Summary Two issues: a bad automated mis-translation and an auto-moderation change to particular Palestinian accounts which has harmed their posts' reach. Mis-translation - reported 19/20: Meta has apologized saying a bug caused 'inappropriate' auto-translations. The bug 'affected users with the word “Palestinian” written in English on their profile, the Palestinian flag emoji and the word “alhamdulillah” written in Arabic. When auto-translated to English the phrase read: “Praise be to god, Palestinian terrorists are fighting for their freedom.” It now reads "Thank God". A Meta spokesperson on 20/10: “We fixed a problem that briefly caused inappropriate Arabic translations in some of our products. We sincerely apologize that this happened.” Moderation change - reported 19/10: Several individual Palestinian accounts experiencing a substantial drop in views and exposure in the past week since the conflict began, or even being banned outright and without warning. This isn't new; 'in May 2021 during a separate escalation in Palestine, Facebook and Instagram users posting about Palestine reported a similar reduction in the reach of their posts.' At the time, the auto-moderation incidents led 200 Meta employees to write an open letter to management demanding that Meta address moderation shortcomings. A subsequent independent analysis commissioned by Meta found that Instagram/Facebook had violated Palestinian human rights by censoring content related to Israel's 2021 attacks on Gaza. This probably isn't some Meta executive turning the knobs of moderation to squash individual Palestinian views; it is probably automated. Which makes it worse: what will the automated system decide to subjugate and censor next?? The moderation is clearly being supported by algorithms or high-level assumptions that have internal biases of some sort, but Meta is not transparent enough to reveal what those biases might be. This isn't an isolated incident, but in this case a pattern of behaviour that has repeatedly and specifically impacted Palestinian accounts. This has been flagged by Meta, studied by Meta, and supposedly 'Fixed' by Meta. But it doesn't seem to have been fixed. What will it take to properly change big social media moderation practices? I can't seem to find any information on how or why this is happening, but whenever I take a photo within the Instagram app, it seems to add a huge amount of smoothing and color blowout. This happens with both the front and rear facing cameras, while the stock camera app doesn't share the issue. I'm wondering if there is a way of turning this "feature" off or anything I can do to make photos taken in the app like the ones from the stock camera app.

Photos and videos are displayed in the incorrect order in Twitter and Instagram when trying to upload. In WhatsApp and TikTok they're displayed in the correct order. This bug happens in the s20 running on android 10, ONE UI 2.5

Hey guys So I was browsing Instagram the over day and received a sponsored story by BestBuy. I have honestly no clue why in the first place, as BestBuy doesn't operate any stores in Germany. The ad itself looks really shady and kinda like a scam. However tapping the profile at the top redirected me to the official BestBuy account. Has their account been compromised or is Instagram just a little messed up?

Hey everyone, A couple days ago I had my first experience being hacked on Instagram. How it happened is something I cannot figure and its seriously bugging me. I use a password manager that generates a strong password to secure to my account. I have 2 factor authentication set up and my choice was to use the password managers one time password as the authenticator as well as sms code. I have login notifications on as well so anytime I login I get an email and a push notification. I also have suspicious login attempt notifications on. Upon waking up the other day, I received a text from a few friends alerting me I was hacked. I did not receive a email login notification nor did I receive a push notification or suspicious login attempt notification. I did not receive a text with a 2-step code. Thankfully in my case, my password was not changed. I was able to open Instagram as usual and logout the other person who signed in. They were signed in from Germany. Here's what I do not understand, I logged in on my PC to change my password, immediately I got an email and push notification alerting me of a suspicious login attempt that requires my approval. Why did this not happen when said hacker logged in? I know most "hacks" are phishing except I've only ever been logged in on my phone and I have never used a third party app to sign in with my Instagram. I also change my password every 6 months out of fear of being hacked since its happened to multiple of my friends. Does anyone know how it is possible that they were able to by pass 2-factor and login notifications?

Hi! I had my Instagram account setup with 2FA using Microsoft Authenticator. I had to reset my phone and doing so lost Microsoft Authenticator backup when I logged back in. I don't have the backup codes and now I can't login into my account. Anyone knows how to solve this? Instagram only redirects me to 'Help Center' that doesn't have a solution and I can't find any other solution... Thanks

Yesterday the news broke of a bug on Instagram servers that leaked email-addresses and phone numbers of "high profile" users. Someone is claiming to have exploited above bug and build a database of data belonging to 6 million users, containing email-addresses and phone-numbers. This dude is selling the data with a searchable website charging $10 per query! Also apparently it wasn't as "labor intensive" as first thought: It is not confirmed yet if this data is legit. But it is assumed that it is. Security researched Troy Hunt: And from the article: This is some quite bad news honestly. A database of millions of users, not only exposing email-addresses (yay spamlists...) and phone-numbers. But actually tying those together! I think that's data that's immensely valuable to people who want to successfully impersonate other people. We all remember the time linus' twitter got hacked and there it was his phone-number that was key part of how it was done. Lets hope it becomes clear as soon as possible if this data is actually legit (but lets assume it is) and I really wonder how Instagram/Facebook will respond to this..

Does anyone know how to get proper support from Instagram? I'm trying to setup a new IG account for a business, but it's saying that email address was already in-use by another account (which isn't possible, I just created it). When I contacted IG support to send them a request to fix this, their reply was; "this isn't the right channel to deal with that request, please contact IG support." with a link. That link takes me to exactly where I had submitted the issue in the first place >_< (which I replied and told them this and have not received any response)... I need this resolved ASAP. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So I have just set up a new internet connection I’m Victoria in my new residence. The install went fine and all the internet is working. All apps and programs run perfectly on the new internet. Now here’s the weird problem. I can go on Instagram and use it, but I cannot like pictures or comment on pictures. Whenever I try a pop up occurs saying “link not allowed”. And then says there is a link Instagram doesn’t like in my bio. However there is no link in my bio, just my name only, and this problem occurs with everyone who comes and try’s that. But only on phones. It works perfectly fine on computers. I’ve checked the firewall and protection setting s on the router and they all allow everything. So I’m confused as to what could be stopping that. Any ideas or help would be useful. Cheers!

So my Internet was sluggish for some reason, and couldn't load photos as I was trying to view an Instagram page. Then I noticed this "weird" text behind the said photos. I have used my master MS Paint skills to edit out the person's information for obvious reasons. Text (in Greek) translates as follows: 1. Picture may contain: 1 person, close up. 2. Picture may contain: one or more persons and people sitting. 3. Picture may contain: 1 person 4. Picture may contain: 1 person, (sun)glasses. 5. Picture may contain: text. I found it weird and interesting. Maybe something to do with Instagram's algorithm to recognize what's in a picture?

Hello everyone, recently i did a little experiment involving Instagram and its image compression. I took the same image taken by my DSLR, uploaded one using my S8 and the other using a friends iPhone 10. The quality of the image uploaded by the iPhone was so much more sharper and detailed than that on my S8. After reading up on this, apparently this is due to the fact that there are so many different android devices, Instagram cant make an app that is dedicated to them all, therefore has a universal one. While obviously on apples side it can focus on making just 2/3. This then affects the quality of the image that is uploaded. Now my question is, is there any workaround to this aside from doing the typical lightroom resize to 1080px (which from my testing still doesnt provide as sharp of an image as on an iphone, but does help), or simply going out and buying an iPhone? Perhaps a modded apk which works around this? I havent been able to find much doing a google search so maybe someone on here can help. Thanks in advance.

Hello guys. Almost a week ago, I made a third instagram account. I was logged in to all the 3 of them from my phone. Suddenly, other people stories couldn't load on my main account. The others are fine. I tried manually stop instagram from the settings, I cleared the cache, reinstalled it, got an update but nothing. From the pc, I can't see the stories as usual, but not on my phone. I'm running the latest Android and Instagram version ( not beta). Have you got any ideas?

Hi, so i have 3 Instagram accounts. One was opened this year and two were open 2 years ago. The account that I opened this year has some major problem, that it misses some functionality such as uploading photo to Instagram Story when the photo or video is taken after 24hours. And when i want to upload the video , i cant edit or trim the video. It is giving massive headache to me. And when i use the 2 old instagram accounts, the functions works fine. I want to solve and know what is the problem. Thanks guys, i know you guys know the answer and the solution
