually OCed to 4.5GHz and seemed stable for 5 hours of prime95, but the second i stopped the stress it freezes. So it seems stable under load , but once its at idle it will freeze needing a reboot. I have gone as far as trying 4.3GHz at 1.536v but crashed after 3 hours of prime95. All power saving options are OFF, turbo is OFF, vdroop offset control for CPU and NB are set to 80%, CPU overclocked to 4.2GHz at 1.5v, NB overclocked to 2000MHz. RAM is underclocked from 2400MHz to 2133MHz because of mobo and cpu incompatibility. Timings are set to 10-12-12-31 and 1.65v. With the H100i my temps never have went above 49C gaming or running Prime95. But voltage is already at 1.5v. Can I go higher with low temps? Is it safe to run 1.5v or a bit over for 24/7 use on kaveri steamroller? Did I maybe get a dud CPU? Anyone else have this CPU and see similar results? Another question is, they just released the 880k 4.0GHz with turbo to 4.2GHz. Would it be worth upgrading my 860k to an 880k? I do know that my CPU is bottlenecking my GTX 970 and I will be upgrading my mobo/cpu/ram soon but until then is the 880k a good option? or will it be pretty much the same as my 860k? Any response to this post is welcome as I have barely found any info on the 860k and what I have found all seems different than mine. Thx
  4. CPU = Athlon x4 860k 3.7GHz - 4.0GHz Mobo = MSI A88x-G43 GPU = MSI Titanium Edition GTX 970 4GB ( Actually 3.5GB ) RAM = 2x4GB G.Skill Ripjaws 2400MHz (underclocked to 2133MHz due to mobo and cpu incompatibility) Cooler = Corsair H100i Liquid Cooler PSU = Corsair HX1050 Semi Modular HDD = 120GB Kingston SSD / 2TB WD / 1TB WD / 250GB WD Case = Thermaltake Core V51 Monitor = 60" LG Plasma TV ( So only 1920x1080) Hi, I have a few questions about overclocking my CPU. Is it safe to go over 1.5v if my temps are down? Running prime95 my max temp on the CPU was 51C using the H100i liquid cooler. I know that voltage and heat both play a part in killing the CPU, but, I have heard some say the max voltage for the 860k is like 1.475v and others say 1.55v is OK. That seems crazy high. I am overclocked right now to 4.4GHz and sitting at 1.52v. Is this OK for 24/7 ? My temp at idle is around 30C and under load like I said it has never gone over 51C. All power saving options = OFF Spread Spectrum = OFF Software P-State Limit = OFF Vdroop Control for CPU and NB = 100% CPU Multi = 44 NB = 2200 CPU Voltage = 1.520v NB Voltage = 1.300v RAM = 2133MHz/1.65v 1-10-12-12-31 It has been pretty hard to find info on this CPU. Any help is very appreciated. Thank You.
  5. Hello, guys! I'm planning a build for my girlfriend and I'd like it to be micro Atx, while still allowing her to have the needed performance. She is no enthusiast pc gamer, but she enjoys the ocasional TF2, don't starve and other light 2d and 3d games (mostly on the TF2/CSGO range). Also, she uses a lot of Photoshop for digital art. Currently, she is used to a Haswell 1.7Ghz i5 notebook, with 8Gb of Ram and a mobile nvidia Gpu. For cost and small form factor reasons, I'm thinking about using this config: CPU: A10 7850k RAM: Kingston HyperX Savage 8GB 2400MHz DDR3 CL11 Mobo: Asus A88xm plus HDD: 1TB WD Blue Case: Thermaltake Core V21 PSU: EVGA 430W 80 Plus White DVD Drive Since the A10 is quite capable for light games, I was thinking about going for a no GPU build, which I can upgrade later anyway. What do you guys think? I want her to be able to run her PC at 1080p and play the games I mentioned at 60fps smoothly. I'm installing Windows 8.1 on it, by the way. Thanks in advance for any help
  6. So, I am a student, and pieced together about €215 of savings after about 5 months, and I want to upgrade my PC for gaming. I have been looking at a few upgrade paths and I can do this: Path 1 (Skylake, DDR4): Intel Core i3-6100, Gigabyte GA-H110M-S2H and 8GB Crucial DDR4 RAM. I can save off a couple of euros on the RAM but not much. This path will cost me €230, which is slightly over budget Path 2 (Haswell, DDR3): Intel Core i3-4170, MSI H81M-P33 and 8GB Crucial DDR3 RAM. This'll cost me €186, so I will have €29 left over for something else Path 3 (Vishera, DDR3): AMD FX-8320, Gigabyte-GA-78LMT-USB3 and Crucial 8GB DDR3 RAM. This, is once again over budget at €239, unless I go for the FX-6300. Path 4 (Kaveri, DDR3): AMD Athlon X4 860K, ASRock FM2A88M Extreme4+ and Crucial 8GB DDR3 RAM Cheapest route, at €156. I might be able to sneak in an SSD as well (or some steam games) Path 5 (???): Your choice, in that case put it in the comments. The reason I put this up here, since I have a difficulty finding out what is the best option. 3 out of 4 CPUs aren't on Anandtech's CPU bench which is what I usually look at. My current specs are: Intel Core2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHz some OEM LGA775 mobo 4GB DDR2-800 RAM 750GB HDD GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Corsair Carbide SPEC-03 Cooler Master V450 Thanks for your help!
  7. Msi a88x g45 gaming edition Apu Amd a6 7400k black edition Transcend ssd 128gb Western digital 1tb hdd Crucial ballistix 8gb 1866 mhz ram ddr3 Corsair vs series 450w psu LG dvd writer My operating systems ( win7 ultimate and Ubuntu 14.04 lts) can't install on my mobo. This is a new pc build. Tried ahci/ide. Tried before and after I formatted ssd to ntfs. Tried different boot settings. Win7 is on disk and Ubuntu on usb through rufus bootable etc. Tried re assembling everything. I used a msi a88xm e45 mobo and still gives the same errors and problems ( no solution) . Windows shows boot logo then error. Ubuntu screen goes black or gives error like kernel.. Exit.. Or whatev.. Errors upon errors. Trying to get this pc to install an os for a month now and still nothing. Just got this mobo today and tried everything once again and the BIOS version is V1.0 .. Could the BIOS be the reason my pc won't load an operating system? Please if you could help. Highly appreciated.
  8. Hello friends, I have been looking to build a small budget gaming pc. As this is budget i need to include AMD in it. Since my case is Corsair 380-t there are no AM3+ mini itx mobo available as of now. I want to play games in 1080p at ultra settings and it should be future proof so that I could play some newer games also. I am thinking of getting a Kaveri refresh (A10 7870k) and then will eventually pair it with R7 250 2gb GDDR3 GPU. This will be cheap as hell and on internet I could see some good benchmarks also. Let me know what you guys think of this and other suggestions are also welcome. Gurpreet
  9. I'm in the GPU thread. Other people have asked the same type of question I'm about to ask. Here goes nothing. I'm building a bidget PC. My dad generously offered that he'll pay for the parts, only if all of them add up to a $1000 or less. I got a liist of parts that I want for the system build, pretty decent parts actually. Compatibility checks out through all the components. Now I have around $300 to spend on a graphics card. Windforce GTX 960 vs. MSI R9 380. These are options that I have. I've made my research on the price of each GPU and it fits perfectly into the budget. But me being a mediocre computer geek, I don't know much about GPUs, even though I know plenty about other PC parts. I don't have an nvidia sheild so neither card weighs on any side at the moment. So if anyone would be kind enough to tell me with what I should go with, that'd be great. A definite answer and then a breakdown on why that particular card. Thanks.
  10. Is it worth it to buy an aftermarket cooler for a 5800k and overclock it ? Or just buy a second hand processor and sell the 5800k. I hear it can be overclocked to 4.7 stable with an aftermarket cooler? If overclocking the 5800k is worth it then can anyone recommend me a good aftermarket cooler? (40$ range) If it's not worth it then can anyone tell me a great processor? Oh by the way i have an individual gpu (GTX 460) Engrish ish knot my nitive languish ~ English is not my native language so sorry for my grammar.
  11. Hello. I'm an owner of the 7850k APU. Having used this hardware for almost a year now, I wish to share my insights on this product with you, especially stuff that is generally not reviewed or analyzed enough by others. So, here are the contents of this review: General description of the 7850k, target market and purpose. Possible applications and recommended configurations. Does overclocking make sense? My rig, RAM and IMC performance. Pros and Cons. What makes sense to buy. Conclusion. Thoughts about future APUs and possible benefits. 1) General description of the 7850k, target market and purpose The 7850k is what I consider a solid release by AMD in years. Although, this might sound controvertial to some since the CPU side of this APU is relatively weak, AMD still managed to pack what is nearly an SOC, on a single die with a 28nm manufacturing process. This indicates that the general layout or architecture of the chip is probably more advanced than the CPU cores themselves. In fact, you get many features and functionality with this chip (although not everything is that useful **cough cough*** true audio ***cough). So where is this chip marketed towards? AMD markets the chip mostly towards online gamers as a cheaper alternative to CPU+dGPU combo. In that usage scenario, a well rigged solution based on the A10 can do a magnificent job with an overall good efficiency and low cost. So the purpose of making this chip was to basically try to obtain a beter foothold in the entry level segment but mostly on what you could call the competitive online segment of the market. 2) Possible applications and recommended configurations In my opinion, this APU is good for the following applications: HTPC and entertainment platform capable of running 3D applications. Kind of SteamBox. Small form factor PC, especially in slim desktop cases. Entry level gaming PC with the option to achieve mid-range capabilities. All-around cheap workhorse (games, media, office work, light CAD etc.). Professional light workstation (especially the B variant for everyday office work and light GFXs apps). In general, if you are opting for this kind of processor, you are not into spending too much money. Considering this, you will want to spend more money where it matters the most and not just shovel the money away for cool LEDs. Case: I would recommend micro towers and slim desktop cases. If you don't care too much about your PC being ultra-small or want to preserve the option to upgrade, the micro tower offers better expandability, cooling and general options. If you need the PC for your living room or want the smallest possible PC with this APU, you will be better off with a slim case. MoBo: FM2+ boards are either mini ITX or micro ATX. Both slim and micro cases usually accomodate both sizes. However, for the slim case, I would recommend either a mini ITX board or a smaller micro ATX with only two DIMM slots and lower height. PSU: What power supply you need depends on how you are going to use the system. If you are going for a slim desktop, you should go for a maximum power of 350 Watts, while for other usages with a dGPU, you should go for something in between 350 and 500 Watts. For smaller cases, you will want to have a PSU with high efficiency in order to avoid thermal issues due to the PSU becoming hot and noisy. Case Cooling: If you want very silent operation, Noctua's fans offer great performance but at a high cost. Can't recommend them for a cheap system. However, for slim cases which only have one 80mm fan position, buying only one noctua or any other high quality fan, kinda makes sense. You will mainly require very silent operation for living room usages, and higher cooling performance for gaming. CPU Cooling: Aftermarket cooling is a must! I got greater stability and performance by installing an aftermarket cooler. This is due to the thermal margins of the processor. If you manage to keep it cool, it will throttle less, thus preserving its performance. Otherwise, your APU will throttle down more often. More on this later. Storage: Oh dear, once you go SSD you never go back. My opinion here is terribly biased towards SSDs. I do not even consider HDDs anymore. For slim desktops, SSDs make up for a very lucrative solution mainly due to their absolutely silent operation and extremely low thermals. Use HDDs on micro cases if you need the extra, cheap storage. 3) Does overclocking make sense? It depends. Let us make an assumption regarding the usage and life cycle of a system. Let's say that you are short on cash and need a gaming rig fast for some online gaming. So you get your components, build your system and are ready to go. Now what? Should you overclock? YES (and also no). Download AMD's overdrive and squeezzzzzzz a few more MHz out of your iGPU. And you could say now: Why not OC the CPU as well? Firstly, the APU throttles down when it detects load on the iGPU so you are gonna max out at 3.0 GHz anyway. Secondly, the CPU performance at 3.0 GHz is more than enough for what the iGPU can offer. Lastly, even by modifying the p states in order to get 4.0 GHz or more at the "throttled" state, your APU power consumption is going to rise from what is about 105 Watts to about 120 W or more. You will need very good cooling for that which is a no go for small PCs. However, apart from overcloking the GPU side, there are two other things that will benefit your system a lot if overclocked. The RAM and the Integrated Memory Controller or IMC. More on that on section 4. Now after a year of gaming on the iGPU, you want AND can upgrade to a dGPU. So you buy your graphics card, install it and realize that the iGPU is not of much benefit anymore but, on the other hand, you could use some extra juice from the CPU to cope with your newly acquired GPU. This is the moment to OC the CPU side. If you disable the iGPU, you dedicate all of your RAM to your CPU as well as all of your available power and cooling capacity. Your CPU is not gonna throttle anymore and you will enjoy decent performance with any graphics card with performance up to what an R9 280/380 can offer. After that, your CPU is definitely gonna become a complete bottleneck unless you run Vulkan/Mantle or DX12. 4) My rig and experiences, RAM and IMC Performance My rig: Case: Collermaster Elite 342 micro tower. APU: A10 7850k RAM: Team Group Vulcan 2x4GB @ 2400MHz CL11, single rank DIMMs (FORMER) G.Skill Trident X 2x4Gb @ 2400MHz CL10, dual rank DIMMs (CURRENT) MoBo: ASUS A88XM-E PSU: Passive PFC 400W Evolveo PSU (good enough for low loads, made in europe) Cooling: 2 extra 92mm fans for side inlet and rear exhaust. Some Artic Cooling fans. +1x 120m Coolermaster fan for frontal inlet (included with case). APU Cooling: Noctua NH-L9a upgraded with 92mm Noctua NF-A9 Case Cooling: 1x frontal 120mm Noctua NF-S12Am, side 92mm Noctua NF-A9, rear exhaust 92mm Noctua NF-A9x14 (from heatsink) Optical Drive: Samsung DVD RW Storage: Samsung 840 EVO SSD 120Gb G.Skill RAM was bought with an eye on building another PC for my brother with the Team Group RAM. So I combined an upgrade for me with another future build. Also yes, I like Noctua's stuff. OC: IMC +100MHz, iGPU @ 900 MHz, extreme profile for G.Skill RAM with further tweaked secondary timings. This review is not meant to provide you with exact numbers regarding FPS but mostly info on what you can and cannot do with this APU. Sooo, here are my experiences: 1) Skyrim on basically Ultra Settings, except resolution (1440x900), no MSAA (FXAA is enough for this res), and shadows on high. 30 to 60 FPS usually around 45 fps. 2) Thief, Mantle. 1440x900 medium settings, benchmark gave 25.0 fps minimum (avg over 30). Actual gameplay was usually well above 30 fps. 3) Source games, 1440x900 Ultra Settings more than 45 fps. 4) Sins of a Solar Empire, 1440x900, Single Player, lower RAM timings give great benefit here. Frames cap at 60. At normal speed, you can have some deeps of 20 fps in late game with large fleets and some AI opponents. Keep in mind that the code of this game is dated 32-bit with some issues regarding max memory use and stuff. 5) Bitcher 2... I meant Witcher, Witcher 2 of course, 30-50 fps but 1280x800 with low+ settings, normal viewing distances, bloom, no texture downscaling and normal memory footprint. 6) Mount and blade Warband: hehe no problem there. 7) Planetside 2: This one is interesting: 1440x900 with render quality of 89%, textures on high, graphics quality on medium, models on medium, bloom off and other stuff on low. FPS can exceed 65 BUT, in large battles (biolabs), you kinda get 25 fps. However, with the single rank, higher timings of Team Vulcan RAM, I used to go below 20 in those situations. Better latency proves to improve those cpu intensive situations by quite a bit. 8) Media playback: no issues, audio quality set at Studio level quality 24bits 48000Hz. 9) Office work is fluent, light CAD apps are no problem, boots in less than 12 seconds in Win 7 64-bit. Now, let's talk about RAM and the IMC of the Kaveri APUs. Let's take a look at the results from AIDA 64 with the G.Skill RAM: There are two numbers that stand out in the CPU Memory Benchmark, the write performance and the latency. If you check the second image with the results of the GPGPU benchmark you will see that the write speed is prety much the same. Why? I think it is due to the architecture of the IMC, although I'm not an expert in these matters, it seems that the IMC cannot handle many write instructions (?) per cycle. A Pentium with decent 1600 MHz RAM generally has higher performance than the A-10 in regards to write speed. This in my opinion is the bottleneck of the iGPU, IMC write performance. In regards to high latency, it seems to be a matter of low clock for the IMC. The result you see in the image above is with a slight OC of 100 MHz on the IMC. Another 100 MHz with significantly higher voltages brings the latency down by about 2ns. Team Vulcan RAM with IMC at 1900MHz and lots of timing tweaks, yielded a latency of about 77.5ns. Better latency should mostly benefit the CPU since on common workloads, the CPU doesn't fully utilize the bandwidth of the RAM but still requires quick response from it. After lots of research, I concluded that the APUs should use RAM with the following characteristics and settings: Dual-rank modules. 4GB modules are usually dual sided AND dual ranked. RAM specs on AIDA64 can confirm this info. 8GB modules are nearly always dual ranked for DDR3 (at least from my experience). Dual-Channel configuration with channel interleaving and bank interleaving enabled (MoBo side). No less than 8 GB of RAM. Highest possible frequency. 2400MHz for DDR3 is good. More than that is usually too expensive. MoBo must support the OC frequency. Lowest possible latency for given frequency. Although the GFXs don't benefit much from this, tighter primary timings are usually coupled with tighter secondary and tertiary timings. Trident X memory modules are a good example of this. Tighter timings will yield better write and copy speeds as it seems. Dedicate 2GB to the iGPU As an example for the significance of RAM performance for the iGPU, with Team Vulcan RAM, after getting the timings as tight and stable as possible, with an OC of the IMC of 100 MHz, Win7 GFXs benchmark scored 6.9 out of 7.9. With the G.Skill memory I went to 7.0 out of 7.9 which translated into about +10% in fps. Also, while with Team memory I could get benefits with an OC of the iGPU up to 850MHz, G.Skill RAM extended the benefit from overclocking up to 900MHz. Basically, the bottleneck limit has been extended. Also, a last, little thing to consider when overclocking the IMC. It is easy to oc it to 1900 MHz from 1800MHz but getting it as high as 2000MHz requires serious bumps in the "NB" voltage. It shouldn't be a problem since the CPU part operates at even higher voltages but, your thermals are gonna suffer from it a lot for what is gonna be two less nanoseconds in memory latency. 5) Pros and Cons. What makes sense to buy. Since this is already a wall of text, and is only gonna get worse, I'll make lists: Pros Great bundle of features. Good, reliable performance for basic computing and light gaming. Low price for the MoBo with a rich feature set. Overclockable. Good as a gaming rig if upgraded during its life cycle with a dGPU. DX12 compatible and HSA capabilities offer good future compatibility. Low power requirments overall. Excellent for little, cheap builds. Dual graphics with low profile cards is a decent option for slim cases. Can work as a console. Cons This is basically the best you can get from FM2+. Not really upgradable (CPU wise). Carizzo might be FM2+ compatible but the upgrade expense is a no go if you already own or plan to buy Kaveri. Not a good CPU for heavier workloads. It wil run stuff but much slower than an intel quad core. IMC creates the whole bottleneck for graphics. Can't change that. MoBos which support RAM with higher than 2400MHz frequencies are too expensive to be even considered an option. Marketing gimmicks if you tell me. Finding good RAM can be problematic. Buying the correct GPU is much easier for instance. Tweaking the BIOS settings to get it to work nicely, can be a long task. On the other hand, just like me, you might like doing this kind of stuff. Was too expensive at launch. Models to consider: A10 7850k, for the best gaming experience. A8 7650k, for good value and good gaming experience on various mainstream titles. A6 7400k, for affordable, feature rich everyday computing and HTPC applications. The Godavari APUs (A10 7870k and A8 7670k) offer bad value BUT the APU's heatspreader is soldered to the chip. This should make quite the difference in thermals. If they also have indeed better binning, you should get the best OCs with those. EDIT Thanks to the input of member trucker2, it seems that the A10 7870k offers good value after all. This is due to the large, dual heatpipe, copper plate heatsink AMD bundles it with. That compined with the flux solder of the heatspreader should yield very good results in regards to cooling. 6) Conclusion. Thoughts about future APUs and possible benefits. The 7850k is indeed a nice piece of hardware. If you set aside the levels of performance on an asbolute scale, this is quite the achievement architecturaly. But what are the benefits from such technology? HSA will offer great efficiency, especially on mobile platforms. It is not that simply by chance Samsung, ARM and others have joined the HSA organization. They probably aim on introducing this technology in phones and tablets as well. But from a PC perspective, what can this offer? With the launch of the Fury lineup this summer, AMD introduced the first commercial product with HBM memory. if they are to extend the usage of this technology on their APUs - and it would be stupid not to do so - they could bring real FHD and maybe even UHD capabilities to their SOCs. Very small form factor systems could be made using hybrid memory controlers, taking advantage of both HBM and DDR4 memory. Although such platforms would not be that cheap, they would probably remove the need of a dGPU for most applications except high-end gaming. Of course, these are all wild assumptions and it might prove impractical to AMD to bring HBM to such a high scale (manufacturing wise). Still, SOCs might provide, compact, power efficient, powerful, silent and neat solutions for most home users. This would bring new, competitive and useful products into the market, and of course, you will be able to run skyrim on those. If you made it this far, I hereby award you the medal of patience, and free time. If you want to correct something or add info, please let me know. Also, input regarding why the IMC is so slow, would be highly appreciated. Thank you! *****************EDIT 6/4/2016*************************** After having upgraded my system with a dedicated GPU, I went on tweaking my overclock on the CPU side. What I noticed though this time around is that any overclock on the IMC, will cause instability at some point, especially with a 20x multiplier. If you are using a Kaveri (probably this applies to a Godavari APU/CPU) as a CPU only, I suggest you do not overclock the IMC at all. Keep it at the default 1800MHz and focus on the CPU side. You are gonna get the most out of your OC that way.
  12. Hi everyone, need some help. Got the MSI A88XM Gaming motherboard which natively supports 2133 mhz ram and so does my kaveri apu. However neither XMP profiles or any other combination of manual timings or auto settings lets it run without crashing, freezing, or blue screening. 1866 also can't get stable, and is only stable at 1600. I just can't figure out if it's a faulty board, memory support issue, or my inexperience with MSI click bios 4. Also updated from version 1.1 to 1.4, no difference. Originally I was running my A10-7850k on the Asus A88XM-A. My RipjawsX two 2x4GB kits of 2133Mhz CL11 ran stable after enabling XMP, and I had a stable OC to 4.4Ghz @ 1.46875V, on Hyper 212 Evo max ~50 degrees with prime95 and furmark cpu burn. As soon as I transitioned to the new board, re installed windows 8.1 and everything, and just endless instability unless I run at 1600 and stock. Not sure if relevant but here are my other specs. Evga 500W 80+ bronze, 500gb 850 evo, asus r7 260x, 1tb baraccuda, antec gx500.

  14. I'm putting together a build centered around an AMD Kaveri APU (A10-7850k). It's going onto an Asus A88X-Plus motherboard, booting from a 240GB SSD from PNY (MacBook Pro replacement drive). I'm looking at the G.Skill TridentX 2400Mz 2x4GB kit for RAM. My questions: 1. The Asus site says that the MB supports RAM up to 2400(O.C.), will it naturally support the RAM, or will I have to do some overclocking configuration to make it work? 2. Which video card will work best with this combination? (Best bang for the buck, not latest and greatest.) 3. Your favorite fully modular PSU in the 550-650 range? Thanks for your help.
  15. Build: Gigabyte F2A88X-D3H motherboard AMD A10-7870K APU 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro series DDR3 2133mhz RAM 250GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD I am using the stock CPU cooler and have three 120mm case fans running. Temps are all good. I am trying to overclock the RAM in this board to 2400mhz, as it is an APU and the on board graphics will benefit from higher speeds. As soon as I do this, I boot into windows and then hit a blue screen after about 5 mins. Please HELP?! This is my first build and first time trying to overclock!
  16. I just finished building my pc: CPU: A8-7650k RAM: GSKILL 8gb 2400mhz (2×4gb) MB: Gigabyte F2a88xm-d3h (rev 3.1) PSU: an old one Whenever I go into Bios after max 1 minute the pc freezes. Before freezing the cpu fan spins very fast and temperature rises fast from 50 to 60 °C (and than it freezes so I don't know if it goes any higher). If I boot into windows it works for a while but then it freezes as well. If I run memtest 5.01 the RAM pass all 11 tests and temperatures are about 25 °C. If I leave it running after a file (about 1 hour) it freezes as well. All components are new except for PSU. What i tried: - Using 2 different psu (both of them pretty old but working) - Using only one stick of RAM at a time in different slots - Unplugging everything except cpu ram psu and monitor - Updating BIOS to last version (F8) - Clear CMOS - BIOS on default settings Can you help me solving this problem? Thank you very much!
  17. Okay so ever since the power went out at my home, my front audio jack on my case stop working properly. I try opening a video on youtube and i'm getting corrupted sound, I can't hear the person talking, I can only hear the ambient sound of the video. Did the power outage short circuit the front panel connector? At first I thought it was my headphones, but I try every headphones I got and I get the same issued. Currently i'm using the back panel audio jack on the back of my case and it seems to be working fine. My issued is the front panel connector. Is there a way to fix this problem? I'm using an onboard soundcard that's on my motherboard. My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-G1.Sniper A88X ATX FM2+ Motherboard, and i'm using Fractal Design Define R4 case. Do you suggest I buy USB sound card adapter like this for example http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003ZM0XIY/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=6738&creativeASIN=B003ZM0XIY&linkCode=as2&tag=httpwwwtota0e-21 for a work around? My PC specs: AMD - A10-7850k APU with Radeon™ R7 Graphics 3.70GHz Gigabyte GA-G1.Sniper A88X ATX FM2+ Motherboard Patriot Viper 3 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory (currently running at 2133mhz) EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply Windows 8.1 If you need anymore information just ask.
  18. Could you tell me about the AMD Kaveri APUs? I have some especific questions. But any info is useful... - How does RAM affect the GPU side of these APUs? - What is their Intel equivalent? (On the CPU side) - What dedicated GPU will be bottlenecked by them? Will a GTX 960 or R9 285 work fine? - How overclocking them affects their performance? What about power consumption and heat output? - What is the dGPU equivalent to their iGPU? - What is the difference between them? - Can they run Crysis?
  19. Hi. I'm new on the forum and not a computer mastermind. I recently build my first PC and all went well. I did not knew at the time that my Cpu was not a k-version. I have A-8 7600 and I need to know hot to in the Bios i can raise the TDP to 65W so my CPU can reach 4Ghz. I read that when he is 45W he can only turbo to 3.8 Ghz. My motherboard is Gigabyte A88XM D3H micro Atx and my Bios is number 5 I think. I am running ubuntu 14.04 as an OS and cant or dont know how to update the bios when using Linux Ubuntu. All I want is someone to help me get my CPU to TDP in 65W or some trick to overclock it. I have never overclocked a CPU but I have watched few videos but these Bios of Gigabyte is confusing to me.
  20. Tech Report techreports that Carizzo - AMD's next line of APUs sporting the Excavator architecture and full HSA compliance - will come to consumers only in laptops and all-in-ones (and presumably mini PCs), but not as socketed parts for enthusiast system builders. What the FM2+ platform is getting though is a new mid-range unlocked Kaveri chip - the A8-7650K. It's basically the A8-7700K, the main differnce being a marginally lower stock clock and a considerably lower MSRP - $105. Also coming - a new budget chipset.
  21. Hi there im new and i recently made my first build MY setup Zalman m1 micro itx case 2 Fans front and back (stock ones) AMD 860k MSI FM2+A88x itx mobo G skill Trident x 8gb 2400 ram cooling: corsair h100i with stock fans just bought this two days ago. okay so this the problem so i have this cooler i keep getting at idle from 43c to 58c using corsair link and when im running bf4 its about 78c The issue is isnt my idle temp reads meant to be lower and my mobo hard drive and h100i temp are in the 25 to 30c zone.. i find this odd Yes i have re seated the waterblock 3 time and 2 times with a coolermaster thermal paste from hyper 212 (cuz i couldnt find my artic) I did wipe using isopropyl alcohol the cpu and the waterblock Can anyone tell me what should i do? am planning on removing the stock fans and buy the noctua ones which linus is always recommending. Cheers
  22. Hi guys. We had nice years of Phenoms II, after little disappointment from Bulldozer FX-8150/8120. These CPus were not so bad, but people waited more. Multithread was solid, single worse. But much bigger issue we thought this will be real 8 core and 8 core performance. After some time we understand this is against 4c/8t Intel CPUs...Vishera was nice improvement over first Bulldozer. Yeah, OC awesome, performance clock to clock much better, better in games also. It was 2012 year. After 3 years are these CPUs still rock solid, but outdated also. Some reborn or interesting for someone could be high clockend FX-9590/9370 and last one steppings with FX-8320E, 8370E, 8370. E version as 95W TDP CPUs. Nice. But now we are waiting for new Zen... APU world is different story. All APUs from hardware point and performance view were good. Sometimes price cost was not ideal, but its not about it today...Year and half before we can seen Kaveri CPU in desktop. 3rd Bulldozer family with new socket FM2+. Now, in last month, coming light refresh Kaveri in A10-7870K. With some tets the higher IPC per core from Bulldozers and AMD CPUs ever. CPU is new stepping of old one A1 revision in 7850K etc. Interesting is also, under the heatspreader is not calssic TIM, but this metal plate. The CPU-Z show some information about chip. The classic frequency is 3900 MHz, but maximal turbo is up to 4200 MHz for CPU cores. The iGPU running at quite high 866 MHz at default settings. Interesting could be, the VID of CPU in load is high. ussually around 1.475-1.488V! iGPU around 1.22x V. Temperatures in idle and in load (stress test AMD stability overdrive). The metal between CPU and IHS is very good for temps. CPU with much higher voltage than 7850K is luke warm. CPU BOX is nice and bigger than another APU CPUs. New is also CPU cooler BOX. The similar is in the AMD FX! So copper heatpipes, and relatively quiet Cooler Master fan. Lets go for some benchamrks at stock: Superpi 4M (there is older CPUZ before after I updated it) GPUPI CPU100M nad GPU 1B AIDA bandwith memory and cache (2133 AMP profile memory) y-cruncher with AVX suppoer and some others instructions, results for 500M test wprime x264FHD x265 Fritzchess Cinebench R10 single thread, R11.5, R15 3D Marks and few older Games (DX10+DX11 also) UT3 Far Cry II AVP Sniper Elite 2 Undervolting and overl:banana::banana::banana::banana:ing I think, the VID for CPU is very high, remmeber the 7850K had around 1.3V as VID, so why for next 100-200 MHz increase voltage so high? Interesting, the powerconsumption with this high voltage is not much higher than 7850K, only around +10W. But I was interesting for quick undervolting. Ater I saved around 25W of power consumption down...See results bellow. And now overclocking. Also I was looking forward for overlcok the new chip. Ussually your Kaveri 7850K or 7700K will be able to get around 4400 MHz at CPU and around 950-1000 at iGPU in average. With solid aircooling of course. And what about new 7870K? Wow, it was fun! The chip is very good for OC. +300 MHz better! With stock voltage I got 4600 MHz stable With max voltage 1.53V I stabilized afterall CPU at excelent 4746 MHz! Some test after OC= 4746 MHz CPU and 1050 MHz iGPU The A10-7870K surprised me. I thought, this will be only new higher clocked and "boring" Kaveri, but the overclocking, undervolting and overall better voltage and temps behaviors are nice bonus for me. So if you are enthusiast of AMD and you are looking for FM2+ CPUs/APU I can recommend you this A10-7870K
  23. I'll post a list of the parts I have first: PSU: silverstone SFX 450w modular gold rated Motherboard: ASRock fm2+ITX a88x APU: I have 7850k RAM: HyperX Beast 2400mhz (only 4x2 set that was dual rank and 2400mhz) Heatsink: I have two spares that will likely fit right now; the Silverstone NT06 and a Corsair h60 ( the preferred cooler ) SSD: Crucial MX100 512gb (SSD only system) Disc Drive: Just bought an OEM slim line blu ray drive (40$ awww yeah) Fans: 3 Cougar Vortex fans OS: I have a legal copy and key of windows 8 Anyways, those are the parts I have, might have missed something. The case I intended to use was the Raven RVZ01B, as it has a lot of features in a very small and good looking form factor, maybe I will use the ft03 if compatibility with the H60 becomes an issue. Things I was wondering will the tube bending I have seen with the h60 actually be an issue, if it cannot be mounted in any other way to avoid this, can the h60 instead be mounted in the compartment used to house the GPU to nullify the issue, (Linus mentioned that in his video covering it sort of) and finally, any case suggestions would be helpful, must be mini itx though. Also, this is my first real post here, if I breached any protocol or you need any other info, let me know. I am also heavily considering expandability, as later on I may want to gut this and turn it into an intel build. I was very very very heavily considering an intel pentium anniversary and 750ti build (especially with that dead sexy galaxy razor.)
  24. So im picking out some parts for a new build. Im trying to go with a mid level expense/performance computer. I choose Kaveri. Linus and AMD say that Kaveri is great with an R7 250, so thats what im gonna spring for. The R7 250 has two variants and a million manufactures. I wanted an answer for some questions about them. >should I go with the GDDR5 1 gig or the DDR3 2 gig? >Which manufactures would you guys recommend? >Should I even be buying a R7 250, or is there a better card out there now for that price range? >Would it be worth crossfiring it with the Kaveri or doubling up on that cards later down the road? Thanks alot guys. I appreciate the help here. If it means anything im planning on using a Asus Crossblade Ranger.
