  1. I want to be able to turn my pc on remotely so I can stream games to my phone when i am not at home. I have a wifi card installed in my pc and I cannot run an ethernet cable to my pc or wake on lan. I have an amd gpu so I cannot use moonlight. Is there a way I can turn my pc on with my phone from anywhere? Any suggestions?
  2. Hey. This might be the wrong subforum, if so, sorry in advance, but I wasn't sure where to fit this. Apologies in advance for grammar or spelling errors as well, english is not my first language. My current computer is nearing its well derserved end. Some of the GPU ports stopped working, I can only use half of the Mainboard USB I/O anymore and performance in new games is getting worse and worse. Its time for a new PC - I really want to experience raytracing and the other good stuff - but what about the OS. I used Fedora Linux for roughly a year, before switching back to Windows 10 a few months ago. Fedora with Gnome just felt so much more intuitive, I loved working with all of the Gnome Shortcuts, the look and feel and so on. The downsides tho - some of the Software I need just isn't available, some games can not be emulated using Wine due to bad AC implementations and Nvidia Driver "Support" brought me to the edge of insanity. For this reason I reverted to Windows 10 - for now. Now, new pc wanted - new concepts - sanity check needed. Basically, thats what I want to do: Get the PC, throw Proxmox on it. Spin up a Nobara VM and a Windows 11 VM. Assign the IGP/Motherboard Display Output to the Nobara VM, assign the dedicated GPU to the Windows 11 VM. Only configure Proxmox from Webui from now on. Setup Passtrough for all other USB and PCI-E Devices (Streamdeck, Soundcard, Scarlett Solo 3) to the Nobara VM. Use looking glass to stream games/apps from the Windows machine to the Nobara Machine (I know of Moonlight/Sunshine but Sunshine as of now does not work with Valorant.. ) I'd wake the Win-VM over WOL or whatever Proxmox might offer, use a custom client on it for starting specific apps so I dont have to use it as a full vm. Like a scuffed terminal server of sorts. Questions / sanity checks: Any huge flaws I'm missing? This should work in theory - right? From what I've read this may or may not add latency up to 20ms and cost me roughly 10% to 15% performance max., based on several factors. Any other mayor drawbacks im missing? Has anyone ever used something alike? How well does it work? Thanks in advance! First Edit: Proxmox is still a variable, I am also looking into other Hypervisors, Unraid and so on.
  3. There is not much we can tell just now, but there is a Global Incident with GFN: Users have issues accessing and launching games. Like, seriously - all games .... Does anybody knows what seems to be a problem, yet? https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/gfn-beta-updates/20/337154/geforce-now-error-code-0xc0f52104-there-was-a-pro/?topicPage=1%2F https://status.geforcenow.com/ nVidia seems to be aware of the problem but there is no official statment about whats causing those issues, rather vague acknowledgement only.
  4. Hello there! I am currently in possession of a somewhat old Hackintosh (i5 4400, 16GB DDR3, RX 550, 4,5 TB) and I was thinking about making a Linux based game streaming platform. Here's the story: I'm an audio engineer and for several reasons I need Mac OS as my daily driver and I also do a lot of gaming on my machine, but as we all know: MacOS isn't really intended for that purpose, and the only options that I have are: running games through Crossover (some of them work and the rest sucks) or use Parallels Desktop and boot a Windows VM (If you think an RX 550 isn't performant you should see it try to lift a game on a Windows VM, it won't even open heavy games that I was able to run in the past using Windows [Hitman 2 being one of them]). Now, I know what you're thinking: "I'm struggling to see your point and also, what the hell does any of that previos junk has to do with making your own Game Streaming Platform? By the way, Why would you want Linux? Just get Parsec, a Windows key and off you go." The thing is: I'm about to get an old intel Mac mini in the upcoming future, so having the Hackintosh won't make sense, and while Windows and Parsec is a good combo; I've been using Linux and MacOS for about 2 years and It's a combination that I love (besides that I'm really in favor of the Open-Source and Free Software philosophy) And while I'm aware that Linux isn't for everyone and it's not at the point where it can replace Windows in gaming: I feel like stop using Linux and switching back to Windows won't help me to support the aforementioned philosophy. It's more about moral (I'm speaking only for myself and I don't consider any OS inferior or superior nor their users [talking to you Linux elitists]). Like I said before: I'm an audio engineer ( and guess what: we're not even real engineers) not a developer nor a software engineer (or computer professional in any sort of the matter for that case) but I'm more of an enthusiast. I've been reading about SSH and remote management, and I feel that the only thing I would need (If I'm not mistaken) is graphics acceleration and low-latency input/video streaming on the Remote Desktop client and host. Maybe it is because this idea is dumb or extremely difficult to take on. The fact that Parsec on Linux doesn't support hosting isn't very encouraging either, but I know Stadia uses Linux and so does GeForce Now (If I'm not mistaken), so is it possible for a single user sitting in their bedroom with sparing computers can make possible or is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide no escape from reality. JK, in all seriousness tho, can you reading this provide help or guidance on the matter to make this possible? If you can: leave a comment and let us know how! and if you can't: Thanks for taking the time to read this wether you're interested or not, you're great! PS: I apologise for any typo or grammatical error as English is not my mother language.
  5. Hi, right 1st time poster and I have been trying to work something out about a possible setup for my flat and I was looking for some advice on ways to achieve it. I have my gaming pc setup in my livingroom on a desk and use a 25 meter active (I think that is what it was it has a repeater in it correct me if I am wrong) HDMI 2.0 cable that I have run through trunking up my wall and across my ceiling and down the wall to the other side of my living room to my TV I do this so I can use my gaming pc with my TV as my main media setup and if I want to play games in a more relaxed matter while sitting on my couch instead of at my desk, this works perfectly. So I was thinking of trying to find the correct setup to try and do the same thing so I can have a TV in my room (to use as another monitor so if I want I can have the computer's output displayed on the TV instead of any of the displays I use in the livingroom). So I was looking into longer HDMI 2.0 cables (probably longer than 25 meters as I bought 25 meters for the living room setup and only had a few meters in length left after running in trunking up the wall from my desk, then across the ceiling and back down to where my TV unit is and as I want to have this new cable run much further and the be trunked in so I don't have a bare cable running along my hallway into my bedroom). So here's the problem I was looking for an answer to I think I can use a 50 meter fibre optic HDMI wire to run into my TV in the bedroom for display output , but as my gaming pc would be very far away I would need a solution to some how get a USB cable to run from the USB 3.0 ports on my gaming pc in the living room to my bedroom. so I could plug a wireless keyboard and mouse or xbox one wireless controller into it so I could use them while in my bedroom. I have looked online and found some options like active usb cables (correct me if I am wrong) but these seem to be of shorter length than I need. The only other option I saw to solve this is fibre optic USB cable (50 meters) but these are extremely expensive (£340). 1st thing would these work? 2nd thing do u think there would be an easier way to achieve the setup? I don't want to have to adjust my setup I already have in the livingroom (as in I don't want have to move my gaming pc as I have stuck the cable trunking to the walls and ceil with really strong adhesive and don't want to damage any of my walls or ceiling removing these, plus I like the setup I have in the living room). As you can work out this setup of fibre optic USB and the long HDMI cable plus the price of buying a 4k TV (nothing too fancy £400 range would do me fine) would cost like £800. So is it worth it or is there a better way to achieve my desired setup? I have looked into Nividia shield tv but don't really want to go for game streaming if I have another option as I have tried it (game streaming and thought I noticed the lag even when using ethernet). My apologies for the long post but any advice would be great as some of the tech I mentioned I have only ever seen on Linus Tech Tips videos and have never used tried before. Also if it helps I own my flat so I could possibly have holes drilled I'm my livingroom wall to shorten the amount of cable I need. Anyway thanks for your time. TLDR - need long HDMI cable to run from livingroom pc to bedroom to connect livingroom pc to bedroom tv so can use pc in room. Need advice for long USB wire to connect pc peripherals to living room pc. Cables will need to be trunked and are going quite a distance in so need longer lengths maybe 50 meters of each. Saw fibre optic cables for HDMI and another for USB but never used them before and don't know if they would work. Other option game streaming but not sure if nvidia shield tv is right for me.
  6. Recently I just watched Linus' video regarding gaming streaming services. Most of them seemed pretty horrible to me due to their horrendous selection of titles. However, he did mention a a Shadow service at the end of the video. After doing some research, I found out that this service allowed you to rent a full pc instead of just a game library. This was awesome to me, but I am reluctant to actually try this because they are going bankrupt. If you guys think that it is a bad idea to even try Shadow, then which other services would be worth trying out? And If you're wondering, I do have a PC for myself, but I want to play with a friend who doesn't
  7. Summary The official beta for xCloud on iOS and PC begins tomorrow with select Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members being able top test the Xbox Cloud Gaming limited beta. Quotes My thoughts This is a great piece of news for those of you with an iOS device that can't wait for xcloud as the beta wasn't predicted to start for another 6 months. With Linus's latest video about gpus being in limited sotck and game streaming being an option for waiting this is great news as many of us a week ago were messing around with the hidden beta when the codes got retracted and now it looks like we can go at it again if the codes end up being a universal thing or not one time use. Sources https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2021/04/19/xbox-cloud-gaming-windows-pc-and-apple-limited-beta/
  8. I recently bought an Nvidia shield pro and I want to stream my steam games to it through the steam link app. The wireless networking isn't as fast as I would like so I'm considering buying a switch and connecting the PC and the shield to the same unmanaged switch. From what I know about networking the network traffic should flow directly between the two devices instead of going through the router. Am I correct?
  9. Hey there fellow Gamers ! We have to do another Group Project in school and this time around our head Topic is Interweaving. It took my partner and I some time to figure out a suitable topic but we settled on "Online Gaming" in the end. Since everything is interconnected and stuff. Once again I created the Survey with help from my good friend @AluminiumTech, he's really good at coming up with great questions and answers. The Survey is in German and English again so that as many people as possible can fill it out. The Data will be used in the forms of diagrams and presented in both a Document and a Power Point presentation to my Teacher and an Expert. You don't have to provide your E-Mail of course as always. This will take some time to fill out so please take your time and read the questions and answers carefully. If you find any typos or experience bugs then let me know by replying to this Thread. Feel free to share this Survey with your Gamer friends or even Boomer Parents who hate Videogames as there is a section with questions for the people who hate our hobby. So here it is: https://forms.gle/fduMtMet6b64q3736 Thank you very much for your time and participation !
  10. How do people stream games in HDR to friends? When I say "stream", think Zoom screenshare, not Twitch. I use Discord, and it only streams in SDR. When playing HDR games, everything is blown-out because Discord doesn't do any tone mapping. This has got to be a super common problem now that many people have HDR-capable displays (even HDR400 does something). Windows 11 will automatically enable HDR for supported displays by default, so this issue will only get worse over time. What solution do you use? Is there another video streaming client available? Is there anything I can use to tonemap native HDR game footage prior to streaming? Windows Auto HDR + OBS Preview Window I've been looking at solutions, and the only one I've come up with is to disable native HDR in the game and use Windows 11's Auto HDR feature w/ OBS's preview window. Doing that allows you to play in HDR while someone watching you only sees SDR. Pretty handy, but there are quite a few quirks. OBS issues OBS does not transfer game audio like Discord. This is the biggest issue with this method. You have to put the preview window fullscreen to get the full res, and it's going to be choppier than native. It's also gonna need to be on a second monitor and can only get as large as that monitor's resolution. You can put the preview in a window and minimize it, but it needs to be sized properly which will never be the same as native res. Windows Auto HDR things to know Auto HDR requires you enable HDR prior to opening the game (toggle HDR with WIN+ALT+B). Normally, Windows 11 will automatically switch Windows into HDR mode when playing a fullscreen HDR game, so you no longer have to do it manually like in Windows 10. Auto HDR isn't supported in every game. I'm not sure if Auto HDR will work in all games that have native HDR implementations. Auto HDR worked fine in Hitman 3, the game I'm testing. Auto HDR runs in your SDR space, so it might be at 8-bit color if you haven't configured SDR for 10-bit. I manually configure this in the nVIDIA Control Panel, but it might do it automatically; who knows. Best to set it yourself to be sure. Native HDR should always look better than Auto HDR because the game can do a lot more to make the native HDR presentation look good whereas Auto HDR can only use whatever's available in SDR land (typically only gamma and brightness). If you use SpecialK to add HDR where Auto HDR isn't supported, you run into the same streaming issues as native HDR as it hooks into the game itself. Auto HDR runs one step before the final output for your display (my assumption), so Windows is technically only running the SDR game. This is why streaming works. Your monitor needs drivers for Windows, or it will default to 1499 nits. That results in ridiculous amounts of clipping and even HDR for YouTube videos will look oversaturated and blown-out. On my LG C1 OLED, I had to use Custom Resolution Utility (CRU) to set the peak brightness the HDMI EDID info. After doing so, all HDR in Windows looks amazing, even YouTube. Highly recommend you configure that regardless of Auto HDR. The SDR brightness slider supposedly affects the resulting Auto HDR peak brightness. If you set it to the lowest value, it should result in a correct Auto HDR. I haven't verified this myself because it's difficult to compare when a game's native HDR has its own calibration setting that might not be accurate to the resulting output. For me, I leave this where I have it since it's close enough to 0, and I don't mind clipping if it's only on the brightest lights. That's all about Auto HDR, but what about other folks? What are you using? I'm really curious.
  11. Hi All, So, as someone with neither time nor money to dedicate to a proper gaming rig I was thinking of maybe just buying the new Mac Mini and use Nvidia Geforce Now game streaming. Most of the games i play are supported on that platform and thats what I use currently on my 8 yr old MSI prebuilt desktop. There are not alot of videos or discussions that I could find talking about the geforce experience on a mac. At $500, I think it would be an absolute steal. The other thing I also thought about was maybe going the route of a barebone NUC. Any thoughts, suggestions or possibly even an LTT Video about this would be awesome. Thanks.
  12. So I have 2 PCs (more info in my signature) and basically Instead of having to manually switch inputs (KVM/Monitor) I was wondering if there was a way to stream the desktop's output to the laptop, I've tried connecting them directly together over ethernet with Steam in home streaming but it will not go above 60fps (or maybe 72fps, either way the game normally runs at over 140 fps but when streaming it it's capped at 72 (probably V-Sync)). Parsec for some reason is completely useless (It normally works fine but setting it 144hz just kills it, there is several seconds of latency and compression artifacts everywhere. Any Ideas?
  13. After finding out about Nvidia's New Shield TV during CES 2017 I was excited about the prospect of finely entering the world of in-home game streaming. But realising my network setup may not be up to par my excitement lessened somewhat. The problem is that I can’t run an Ethernet line straight to the Shield TV and the only two options I can think of are Ethernet over powerline or Ethernet over phoneline. Another problem is that I live in an Australian house that likely has shoddy wiring so I am a bit concerned about the effect that it may have on latency. My question is like the title suggests. But is mostly for asking if Ethernet over phoneline would be a good option. As I have already read posts about how bad wiring can effect latency when using Ethernet over powerline but can’t seem to find anything about the phoneline.
  14. Just for fun, I'm curious if the 1950X threadripper CPU is capable of pure 8k x264 recording via OBS. Even if it's at a movie frame rate of 24fps, I wonder if it's possible without stuttering or jittering. FYI...I mean this as in the 1950X is a pure streaming box only, so all processing cores could be dedicated 100% to the game stream and not the game engine itself.
  15. I have a 6900k with a Titan xp I want to play in my living but don't want to drag (my very big rig) back and forward I heard you can make a cheap pc and streaming device for your TV with little to no lag (network depending). Set recommendations direction? Please help
  16. Hi everyone, I am new to Linus Tech Tip and I am wondering if anyone can help me. I am in the market to buy a new graphic card a currently have a Sapphire R9 280 (3GB) graphics card and I am in the market to upgrade GPU. One of the cards that I have been that is with in my budget is the ASUS RX480 (4GB) graphic card from a local tech company. The specs of the card look good and the power issue seem to have been sorted out. However the main reason behind this post is that I am very much into streaming and making game play videos of all different types of PC games. So I am wondering if anyone on here that has experience with this card using it for game streaming and recording? - DamoDGC
  17. I have tricked out my home office battlestation with all of the bells and whistles so I can play almost any game at all but the highest levels. I love my battlestation. Yet I spend a great deal of time with my family in the living room away from my office and away from my desktop. I would like to be able to play some games while in the living room, but I don't want to give up on the quality of the game play. Should I buy a gaming laptop or buy a slim laptop and stream from the custom PC in my office? If you say BUY, what gaming laptop would you recommend? If you say STREAM, what slim laptop would you recommend AND how would you recommend I stream to this laptop? Guidelines for my system selection 17 inch screen- I'm old, so I need a 17 inch screen to be able to see what I am doing. Ryzen- I've been on Team Red for almost 20 years, so Ryzen is a must. $1000 to $1500- I'd like to be around $1,000 (US), could go to $1500 with little convincing, and could even go north of $1500 if it really wiggled. Prefer 1660 Green team or 570 Red Team (either could work) 16GB+ of Ram (I can plug in a stick of ram without loosing a finger) Thanks everyone!
  18. Hello everyone. I have a Acer Predator Helios 300 specs : i7 7700k - GTX 1050ti - 16 GB DDR4 RAM I want to use my laptop to stream games using OBS I tried recording fortnite but the quality is really bad and laggy and FPS is fluctuating between 40-20 Any Suggestions?
  19. Is there a somewhat strait forward method of streaming my at home PC from basically anywhere in the world with good internet, for things like media, productivity, and most importantly gaming? Personally I do NOT own very powerful hardware, But if I DID (Say 2080TI + 3900x or something) would there be a method of having near perfect playback over the internet? Further more, would there be a simple way to avoid most of the obvious issues (say latency) by having it stream over a single network like my house? Mostly i want to know if there is a program that i could just download for this purpose but will work better then TeamViewer for example AKA: Less latency, and support for controllers.
  20. Can anyone help me setup nVidia moonlight locally? So i have my own gaming pc and i want to set it up so i can use it as like a gaming machine on my other laptop, but all locally. Kind of like renting out a cloud gaming pc but here im not renting any pc, just using mine, and its all over my local network so my internet speed cant mess up any latency issues. Yep. Thanks in advance!
  21. I recently bought an Elgato HD60 S. I have had a couple of problems since unboxing. The first problem doesn't really matter to ME, however, it is something to note before buying. Some Notes: Elgato software is the only one that works on my system so I use that. The second problem I really care about and I want to fix before my 5hour twitch stream on in 2 days 1. If I connect my Xbox/PC I have to close the software, unplug the USB cable, Unplug HDMI input on the card, reopen the software, plug in the USB then wait for the software to recognise there is NO SIGNAL and THEN plug in the HDMI input cable. 2. After FINALLY connecting the Xbox/PC to the card and getting it to work, rather than the instant gameplay preview (STRONGLY advertised btw, ) being 1-3 frames delayed, it was delayed by 2 Whole seconds???. The worst thing was this delay showed up in the recording and twitch stream.
  22. As the title says, I'm wanting to be able to stream games from my desktop to my laptop. Just using Steam's streaming feature is out of the question since some of the games I want to play aren't on Steam, and I don't want to install Steam on the laptop either. I've tried using Parsec already, and I get terrible lag. However, I don't think it's an issue with my internet speeds and here's why: I'm able to use the AMD link app with my phone no problem. Games play super smooth with almost no noticeable input lag. Unfortunately for whatever reason AMD doesn't have the AMD link available for Windows so I can't use that on my laptop. Are there any settings I could change in Parsec that would make it run better? Or is there another app I could use instead that would offer better performance? I'd also prefer the app have controller support since I play a lot of platformers and racing games which are a nightmare to play with a keyboard/mouse. Thanks for any advice that can be provided.
  23. Summary Jet another cloud gaming service is popping up. The german internet provider "Telekom" starts it's own cloud service named MagentaGaming. Like most other services it will be available on Android, Windows and macOS. Catalog of includes Games: https://magentagaming.com/de/spiele/ Quotes Source: https://www.telekom.com/en/media/media-information/archive/magentagaming-telekom-launches-its-own-cloud-gaming-platform-606634 Source: https://www.heise.de/news/Cloud-Spieledienst-MagentaGaming-der-Telekom-startet-nach-laengerer-Beta-Phase-4878424.html My thoughts So yet another cloud gaming service? We will see how that works out. I don't think the services from the even larger players haven't taken of that good yet, but here we are with a german company trying to be one of the first. The very limited game selecting could become a problem for them but again we will see. I find it is quite interesting, that Telekom as an internet provider is starting it, offering zero-rating for mobile. This could be a great advantage for them to have control over the network and spare the users their precious data volume. BUT this might not be interesting for everyone, as it seams to launch in Germany only. (The sources do not mention it, but as it is the "Deutsche Telekom" starting it, it is highly likly) Sources https://www.telekom.com/en/media/media-information/archive/magentagaming-telekom-launches-its-own-cloud-gaming-platform-606634 https://www.heise.de/news/Cloud-Spieledienst-MagentaGaming-der-Telekom-startet-nach-laengerer-Beta-Phase-4878424.html https://magentagaming.com/de/spiele/

Hi, I'm new here. I'm a 72 year old geek and just purchased an Alienware Aurora R10 which will be delivered in a month. Now I'd like to play my PC video games on my LG C8 TV. I know I can just plug the thing into my Yamaha 3080 but I also do digital art, photoshop work and video editing using my Wacom Cintiq. Now it looks like I will need to hook up the R10 to the Cintiq but then will I be able to stream my PC games to my C8? The TV is probably 10 feet from where the computer will be. Is something like a Nvidia Shield what I will need? Thanks for any help.
  25. Summary Last week, a patent from Apple talking about a game streaming service was published in Europe. It was first filed in February. The patent talks about a server that stores, executes, and renders games. The result is streamed to the device. Controls are transmitted from the device to the server. The patent talks alot about using 5G to have a better gaming experience. In fact, the patent is even called "Enabling Interactive Service for Cloud Rendering Gaming in 5G Systems". This will be a subscription service that Apple offers and may be part of their upcoming (rumored) Apple One bundle which will include a number of their subscription services. Quotes My thoughts Now it makes sense why Apple wouldn't let other game streaming services on ios. Talk about anti-competition. I have a feeling that this launch will be followed by a few more anti-competition investigations. This also basically confirms that 5g is coming to the new phones (not that it was really much of a question anyways). I have no idea what games they would stream though because all ios/apple games should easily run on the new A14 chip. Any ideas? Sources Patently Apple digitaltrends
