I've got two Asus H series boards here, an H87I-Plus and a H81M-C. Both are listed as compatible with i5 4590S, 4460S, and 4590 CPU's. Both are updated to the current BIOS. Both work flawlessly with an i3 4130 or a Celeron G1820. Both will not POST with any of the i5 CPU's I have here installed. All 3 i5 CPU's post and work fine in an HP Pegatron IPM87-MP motherboard just fine, that's also an H87 chipset so this isn't a chipset issue? It must be some BIOS problem with Asus?. So all the hardware works on both sides, CPU's and Motherboards. I reset the BIOS to defaults when swapping CPU's in BIOS and with the jumper as well. What in the world is going on here? Why will none of my Asus boards worth with these 3 i5 CPU's? Am I completely missing something? CPU list from Asus for both boards btw, just so you all don't think I'm stupid or crazy or both. I jumped through some hoops before with the H87I-Plus board with Asus support that ended with 'send it in and we'll charge you a lot of money' https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H81MC/HelpDesk_CPU/ https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/H87IPLUS/HelpDesk_CPU/ I'm seriously dumbfounded here, does anyone have this combo of board and CPU that's working? I really wanted to use my ITX board in my ITX case with this i5 CPU, now I'm concerned that ANY CPU that's not one of the two that works in it won't work in it for some reason. I've got an i3 4150 coming that I scored on a deal, I guess if that works I'm stuck with that.

Is it possible to use 1866 MHz memory in a H87 chipset motherboard? And if it works does it "downclock" the memory to 1600 MHz? Thanks in advance!

I currently have an i5-4670K (stock clock---3.4/3.8GHz, 4c/4t), GTX 1070 (Asus ROG Strix OC), on Intel's DH87RL motherboard with 16GB of DDR3 1600 (4x4GB). I run my games at 1440p on my 1440p,144Hz Dell S2417DG. I did a full reinstall of windows 10 last month. Thermals are relatively low, the 1070 in games hits ~60C, the CPU stays around 50C. EDIT: CPU usage in Unigine Valley is 50-60% and in PU: Battlegrounds is 85-100%. PCPartPicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/spaniel53/saved/KCv3CJ I recently suspected some bottle-necking when comparing my fps in certain games as compared with my friends (who have the same graphics card--GTX 1070). To test this, I ran Unigine Valley at a number of settings on my PC, had a friend do the same(He has Zotac's GTX 1070 AMP! Edition), then took my card over to his place and had him run them again on his PC with my card replacing his. His PC: i5-6600 (4c/4t, 3.5/3.9GHz), Zotac's GTX 1070 AMP! Edition, 16GB of DDR4 2133 (2x8GB), with the MSI B150I Mobo (mini-ITX). The test results listed are for Valley 1.0, DX11,1080fullscreen, ultra, 0xAA, Extreme Tess. (And yes, I did run my benchmark at 1080, not 1440. I unplugged my 1440 monitor and only had my 1080 monitor connected to run the benchmark.) The evidence seems to point to a CPU bottleneck, but my friend's CPU seems VERY close in performance to mine (4c/4t, 3.5/3.9GHz). Could it be a motherboard issue or even a RAM speed issue? Seems very unlikely as well... I would appreciate any insight into this strange situation. I'll be quick to respond to any questions. Thanks.

My PC, which I built two years ago or so, has the i5-4460, which is powerful enough for games and whatever I want to do, mostly, so I didn't want to spend some hundreds to side upgrade, so I bought this motherboard (H87N WiFi) and a cool mITX case. The problem comes when I wanted to boot, it won't even post. It goes bootloop. I have read that it needs a BIOS update, but from the seller I bought it from, he said that it was already updated. I also tried my friend's CPU, an i5-4570, which it is on this list http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/GA-H87N-WIFI(rev._1.0).html but got almost the same, a bootloop, but it took some more time. I tried with only the SSD, one RAM disk at each, nothing at all, but nothing. What should I do? How do I check if the motherboard isn't broken and won't just boot because of that? So far I have only had and/or tweaked settings on three or four motherboards. Alternatively, is there a really cheap compatible CPU like those old aliexpress xeons? If I ever manage to get this built, I would use my old motherboard and RAM for a seedbox/media center/local server.

Hello everyone! I will be building my first computer some time soon, and I will probably get a microatx case. My cpu will be the g3258. Now I know that I can overclock this cpu on the H chipsets, but due to future proofing I was thinking about getting a Z board, because the first thing I probably will upgrade it the cpu, but not sure if I want an unlocked. Should I get a Z97 board? And if no, should I just go with a h81 board or get a h97 board? Thanks

Hello everyone, I am going to build my self a new pc and now with the new Z97 boards out the Z87 boards are cheaper for my I5 4590 processor. The thing is what is the difference between Z87 and H87 and is it better for me to go with Z87 or H87. Thanks!

I have an i5-4460. Looking to upgrade to a 4690K in a couple of months. My question is, do I need to bump up my PSU (Corsair VS450W) and change my motherboard (H87M-ITX) because the ASRock website states that since BIOS 1.40 they support Non-Z OCing. About the PSU, I'm also looking to OC my MSI GTX 970 Gaming a bit. Thanks!

Hey forum, I was literally entering in my credit card number to buy the parts for my PC, when I got an email saying another CPU was on sale. I originally was going to go with a Xeon E3 1230v3, but then the email gave me a coupon code for the i7 4770k. The i7 is about 50 bucks more than the Xeon, but is the performance really worth it? Should I pay more for the 4770k and get the iGPU plus over clocking and all that jazz, or save the money and go with the Xeon. Need thoughts fast, looking to buy within the hour!!!

The new h87 and z87 itx motherboard come with 6 intel sata 6 ports onboard. This would be great for nas systems but what I'd like to know is would it be any better than the server sas raid card that I have? How great is the performance of raid 5 on a motherboard since it is software controlled. Also the raid card i canibalized an old server for is an HP Smart Array p400 8x SAS raid card with an LSI 1074 chip on it.

Hi everyone, I'm looking at building a mini-ITX gaming rig (see this post here) and will probably be going with an i5 4440 or 4570 with an H87 motherboard, at this stage probably an MSI H87I but I have a question about RAM. At the moment, I can get 2x4GB G.Skill Ares RAM in either 1600, 1866 or 2133mhz versions for the same price of AU$105. Although my embedded PCPartPicker build has the 1866 selected, I am thinking of going with either the 1600 or 2133 simply because they're a red-orange colour, rather than blue and I've changed my mind about what colours I want . However, I am a bit confused about how RAM speeds work on H87 motherboards. Firstly, I understand that all non-Z Intel motherboards have a maximum supported RAM speed of 1600mhz. However, they also often support XMP, which I don't understand because I thought that was only to allow the RAM to run at speeds higher than 1600mhz. Does this mean it's not "supported" but "can be done"? Or is there something else about XMP which it is used for in this scenario... Also, at the moment I am thinking of buying the 2133 anyway because then if I upgrade to a Z-motherboard in the future I can utilise the higher speeds (may as well - seeing as its the same price) however I know that this RAM also has higher CAS latency (11 for the 2133 vs 9 for the 1866 and 1600). I think though that if I have to run the RAM at 1600 due to using the H-chip, the CAS latency will also drop, but is this the case? Also, if it won't, how much of a difference would it make having the "actual" 1600 RAM running with CAS 9 vs having the 2133 RAM running at 1600 with CAS 11? For reference, here are the three RAM kits I'm talking about: 1600mhz: G.Skill Ares F3-1600C9D-8GAO 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866mhz: G.Skill Ares F3-1866C9D-8GAB 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 2133mhz: G.Skill Ares F3-2133C11D-8GAO 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 Hopefully you can answer my questions

Hi! Recently I planned out th parts for my first build... I was going to get a core i5 4670 (non- k) and was going to get a gigabyte H87- D3h, due to my fear and not wanting to overclock. Before all this i was planning on getting a z87 from gigabyte: G1 sniper z87. I was suggested that because i wasn't going to be overclocking and getting a NON-K processor the z87 chipset would mostly be useful, i Also learned that there are no problems when putting a normal non-K processor into a z87 board. The purpose of my build will be gaming, and h87 mobo s dont offer the best gaming features like a Gaming optimized NIC or an integrated high quality Sound Card. I would like all these features, without the overclocking bit. My budget will be 200$ (US). I recently saw the Asus Maximus VI Hero and it was EPIC. The Gigabyte G1 sniper z87 was a pretty good board as well. Pls help me in choosing Which of these Mobos to get, or feel free to suggest your own choices thnx, Blaze

Hi all, first post. I built my first rig recently. I went for Intel i5 4670k, Nvidia GTX 580, 8GB Crucial ballistix RAM, and quite naively, the msi H87-G43 motherboard. To be honest I'm happy with it, apart from not being able to overclock because I got the wrong chipset. However, I now want to overclock my CPU! Is there any way to OC it on the H87 chipset? Any help will be gratefully received Matt

Hi, im new here and I'm about to buy a new PC, i'm getting a Core i5 4570, 8GB HyperX Fury RAM and a MSI GTX 770 Gaming. I'm not sure if I should get the B85-G43 Gaming or the H87-G43. I was reading the MSI website and it says that MSI Video Cards run "better" on gaming motherboards but I'm not sure if that is true. Any ideas?

I know z87 and z97 boards support crossfire and sli, but I read a few conflicting things concerning whether or not h87 and h97 boards support crossfire and sli. So... is it possible to run multi-gpu configurations on h87 or h97 motherboards?

Hallo :) I have build a small HTPC/file server. MB: Asus H87I-Plus CPU: I5-4570T Ram: Kingston 2x4GB 1600MHz HDD: 3x3TB WD RED OS HDD: Seagate XT 320gb I have make a Raid 5 with the 3 WD Drive. The stribe size is 64KBs Read speed 280-290MBs Write speed 50-60MBs Is that normal or whats wrong with the write speed? I thing is really slow and i know i have to make a Calculation on all the data but i have hope on write speed of 150MBs The cpu only use 2-5% when i write data to the raid. What can i do to get a better write speed or do i really need cache for this? I dont like cache becurse then i need a UPS so i not lose any data. Is there some one that know about raid i can tell what i can try or is 60MBs write speed okey?
